As she has apparently sprained her back.

I do wish the Palace would be honest about her health (without giving details) rather than setting her up to attend events that they know she won't be at. It can't be good for her, they should just say she's out for a while, which at her age would be completely understandable.

@PickupaPenguin8 He could go and visit them if he wanted to.

Poetrypatty · 14/11/2021 17:15

I do wonder how Charles feels as he approaches another Xmas without seeing Harry or his grandchildren in America. He must feel so sad, especially now he's lost his father and possibly his mother is not well. It's his birthday today as well.

To get to your 70s with one parent still alive and one around until recently is pretty fortunate. Plus he lives in splendour with servants, so I don't feel sorry for him, other than as much as I would for anyone whose mother is ill which is lots of people. As pp said he can go and see Harry if he wants.

julieca · 14/11/2021 17:19

Yes true that most people don't get to their 70s with one parent alive and one recently died. We all sadly lose our parents. But most are a lot younger than this.

gingerlyme · 14/11/2021 17:20

I noticed in photos of the royal family they all look very worried including The Dutchess of Cambridge. Normally she is smiling in all her photos, but not in the last couple of days...

VladmirsPoutine · 14/11/2021 17:21

He could go and visit them if he wanted to.

But then we'd miss out on all the fun we could have bashing Meghan.

VladmirsPoutine · 14/11/2021 17:22

I just looked it up, Charles is 73 and his mum is still alive! That alone is really quite phenomenal!

Laiste · 14/11/2021 17:27

@Vapeyvapevape

She is 95 ! 95 years old , she does really well to carry on as she does and it’s not surprising she’s going to start missing some events. She maybe just couldn’t face this Remembrance Day as she’s lost her husband and she felt too emotional.
I wondered this too. She may have begun the day with the full intention of doing it all and then got weepy thinking about PP and perhaps worried about losing control on the balcony.

I know she held herself amazingly together for his funeral, but funerals can be funny like that. You build up to it and kind of go into auto pilot. First remembrance day, with all it's own usual solemnity, without PP might have been a bit much for her.

the80sweregreat · 14/11/2021 17:39

Maybe Charles hasn't been invited to see Harry and the family ? Or they just don't want to go ? It would be a logistical nightmare I would imagine as well. He saw Harry back in the summer too.
Many families don't see each other for years when they choose to emigrate, it's how it is!

EdithWeston · 14/11/2021 17:39

Last time Prince Phillip was at the Cenotaph ceremony was 2017.

I know it's a bit different because he won't be there when she gets back, but he wasn't literally by her side for a few years before her death and that must have accustomed her to being solo.

And she's got a lifetime of experience of masking emotion when she's on show.

I think the bad back is true. But agree it might not be the whole truth

It’s pretty clear he isn’t welcome though isn’t it?!!
SweatyYetti · 14/11/2021 17:44

She's got a broken heart, son in the press for accuses paedophilia, grandson broken away from the family, all in the press, Diana issue on Netflixes Crown when she tried so hard to present as all is well with the family for the cameras.... It's going to take its toll sadly poor Lady.

I was just looking at some pics from the Albert Hall last night & thinking that Camilla didn't look all that well.

PickupaPenguin8 · 14/11/2021 17:55

Yes I thought that too

I cant imagine they would turn him away. How is it any more a logistical nightmare than all the other foreign trips the Royal Family do? Most grandparents would have flown over.
the80sweregreat · 14/11/2021 18:04

I love how Harry and Meghan receive all the blame for her being poorly in her advanced years ; what about her son Andrew ? He can't have helped her health either with all the allegations still hanging over him. Whatever H and M have done (or not done ) pales into insignificance compared to him ! I'm not a royalist , but I just know that with she does die it'll all be her grandsons fault , according to some anyway ! It's just bizarre really.

lollipoprainbow · 14/11/2021 18:11

Maybe Charles is worried about her then rather than his mum? I don't think she looked good last night or today rather far away and a bit vacant. She kept doing odd little smiles at the Albert hall last night.

That article is from two years ago.

Tyredofallthis1 · 14/11/2021 18:21

Royal engagements are usually booked up months, if not years, in advance. I don't think that Prince Charles can just whizz over.

julieca · 14/11/2021 18:25

@SickAndTiredAgain sorry. Should have checked the date.

julieca · 14/11/2021 18:25

@Tyredofallthis1 of course he can, if he wants to.

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 14/11/2021 18:28

It would need a lot of reshuffling as Charles will have his own engagements which may clash with the Queen's, and the same goes for the Duke of Cambridge.

julieca · 14/11/2021 18:30

Charles diary is not that full with official engagements, look at the court circular. He could easily fly over for a few days.

The diaries of the 'Magnificent 7' will be in some disarray, as they work out who can cover the Queen's engagements.

Prince Charles might perhaps have been able to travel over the summer (but wasn't there talk of the Sussexes coming to Balmoral? It came to naught, but might have influence planning at the time)

Formally, only Counsellors of State can represent the Queen. It might be time to look again at the list. It's the Consort, then by line of succession of those aged over 21

So Currently it's Charles, William, Harry and Andrew. I think Harry could be suspended from the position as he is not domiciled in UK, and Andrew really needs to be removed - but I don't think there's a mechanism for that. Maybe he could consent to standing down?

That leaves Charles and William, and the next to add would be Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie. There might be a case to add Camilla early, as she is expected to become Consort

Though of course any of them can cover wider duties (the charitable and glad-handing stuff)
