Queen to miss Rememberance Day service

As she has apparently sprained her back.

I do wish the Palace would be honest about her health (without giving details) rather than setting her up to attend events that they know she won't be at. It can't be good for her, they should just say she's out for a while, which at her age would be completely understandable.

@WeeTattieBogle yes, I noticed him too

The 9am headlines on the Andrew Marr show this morning announced that the Queen would be attending the remembrance service, yet by 9.30 the BBC were announcing that she wouldn't be attending due to a back sprain. Clearly she didn't just sprain her back between 9 and 9.30 this morning. The Palace comms team need to get their message clear instead of all these last minute changes of plans. It's unsettling for everyone.

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 14/11/2021 11:19

I think he did.

Yes, he did. The rain poured down that day. It was a very British sight - the boat with the soaking wet choir singing 'Rule Britannia'.

There were huge plush seats on the Royal boat, but none of them sat down. That evening there was a concert but Philip couldn't attend as he'd been taken ill. Not surprising as any viruses etc. that had been lurking would've had a field day while he was soaking and freezing on that boat.

the80sweregreat · 14/11/2021 11:20

people are writing her off a bit too quickly!
Maybe it's just sciatica and she wasn't up to it today ? At 95 your allowed a ' pass ' surely and watch it on tv?
I think she'll be around for a few more years yet

WeeTattieBogle · 14/11/2021 11:21

Prince Charles always wears his feelings on his sleeve on these occasions and this year probably all the more so today considering he’s just lost his father and his mother isn’t well enough to attend today.

He may also be thinking this is what the future will be like without my Mother here.

thank you. 😊

Anyone know why all the recent prime ministers there except Theresa May? Or did I miss her?

You missed her. She was there next to David Cameron.
lollipoprainbow · 14/11/2021 11:25

I agree Charles looked emotional but then isn't that his usual look on these occasions. Kate, Camilla and Sophie looked a bit teary singing 'god save the queen' too. Camilla was barely singing the hymn either she doesn't seem right.

JohnKettleyIsAWeatherman · 14/11/2021 11:25

@DerbyshireMama

I think she's possibly dead. It would have to be something very serious for her to miss this particular engagement. All she'd really have needed to do would be sit on a balcony in a wheelchair.
It may not be as straightforward as that. I'd have thought that if there's been a visible deterioration in her health the decision may have been taken that she shouldn't appear in order to avoid upsetting the public/fuelling rumours about her health.

Additionally (and I'm guessing here, as I have no medical knowledge of the issue) if she really does have a sprained back (which sounds excruciating) it might require her to remain lying down - and I'd have thought she'd be in way too much pain to sit in a wheelchair.

Goatling · 14/11/2021 11:25

Camilla looked to be in tears when the national anthem was played.

campion · 14/11/2021 11:26

@HeronLanyon I agree with you. But I think she's made of fairly tough stuff and will be around for a little while longer. Hope so.

ErmineAndPearls · 14/11/2021 11:27

@Vapeyvapevape

The Queen is very kyphotic now , so back pain isn’t unusual.
Ooh, love it when I learn a new word. Thanks, vapey!

@ItsSnowJokes

I know someone who works for one of the major TV news outlets and they say that her obituary is being updated daily, they expect the news of her passing almost every day. Its to be expected really at 95, but will be a very sad loss to me. We have never known anyone else as our monarch.
Why would they need to update her obituary "daily"? Hmm It's a summary of the main significant events of her life, not a day-by-day calendar!
AutumnAlmanack · 14/11/2021 11:27

I thought Camilla looked 'different' somehow - missed the singing.

JohnStonesMissus · 14/11/2021 11:28

I must admit that was quite a rousing version, I'd never heard it sung so loudly at the cenotaph before..
lollipoprainbow · 14/11/2021 11:28

Sophie looked especially grim and seemed to give a knowing look to Kate and Camilla at the end there. Something up for sure.

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 14/11/2021 11:29

Yes. The Queen would not want to take the focus off the veterans by appearing in a wheelchair - which would doubtless be headline news.

exactly what we said. Camilla looked frozen and not really 'there' in the hymn.

I think the Queen is really quite ill. And I wish her well.

lollipoprainbow · 14/11/2021 11:29

I wonder if Camilla is ok she seemed odd at the service last night at the Albert Hall almost like she didn't know what was going on.

lollipoprainbow · 14/11/2021 11:30

@WinterFirTree she knows her life is about to change considerably if the queen is seriously poorly.

PickupaPenguin8 · 14/11/2021 11:30

There was a photo of her returning to Windsor from Sandringham in her car. She looked puffy and unwell. Could well be a urine infection.
I think the time has come for her to make Charles Regent now and step back. She shouldn’t have to appear in public or meet ministers at her age. However it’s up to her in the end. No one can force her to hand over the reins. I suspect she will be like Philip and be in and out of hospital with various things now. Which will create a lot of difficulty for her team when making arrangements.
