Queen to miss Rememberance Day service

As she has apparently sprained her back.

I do wish the Palace would be honest about her health (without giving details) rather than setting her up to attend events that they know she won't be at. It can't be good for her, they should just say she's out for a while, which at her age would be completely understandable.

She's recently widowed, and despite being privileged and wealthy, grief really is a leveller. I broke down at the 2 minutes silence last week at a rugby match because it is the first time since my husband died that I have been present at an Armistice Day silence, I didn't expect to be so affected after nearly 3 years. HM will associate the service with her late DH, and it may well be so bloody painful that although she was planning to go, she just wasn't able to when it came down to it. Grief isn't linear or predictable so it could be a simple an explanation as that.

The Queen would never sit down on an occasion such as this, if you remember the Jubilee boat trip up the Thames there were two thrones on board for the Queen and Phillip to sit on but they refused point blank, if my memory serves me correct they both became unwell afterwards.

Brefugee · 14/11/2021 11:05

I don't see what is disrespectful about this conversation. Last week it was literally announced she would attend, and now last minute she's not.

She is the monarch, it is natural that people worry (if they are that way inclined) about her health, and the fact that she is old.

Sparklingbrook · 14/11/2021 11:07

Are people genuinely worried about the Queen's health though. Really?

Boeing777 · 14/11/2021 11:07

Just watching the service, Prince Charles looked very sad, almost tearful?

WeeTattieBogle · 14/11/2021 11:09

I’m concerned for HMQ and I hope we’ll see her soon.

I was looking forward to seeing her today n

Was that Prince Andrew in the background when the camera was on the Duke of Kent, just before the Royals came out to lay their wreaths.

He looked distraught
TheFairyCaravan · 14/11/2021 11:09

She wasn't ever going to stand and lay the wreath, she was going to watch from a balcony while Prince Charles laid the wreath. She could easily have been sitting for that.

Definitely something else going on here.

I know exactly what she does thanks. She wouldn’t have said she’d be there if she wasn’t going to be. The Queen thinks a lot of the Armed Forces, veterans and their families. She doesn’t just pull out for no reason.

Why does everything have to be a bloody conspiracy theory on here?

WeeTattieBogle · 14/11/2021 11:10

Yes. I am. She’s had a horrible few years. It’s enough to have knocked anyone for six let alone a woman of her age.

HarrisonStickle · 14/11/2021 11:10

In another thread someone said, when she missed something a couple of weeks ago, if she missed today then there was a lot more going on with her health and that things were more serious than her needing to rest up for a bit.

MissAmbrosia · 14/11/2021 11:11

I was just thinking the same - he looked very emotional. I know its a sombre occasion but they all look very "grim" today.

BiLuminous · 14/11/2021 11:11

I don''t think she has to say what's wrong with her publicly if it isn't a strained back. Yes she's the Queen but she's given us so much of her life already, she has a right to some privacy over her health and it wouldn't be in the nature of the monarchy to be listing all her ailments.

We must have been watching a different service then! He just looked pensive to me. He's not exactly going to be looking cheery at a Remembrance Service is he?!

Of course Prince Charles looked sad. It's Remembrance Day! He has served in the armed forces, knows loads of veterans and will have known many who have died. Including his father.

AutumnAlmanack · 14/11/2021 11:13

Yes, I thought Charles, William and Anne all looked very emotional - it could be the mood of the event though. Poor old Charles, he did look glum and it's his birthday today.

I think I am worried about her health because I think we are at such a very low ebb at the moment - just kind of feel her death if it were to come soon (hoping that’s not treasonous) would be just pretty awful all round - genuine grief for many and for those who feel differently another royal thing to watch and shake head at etc etc. Whatever our thoughts or reactions we just so truly don’t need that right now.

Don't forget, he and the others lost their father and grandfather earlier this year. The service is probably reminding them of their loss.

We thought the same.

I think he did. And some others, because if the queen is stood up then no one else can sit down.
TheVolturi · 14/11/2021 11:15

I agree that Prince Charles looked really emotional. Which is expected, I mean even I get emotional during the silence, but he really did.

Goatling · 14/11/2021 11:16

Boeing777 I thought that too, also at last nights remembrance service he looked as if he was near to tears.

I'm not worried in the same way I'd be worried about a close family member.

Whatever people think about the monarchy, she's been Head of State for all or most of our lives. Change is coming. It's disconcerting. It's inevitable. It may be tomorrow, it may be in two years.

Talking about it, wondering, is natural for many. It's a way of preparing for that change.
