How do so many female celebs in their late 40s and early 50s look so fab?

I am thinking Appleton sisters , Melanie Sykes , Victoria B, Liz Hurley , Amanda Holden ..

How at a time when they must be peri or menopausal do they look so young and slim?

As pp have said imagine living like that, watching every single thing you eat, working out for hours each day, having to spend ages getting all sorts of treatments and injections and surgery. It must be exhausting and I actually feel sorry for those who feel they need to do this in order to continue to get work. Can't be fun can it.

BigFatLiar · 15/11/2021 15:25

I think a lot of it is to do with lifestyles.

I look at photos of my parents at my age and think they look older. We have photos of my granny at 40 and she looks so much older. Peoples lives are relatively easier and don't have the physical strain they used to that ages the body.

@toecoffin

I expanded in my previous post
I prefer to allow the women in my life to be themselves and certainly would never be as scathing as you about the choices they make.

I am very particular about how I look, that works for me, I dye my hair, wear make up everyday and absolutely adore getting dressed up.
I have close friends who are embracing the grey, barely look in the mirror and definitely aren't particularly interested in clothes or make up.

None of us judge one another because we, as women, celebrate and champion one another and would never criticise or be offended by each other's personal choices.
We love, support and nurture one another, it's wonderful.

You sound preachy, judgemental and extremely patronising.

Ozanj · 15/11/2021 15:38

I’ve seen one of the celebs mentioned here in a real life setting. Trust me she looks her age: what we see on screen is her at her top notch best.

Antonia2021 · 15/11/2021 16:15

@toecoffin I do kickboxing but also wear make-up, where does that leave me then ?

How you look is irrelevant to me!
You're not really getting this are you? Hmm

Antonia2021 · 15/11/2021 16:29

@brittleheadgirl I wasn’t replying to you . I’m not bothered about how you or your friends dress tbh, I am interested in the ant-ageing techniques used by glam youthful women in the public eye !

It's generally beautiful people that get famous in the first place. Then they have money and work done.

toecoffin · 15/11/2021 16:52

No where did I say wearing makeup or looking your best was wrong. I wear make up.

You have misinterpreted my words

I was criticising the dissection of older celebrities and the obsession with not looking your age

bellamountain · 15/11/2021 18:00

Being attractive to begin with will surely mean you will look better in general, even as you get older.

dayswithaY · 15/11/2021 18:39

Hilarious to think that all these celebs who have changed their faces all have children that will grow up with their original features. Kylie Jenner and the other Kardashians are unrecognisable from photos even 10 years ago but their children will inherit the noses, lips, chins etc that they hated on themselves.

ColleysMill · 15/11/2021 20:21

I'm a bit conflcted because I do look at celebrities and think ooo she looks good or hmmm not sure she looks as good as before "insert procedure " but they are in the public eye so I'm drawn to them. But are they in the public eye because people like me will read about them ? I don't know Grin

Anyway !! I agree with a lot of previous posters.

Time
Dedication to exercise
Dedication to a strict diet
Good cosmetic products and procedures
Really.good wardrobe and hairdressers and makeup artists
Angles angles angles and good lighting and filters and photoshopping

And most of these take money. Lots of money.

Jesusstolemyhotrod · 15/11/2021 22:02

Knees.

How do they stop their knees ageing? I have long, strong legs. They are toned and slim. But my knees give my age away, just like my hands do. What do they do about their knees?

dayswithaY · 15/11/2021 22:44

Not sure about knees but Madonna always wears gloves to hide the true age of her hands.

Oblomov21 · 16/11/2021 11:12

Celebrities often have very good facial features, naturally. You see a picture of them without makeup and they look a bit rough, but they still are naturally pretty. Then you see the final product of fully made up and styled. It's impressive.

But it wouldn't work as well on me. Although even Gok and Trinny make normal folk look fab.

FreeBritnee · 16/11/2021 11:15

I watched Amanda Holden in a documentary earlier this year and she looked entirely her age. In
all the photos you see she looks incredible. On BGT she has amazing lighting. In bog standard lighting and having to animate her face, she looks like a normal middle aged person. Don’t be fooled.

tigerpants800 · 16/11/2021 11:33

There is something so unattractive about the obsession with attractiveness.

But the pursuit of fitness and good health- that radiates a certain kind of real self love to me.

Nevermindthefurball · 16/11/2021 12:02

I agree tigerpants. I am so appreciative of the level of fitness I have at my age, the rest seems irrelevant.

I feel there is weaker solidarity between older and younger women than with men because attractiveness is such a highly rated aspect of being female that seeing that wane with age is offputting to younger women. In contrast ageing men aren’t losing so much of a central part of how they are valued and therefore their status is much less reduced.

Nevermindthefurball · 16/11/2021 12:05

It’s all over this thread. Why does it matter if your knees give your age away? Why do we think this is bad?

Yusanaim · 16/11/2021 12:19

Well ageing meaning what 40? 80? - fat bald (as many of them are) old men don't get much respect imv - they don't get many acting parts either .

Some un botoxed people do/did get character parts - Diana Rigg, Brian Cox, but I guess they also need characterful faces. Not every old person has that.

IntermittentParps · 16/11/2021 12:30

Their jobs aren’t especially challenging or stressful.
Grin
Seriously?
Live telly.
Filming schedules.
Singing/dancing live in front of crowds.
Constant media scrutiny.

No, they're not working down a mine, but I reckon you'd find those jobs pretty challenging if you had to do one.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 16/11/2021 12:34

Plastic surgery
Cosmetic non-surgical stuff like Botox and fillers
Personal trainers
Nannies and other household help to minimise the daily burden
Money
Access to the best hairstylists, often being done at a discount or for free
Fashion stylists
Heavy makeup on tv and magazine shoots
Filters and photoshop
Sadly often disordered eating too

Whylurkwhenicanjoinin · 16/11/2021 12:40

Not read the full thread because Im at work but if you're basing this on the newspapers and magazines then please don't. They are airbrushed to oblivion. A friend was at an event a couple of weeks ago and spotted a well known female celeb of a certain age and said she looked so different in real life, so much botox/filler she looked like a waxwork. I wouldn't want that lifestyle, having to be coiffured every day before you step out the door and constantly dieting!

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/11/2021 13:00

I still get asked for id when buying alcohol or painkillers at 44.

Women have it stacked against us, we have 20% less collagen than men and thinner skins. If you don’t put a lot of effort in you can age really badly. Then the menopause comes along to take 30% of your collagen off you.
