Queen to miss Rememberance Day service

As she has apparently sprained her back.

I do wish the Palace would be honest about her health (without giving details) rather than setting her up to attend events that they know she won't be at. It can't be good for her, they should just say she's out for a while, which at her age would be completely understandable.

@Boeing777

Just watching the service, Prince Charles looked very sad, almost tearful?
I thought so too
julieca · 14/11/2021 18:42

I think the talk of the Sussexes coming to Balmoral was tabloid talk. Just like the tabloid talk about a possible christening in England of Archie. The sussexes never gave any indication there was any truth in all these rumours.

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 14/11/2021 18:43

@julieca

Charles diary is not that full with official engagements, look at the court circular. He could easily fly over for a few days.
I was thinking more in the long-term if the Queen takes the decision to step back (as Philip did). It would make more sense for Charles to take over her diary and then for a Royal without much of a diary to take over Charles's. Edward perhaps? I would suggest Beatrice or Eugenie but I think they'll both be tied up with their young DC
julieca · 14/11/2021 18:47

@ArblemarchTFruitbat fair enough.
I do find it perplexing though how the current RF woman members with children are apparently unable to work much in spite of having staff. This is always the reason we are given as to why Catharine cant do more engagements.

Whenigrowupiwanttobea · 14/11/2021 18:49

So she has been increasingly frail since Phillip died. She is now walking with sticks. She has been told to take significant rest and to give up alcohol completely and has back pain. She also spent a night in hospital for tests so possibly xray, ct, MRI, pet scans (looking for something more serious than a simple blood test or urine test would reveal). So there could be something serious underlying her current status or it could simply be she is a tired 95 year old!

julieca · 14/11/2021 18:50

I suspect there is something more serious going on.
And yes the RF members did all look exceptionally sombre at Remembrance Day.

.Well I guess in theory like you and I Prince Charles could do an internet booking tonight with BA/Virgin or AA and rock up at LHR tomorrow for a flight to LAX….

I’m just imaging how that would work out in practice (thinks of the reaction in the UK Foreign Office, various protocol offices, and various Departments on the US side of the Atlantic )…….have to say I wish he would try it just to see the absolute S…. Storm that could possibly result on both sides of the Pond…

julieca · 14/11/2021 18:52

@notimagain he flies on private jets. The staff just need to book him a private flight. Its really not that hard.

I suppose the short answer is that they don't want to - in the same way some women choose to be SAHMs even though they had a career pre-DC and childcare would be affordable if they went back to work.

julieca · 14/11/2021 18:53

@ArblemarchTFruitbat sure I believe that Catherine does not want to work at all.

It’s not the flights themselves that’s the problem.

I don’t think that’s the reason Beatrice and Eugenie don’t do engagements though. They just aren’t really working royals are they? They do some charity stuff but like Zara they don’t really do official royal engagements.

julieca · 14/11/2021 18:55

@SickAndTiredAgain no they dont. Andrew wanted them to and was told no.
But another poster claims they cant do engagements because they have children. I think they are just seen as not popular with the public.

Anordinarymum · 14/11/2021 18:58

@holidaynearlyover

I thought exactly the same about Charles and how upset he looked.
Charles looked frazzled at The Cenotaph. I think he is a very heavy drinker given the odd colour of his skin.
Roussette · 14/11/2021 18:58

Whether it's fair or not, I don't think B&E will ever do royal duties because of who their father is.

julieca · 14/11/2021 18:58

@notimagain you were the one that talked about booking flights. But he has security. He only needs a car to an airport with private jets, and a car the other end to Sussexes house. Security team could plan that and airports with private jets often get major celebrities and RF members so will have security protocol in place.
You are acting as if I am suggesting Charles goes wild camping on Dartmoor. Its really not that big a deal to fly someone with security to America and transport them in a car.

@Anordinarymum - that really is not fair - he could have rosacea which produces exactly the same effect, I have it too.

lollipoprainbow · 14/11/2021 19:04

Boris has said she is very well in his press conference tonight so why did the royals look so strained and upset ??

SickAndTiredAgain · 14/11/2021 19:04

I don’t think it’s even their father, I just think that the cousins (them, Peter and Zara, and Louise and James when grown up) aren’t ever going to be part of the “main” group. They’ll do some charity stuff, maybe lend their name to some specific causes (Beatrice ran the London marathon for charity for example, and Eugenie supports a scoliosis charity I believe) but I don’t think anyone ever expected any of them to be working royals.
They’ll be the king’s nieces and nephews - the queen’s niece and nephew aren’t working royals, I’d bet plenty of people couldn’t even name them.

EdithWeston · 14/11/2021 19:04

@Roussette

Except of course if there are to be changes to Counsellors of State.

That's the first 4 adults in the line of succession, so if Harry is suspended from the position because he is domiciled overseas, and Andrew is removed because he's, well, Andrew, then the next two are Beatrice and Eugenie

I don't think he has. I actually think he has a drinking problem, and I do not mean to be unkind. If he is to succeed the Queen he should look after himself a little better.

EdithWeston · 14/11/2021 19:07

@lollipoprainbow

Because the press select what we see?

And because they always look sombre at Remembrance services

And because it's the first one since Prince Phillip died (and he had an extensive wartime military career and it must have resonated)

Arsewangry · 14/11/2021 19:08

@DaphneduM

I agree Charles looked very upset, also Sophie. Camilla, William and Princess Anne looked serious, appropriately so for the occasion. I don't know if it was nerves, but watching it on Sky just before the 11 o'clock two minutes silence Kate smiled, very odd.
I saw that. She smiled in response to DoCornwall presumably commenting on it being cold as she started to bounce on her feet slightly.
DoraMaude · 14/11/2021 19:08

It's pretty sad that if someone has a florid complexion people assume they have a drinking problem. One of my closest friends suffers badly with thread veins and rosacea but she doesn't drink. I've never heard rumours that Charles is a heavy drinker.
