How do so many female celebs in their late 40s and early 50s look so fab?

Antonia2021 · 14/11/2021 19:18

I am thinking Appleton sisters , Melanie Sykes , Victoria B, Liz Hurley , Amanda Holden ..

How at a time when they must be peri or menopausal do they look so young and slim?

Surgery. I guarantee the vast majority of them have had it. Also time and money to exercise and eat well.

foxgoosefinch · 14/11/2021 21:05

Or they're genetically blessed

Except it’s funny that actresses didn’t seem so genetically blessed before better plastic surgery came along Grin I mean there were plenty of naturally beautiful women in the generation above the current 50-somethings, but they all seemed to age relatively normally, except the Joan Rivers types who really went to town on the old style facelifts (and you could really tell, then; but surgical techniques and injectables are a lot better now).

There’s someone in another thread on MN who’s just posted today pictures of her thread lift. There’s much more cosmetic work available these days that isn’t as obvious as it used to be but still very effective. Most women, even if they can afford it, tend not to be that bothered about getting painful work done beyond a few Botox injections. But celebrities make their money from selling themselves, and so why wouldn’t they have stuff done.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 14/11/2021 21:05

I don't think the ones you've mentioned look fab either, not to me anyway. Amanda Holden looks frozen.

Haha this is a good point ! It’s definitely in recent years ...

@MsTSwift

The one that gets me is Kate Beckinsale. I mean how?! She is my age I try to keep trim etc but my god she looks 22. I have never seen any woman I know our age look like that. It’s like she’s another species!
Kate B looks very odd to me. I saw her on a chat show and her face was frozen.

Very peculiar and off-putting

Nice in a photo but fing weird in real life, gave me the chills

Definitely genetics. I'm blessed with the family 'strong bone structure' It's almost like scaffolding for my face as I age!

Interesting that others have mentioned bullying. My friend has a theory that the popular, beautiful crowd at school, basically peak in their teens.
The girls that bullied me honestly look so much older than me.
I was a skinny child, endlessly bullied for being 'foreign' (yes really) yet both of these things have enhanced my looks as an adult.

Exactly, I was bullied for the whole of my schooling years (I was even punched in the face on one occasion!). The bullies were ALWAYS, without exception, the cool, pretty, popular girls. Whereas I was the olive skinned (Italian), skinny girl with the big nose 😏

powershowerforanhour · 14/11/2021 21:11

Fab bone structure and naturally slim to begin with, cosmetic surgeons, dentists and hairdressers who are all master artists.

Stay slim the same way as a professional jockey does- the good (loads of exercise and nutritionists) and the not so great, but effective (obsession with scales, eating disorders, appetite suppressants, laxatives and diuretics for the big occasion- these last banned for jockeys now but used to be used a lot). Leads to ruined teeth, osteoporosis, drug and alcohol addiction, depression and anxiety disorders- the MH aspects exacerbated by the pressure of the big occasion, the fear of losing work especially as one ages, and the constant online trolling ( of the "hope you break your neck and your kids die of cancer you useless c*" type). I always think the two jobs have a lot of similarities.

godmum56 · 14/11/2021 21:16

Its their job....you might just as well ask why top surgeons know more about surgery than I do, how opera singers keep their voices as they age and so on...they put in the time and the money to do so.

ScreamingMeMe · 14/11/2021 21:18

@Antonia2021

HRT presumably ?

This thread was prompted. by seeing a photo of the Appleton sisters and they look no older than they did in the 90s . Seriously !

Are you sure? I think Nicole definitely looks her age here (and there's nothing wrong with looking your age!)

I agree about the bullies and peaking. Even in early 20s they were nothing special anymore

I want to know what J.Lo is doing

Isn’t she incredibly serious about diet and exercise ?

Olive oil 🤣🙄
StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 14/11/2021 21:28

My main takeaway from that Hello magazine link above is that Nicole Appleton's daughter is called Skipper!

Echobelly · 14/11/2021 21:38

Because it's their job to look fab so they have to spend the money and time doing it, through exercise, surgery, cosmetic tweaks, diet, etc, if they want to keep in work and, sadly, not get pilloried and shamed by the media.

Itsjustrenee · 14/11/2021 21:44

You can hardly compare these women with regular women. They’ve all had cosmetic work done. Amanda Holden is particularly plastic looking. She’s a terrible example to her daughters of being a real authentic woman.

ChaToilLeam · 14/11/2021 21:48

💰 👩‍⚕️ 🏃‍♀️ 🥗

FlowerFlour · 14/11/2021 21:50

I saw a Paris Hilton video recently. She's 40 and she looks exactly the same as she did at 20. She doesn't look done or botoxed or pumped up with filler, just exactly the same as she always has, like she's stopped time. There must be some secret treatment they're getting - I want it!

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 14/11/2021 21:51

If this were a twitter thread there would have been mentions of adrenochrome by now.

A580Hojas · 14/11/2021 21:57

I often pass for 10 or more years younger - bit of fat on you and naturally oily skin starts paying off when you're in your 50s Grin.

Because due to extreme self discipline, personal trainers, chefs, the gift of time (personal assistants, cleaners), and enough money to solve any problem… they never got fat in the first place.
MercyBooth · 15/11/2021 02:10

Serendipity was on GREAT Movies yesterday afternoon. (Christmas film that Kate Beckinsale was in) Its twenty years old Wheres the time gone

Blueskip · 15/11/2021 02:35

But people like Amanda H look so fake IMO. I'd rather look my age than like a piece of plastic cheese with eyes. It's too "done". Some have kept it more subtle just with things like lasers and botox and good general upkeep, supplements, skincare etc. But most of these bigger names have gone under the knife. It's very rare for them to look better after surgery IMO.
