How do so many female celebs in their late 40s and early 50s look so fab?

I am thinking Appleton sisters , Melanie Sykes , Victoria B, Liz Hurley , Amanda Holden ..

How at a time when they must be peri or menopausal do they look so young and slim?

Part of it will be the time and money to afford to prioritise health, wellbeing and any preventative procedures they choose

I know a lot of women who are menopausal and still look good so don't think we're doomed unless we have wealth. The women I know who have aged well and look good tend to eat well, don't drink too much caffeine and alcohol, spend time outside, regularly exercise, looked after their skin/health, and haven't tried to look young. They've got a style that they're comfortably in, don't spend a fortune on beauty treatments and embrace the fact they're getting older. I often think that it's their confidence combined with looking after themselves that means they look good.

Lanique · 14/11/2021 20:35

How do they look good?

Hmm, let's see. From the top down:

Hair extensions. Not necessarily big barbie extensions, just subtle ones to add bulk. Then regular maintenance, cuts and highlights etc.

Botox to forehead and eyes. Maybe eye lift surgery too.

Filler to under eyes, cheeks, lips, chin and jawline.

Nose job.

Full set of crowns / veneers / composite bonds or a small set plus teeth whitening

Jawline sculpting / thread lift

Breast augmentation or lift

Then they'll work out and and eat very little and as a last resort get a tummy tuck, liposuction on tummy and or thighs.

Added to this, regular tanning, derma rolling, facials, massages, pedicures, manicures and waxing.

All of the above work can be done subtly. I would imagine that EVERY woman in the public eye has had most of these treatments done to a greater or lesser extent. Some will be so subtle that you think she's natural but by late forties it's pretty hard not to go without all this and still look as good as they do in bright daylight.

It's not surprising really. I defy any woman with money and time and whose career relies on a youthful appearance NOT to dabble in cosmetic surgery and procedures. They face a huge amount of pressure in a male-dominated industry.

TheMoth · 14/11/2021 20:36

They're not knackered from working stressful jobs for 30 years, whilst spending almost a third of them not sleeping, thanks to small children.

They don't work 50 or so hour weeks in work, then do house jobs/kid stuff at weekends, before starting all over again.

But at some point, all that face work will mean their faces all pretty much look the same.

@Campervan69

missatkins cheers you look fabulous dahling. I'm a year older than you and can still scrub up well. As can most of my friends tbh.
Well thank you very much. Age is just a number as far as I'm concerned 🥂
@Antonia2021
Of course I'm not! And I actually think Amanda Holden has had way too much work done and certainly isn't a look I'm after.

I wasn't suggesting I look as good as a stunning celeb but disagreeing that once a woman hits menopause money is her only hope!

I don't want to share my face on here but I know I look good.
Believe me after spending most of my 20s trying to get past the awful bullying I suffered because of how I looked at school - it feels great to love how I look now and for others to be so complimentary about me!
I hear you! I've got some very attractive friends in their 50s. It's a combo of natural good looks, knowing how to dress well (whatever their style), and good hairstyle. They all drink, none have had 'work' done, they just look fab 😍

TheMoth · 14/11/2021 20:39

I just look tired. So tired. The bags under my eyes won't ever go, regardless of concealer. I am slim,
and run outdoors in all weathers, but I like a drink. My gran's face looked like a woodcut by the time she was 60, but she smoked and had had a hard life. If I have her genes, I'm screwed.

MsThinksAlot · 14/11/2021 20:40

@Anordinarymum

They call it maintenance. Whatever they need to do in order to stay 'relevant' is part of their life.

I think it is a shame when the plastic surgery goes too far, and wonder why nobody ( family etc)tells them?

Looking at Simon Cowell on the Pride of Britain awards the other night was shocking. I mean he did look OK until he went down the plastic route.

I agree. They all end up looking the same too - a bit feline-like - especially when they don't stop. Must be addictive or something. Such a shame.
Charley50 · 14/11/2021 20:40

@Whyamistilltired

It seems so obvious to me, they are far more beautiful to begin with. They are able to maintain that aura as they grow older, is that not really obvious?
^^ this!
megletthesecond · 14/11/2021 20:41

Money for cosmetic treatments and self care.
I watched yesterday. See also Lorry Hill videos for cosmetic surgery and Jessica Kobeissi for how they filter the hell out of their photos.

MsTSwift · 14/11/2021 20:43

The one that gets me is Kate Beckinsale. I mean how?! She is my age I try to keep trim etc but my god she looks 22. I have never seen any woman I know our age look like that. It’s like she’s another species!

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 14/11/2021 20:44

missatkins

You look sensational. I didn’t even look that good in my teens.

I sadly got the face and body I deserved. 🥴

Do you think men in their 50s look unattractive if they look older than they did in their 20s?

I’ve always loved an older man tbh

Am intrigued about HRT being mentioned as something that helped make women look younger. I didn’t know it did that.

Ha ha ha ha ha.. I actually looked awful during my teens and was bullied relentlessly at school. I'm hoping I'm like a fine wine and getting better as I get older, 😀
SheldonesqueTheBstard · 14/11/2021 20:51

missatkins

Well lass, I wish you an upcoming school reunion so that you can shine in front of those who did you wrong. ✨

TheMarzipanDildo · 14/11/2021 20:53

“Their jobs aren’t especially challenging or stressful.”

I have a feeling I would find being a TV presenter or actor incredibly stressful and challenging! Particularly in the modern age with social media to slag me off if I slipped up.

Oblomov21 · 14/11/2021 20:53

I'm assuming they've all had Botox etc.

Universeandeverything · 14/11/2021 20:55

They’ve all had their teeth done and I think that makes a massive difference. Tess Daly and Holly Willoughby looked lovely when young but look even better now their teeth are perfect.

Ordinary people like me can’t get cosmetic dentistry as it costs tens of thousands.

boobot1 · 14/11/2021 20:56

@foxgoosefinch

Lots of constant low level work, eg micro needling, lift facials, cavitation, etc as well as minor facelifts, liposculpture etc. Personal trainers and very strict low carbing.
Or they're genetically blessed, quite a few of them in my family.
HelloDulling · 14/11/2021 20:58

Hair extensions and regular hair appointments.
Personal trainer several times a week, and a strict diet.
Fillers, Botox, nips and tucks
Cosmetic dentistry
Professional make-up

DuesToTheDirt · 14/11/2021 20:58

Exactly. Aside from money + the importance of looking good for them (I won't lose my job if I look like crap!), they had a head start on most of the rest of us. Look at Liz Taylor. More gorgeous throughout her life than I ever was in my prime.

Antonia2021 · 14/11/2021 20:59

@boobot1 i think that’s closest to the truth rbh

Stunning to begin with , great bone structure combined with the means to access treatments / procedure to enhance

OP posts:
brittleheadgirl · 14/11/2021 21:01

@boobot1
Definitely genetics. I'm blessed with the family 'strong bone structure' It's almost like scaffolding for my face as I age!

Interesting that others have mentioned bullying. My friend has a theory that the popular, beautiful crowd at school, basically peak in their teens.
The girls that bullied me honestly look so much older than me.
I was a skinny child, endlessly bullied for being 'foreign' (yes really) yet both of these things have enhanced my looks as an adult.
