Queen to miss Rememberance Day service

As she has apparently sprained her back.

I do wish the Palace would be honest about her health (without giving details) rather than setting her up to attend events that they know she won't be at. It can't be good for her, they should just say she's out for a while, which at her age would be completely understandable.

I think any significant announcements would be delayed due to todays service but maybe more updates on this evenings news.

At first I thought”uh-oh, the Queen’s going to die soon”. But then I remembered how my granma was at a similar age.

She had a spell in her mid-nineties and here she struggled for about a year and we really thought she was at the end of her time.

But she adjusted. She stopped going out so often, started eating a bit less and lost a bit of weight. She became an absolutely tiny old lady having previously been a little old lady. She stabilised and got into a new routine.

She had a similar phase in her mid eighties when she beat diabetes.

So I could see the Queen going to a very different schedule at some point next year- zoom meetings, receptions in crown properties for foreign dignitaries and very select outings, maybe one or two a month and only the really significant stuff.

I would imagine Covid is a factor too. Absolute disaster is the monarch succumbed to it.

@Boeing777

Just watching the service, Prince Charles looked very sad, almost tearful?
I noticed that too. He’s had a really rough time in the past few years .
DobbyTheHouseElk · 14/11/2021 11:34

Yes, I know how old HMQ is. The poor woman herself can hardly forget, it’s mentioned so many times.

I know she hasn’t got another 20 years left. She’s been reigned for the longest time. She has been totally devoted to her job. A job she wasn’t supposed to do.

Yes, I will be very sad if she dies. I don’t like to think of her in pain and feeling poorly. I’m a compassionate person.

I’m sure she has health issues. It must be serious for her to have missed the cenotaph. I did think the whole royal family look more gloomy than usual, especially during the National Anthem.

I agree. Neither the Queen or Charles would want her death to 'trump' today in any way.

Charles looked terrible when he went to see his dad in hospital when we were being told Philip was 'in good spirits'. That wasn't long before the end.

eddiemairswife · 14/11/2021 11:35

At least we won't be taken by surprise when she does die. Unlike her father's death which really was a bolt from the blue.

NadiaVulvokov · 14/11/2021 11:36

BTW my granma lived to nearly 101, and lived in her own home independently with no carers or domestic help until a couple of months before she died.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 14/11/2021 11:36

Bugger, my post makes no sense. Autocorrect has made me look illiterate.

PickupaPenguin8 · 14/11/2021 11:36

@ArblemarchTFruitbat

I think he did.

Yes, he did. The rain poured down that day. It was a very British sight - the boat with the soaking wet choir singing 'Rule Britannia'.

There were huge plush seats on the Royal boat, but none of them sat down. That evening there was a concert but Philip couldn't attend as he'd been taken ill. Not surprising as any viruses etc. that had been lurking would've had a field day while he was soaking and freezing on that boat.

He was hospitalised with a Irvine infection afterwards I seem to remember?
PickupaPenguin8 · 14/11/2021 11:37

Urine

Urine
Yes, I think you're right, it was a UTI.

Didn't watch it but having now looked at the pictures they all look very gloomy indeed, so it wouldn't be particularly surprising now if something serious is going on.

viques · 14/11/2021 11:39

She is 95. I wouldn’t want my 95 year old Granny to be standing on a balcony in the cold in the middle of November for over half an hour. She probably wouldn’t sit down, remember that river parade when she stood for four hours in freezing cold because she wanted people to see her? She is a tough old biddy but I think there are limits and she is reaching hers.

[I see Andrew didn’t get the invite. Good. ]

I agree they’d delay an announcement of a more serious issue, but if that was the plan I don’t think they’d outright lie about the back thing. If they were thinking, “well we’ll not say it now but give details later” then I think they’d have said “medical advice” or something vague that can then be clarified. Not back sprain which if you then expand on as something more serious looks like an initial lie.
PomRuns · 14/11/2021 11:42

Agree - Charles look very upset 😕

LakieLady · 14/11/2021 11:43

@PupInAPram

I'm not a royalist. I think the Queen should be our last monarch as a country. That being said, I was born in 1960 and have never known anyone but the Queen as the head of state. When she passes, I will feel sad, in an end of an era kind of way. I speak as someone who thought the public reaction to Diana's death was ridiculous.
Your post summarises my views on the matter so well that I had to check I hadn't posted in my sleep, @PupInAPram!
RubyTuesday70 · 14/11/2021 11:43

Charles looked distraught after visiting his father.

He has that same look on his face today, in fact they all do.

I hope that Her Majesty is comfortable. Becoming a widow at 95 will have completely knocked her from her foundations.

PickupaPenguin8 · 14/11/2021 11:44

@Malibuismysecrethome

Didn’t HM take a tumble from her horse recently. Perfectly possible to have hurt her back and it being worsened by her soldering on and it’s now a bigger problem. I believe that she has hurt her back. If she’s fractured it it’s agonising.
I read she’s been told not to ride anymore.
lollipoprainbow · 14/11/2021 11:45

The royals all looked very strained today.

I agree. I thought the same. I also thought they looked grim at last nights event.

I thought Anne and Edward looked perfectly neutral - sombre for the occasion but certainly not distraught.

amsadandconfused · 14/11/2021 11:47

I thought Charles looked very troubled…who can blame him with all his family stress! Havnt seen Kate .Usually they zoom in on the balcony but I have only seen Duke and Duchess of Kent !
If there is big news about the Queen it will be withheld today because the Queen would not want a distraction for the veterans.

HarrisonStickle · 14/11/2021 11:48

I've just seen a recent pick of her in the back of a car. She looks dreadful. Very poorly.

It wasn’t the duchess of Kent, it was princess Alexandra I believe. The duke of Kent’s sister. They did show a lot of that balcony though I agree! Kate was stood with Camilla as usual, Sophie joined them I guess as the queen wasn’t there.
FictionalCharacter · 14/11/2021 11:50

@Spaghettio

I am thinking from the other side of this. I presumed she was saying she wanted to work but was being advised against it. She doesn't strike me as a person who will happily stop working.

I think she rested for the last few weeks on the proviso that she could attend Remembrance Day, however has found this morning that she's not up to it. I don't think the "palace" are forcing her to work. I think they're forcing her to rest!

I agree. She’s extremely dedicated to what she sees as her duty, and probably strongly resists cancelling anything in advance. So she’s ended up in a position where it’s completely impossible to go because she’s just not well enough, hence the last minute cancellations which I’m sure she’s not at all happy about.
