How do so many female celebs in their late 40s and early 50s look so fab?

I am thinking Appleton sisters , Melanie Sykes , Victoria B, Liz Hurley , Amanda Holden ..

How at a time when they must be peri or menopausal do they look so young and slim?

I'm just curious about knees. Are they one of the only parts of the human body that can't be tweaked to look young, I wonder?

I don't want my knees doing, BTW. Well, maybe new joints.

I'm 47 and regularly get mistaken for early 30's . I don't drink , eat meat or smoke . I use face cream every night and I have an hourglass figure . All of these things contribute to looking younger,
I expect they get alot if little things done here and there though

@Antonia2021 .. haha , is that sarcasm ? Honestly I can see the age in my face because I've lived with it so long and it obviously has aged but I don't really have any wrinkles and I also have curly hair which makes people think you are younger for some reason ..
I actually think being slim and curvy but not overly thin makes you appear younger .
I'm sure most celebs have stuff done , just subtly so we don't know or notice .

Itsnotdeep · 16/11/2021 20:27

Well they're very slim, attractive and have brilliant hair. But they don't look like they do on the screen irl! I have seen a couple of the people mentioned on this thread irl, with less makeup and in casual clothes, and they have the same wrinkles as the rest of us. But they are tiny.

Onlinedilema · 16/11/2021 20:36

They have plastic surgery and lots of it.
Spend lots of time and money working on their appearance.
They have people who do the grunt work for them so they can spend their time exercising/meditating/having their hair done/nails done/facials etc etc etc.

Thedogisdrivingmemad · 16/11/2021 20:39

I have been in TV studios and modern TV cameras/ lighting are incredibly flattering. They take five or ten years off you.
Of course these people work out and make a lot of effort and some get work done but what you see on screen - well the camera does lie, or at least flatter, these days.

LivesinLondon2000 · 16/11/2021 20:51

As someone earlier in the thread said, it’s not uncommon for celebrities to have a first facelift in their early 40s. They can then truthfully claim they don’t do botox/fillers etc.
Very common amongst Hollywood actresses in particular apparently

HaroldSteptoesHorse · 16/11/2021 21:15

Make up artists, hair dressers, wardrobe advisors. And I’m done cases good genes

foxgoosefinch · 16/11/2021 21:29

To be honest when I do a zoom I can put a lamp right in my face and turn a filter on and bam I look ten years younger. Just think what television makeup and lighting does.

@Fluffycloudland77

I still get asked for id when buying alcohol or painkillers at 44.

Women have it stacked against us, we have 20% less collagen than men and thinner skins. If you don’t put a lot of effort in you can age really badly. Then the menopause comes along to take 30% of your collagen off you.

I still get id’d for those things too and I’m a 49 something who looks her age. It’s often much more to do with store policy rather than the perceived age of the customer.
BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 16/11/2021 21:33

*40 something

tigerpants800 · 16/11/2021 21:41

@Nevermindthefurball

I agree tigerpants. I am so appreciative of the level of fitness I have at my age, the rest seems irrelevant.

I feel there is weaker solidarity between older and younger women than with men because attractiveness is such a highly rated aspect of being female that seeing that wane with age is offputting to younger women. In contrast ageing men aren’t losing so much of a central part of how they are valued and therefore their status is much less reduced.

Yeah something isn't right. Isn't it that centuries of misogyny have been internalised into women- so we judge each-other with misogynistic eyes Errr, sure I read that somewhere
tigerpants800 · 16/11/2021 21:42

@Yusanaim

Some un botoxed people do/did get character parts - Diana Rigg, Brian Cox, but I guess they also need characterful faces. Not every old person has that.

I wondered that when I was watching succession recently. Is there a drama where a woman of similar age to Brian Cox leads and is worshipped as much?

I wonder if building your quad muscles would help knees to stay in better shape?
Maskless · 16/11/2021 21:48

Because they are obsessed with their looks and therefore put huge amounts of money, time and effort into the way they look.
