The utter joy of 'finishing' a household item...

I'm not a scrooge, lol! But I totally enjoy using up 'stuff'. Today was a hat trick: filled the washing up liquid bottle with hot water and used it to do the dishes (new bottle in the cupboard), snipped the top of my moisturiser (enough in the tube for a few more days!), took the crusts left from the loaf of bread to dunk in my soup at work. Anyone else get a thrill out of an empty container?

Oooh can I join you lovely people. I LOVE finishing something off. In contrast dh struggles with that concept and willleave the teeniest tiniest bit in the bottom because he can't bare parting with things.

I even love when I announce that I am doing it to the whole kitchen. The fridge, the freezer, the food cupboard. Clear out all the odds and sods that have accumulated and start again.
Makes for some odd food combinations but its so satisfying.

Bliss.

Ooh yes. This week I have finished a bottle of shampoo, a box of dishwasher tablets, a tube of tomato puree and a jar of jam. Each felt like a small achievement. Plus the older I get the more I hate clutter, so I love seeing the extra cupboard/fridge space appear.

Unfortunately, my DH loves to open new things and also seems to live in fear of ever running out of anything. He also loves trying new brands etc so if he had his way we would have a bathroom and kitchen full of slightly different variations of the same products, all about 3/4 full. During Covid his approach won, as we didn't want to be shopping for one or 2 items when something ran out.

Thank you all for your comments and stories! I've enjoyed them all :-) DC are still young, I'm aiming to train them to not have 25 products on the go at the one time!

This is just how I live my life.... I cannot help it . I hate waste. My most satisfying moment was baking cheese and potato pie and corned beef and potato pie (homemade pastry) for pennies. 3 old potatoes, 1 onion, half block of cheddar and tin of corned beef. The two pies did lunches all week.

Dh and I are quite competitive about getting the last possible teeny amount of the toothpaste out of a tube. To the point of struggling some nights for a few minutes to get enough to brush our teeth. It's not like we are short of money Grin I am frugal about this sort of thing though.
