As she has apparently sprained her back.

I do wish the Palace would be honest about her health (without giving details) rather than setting her up to attend events that they know she won't be at. It can't be good for her, they should just say she's out for a while, which at her age would be completely understandable.

@AutumnAlmanack yes Charles is supposed to have rosacea.
But he is rumoured to start the day with a gin martini at breakfast.
Camilla has confirmed that Charles is an ardent gin drinker.

User135644 · 14/11/2021 19:09

Not wise for a 95 year old to be mixing in crowds anyway in the middle of a pandemic.

notimagain · 14/11/2021 19:10
@notimagain you were the one that talked about booking flights. But he has security. He only needs a car to an airport with private jets, and a car the other end to Sussexes house. Security team could plan that and airports with private jets often get major celebrities and RF members so will have security protocol in place.
You are acting as if I am suggesting Charles goes wild camping on Dartmoor. Its really not that big a deal to fly someone with security to America and transport them in a car.
If look at what I wrote you’ll see I didn’t just mention flights, and in any event the flights aren’t the big deal..FWIW even senior royals have been known to hop onto flights to/from the States with national carriers, with their security team in tow…that’s not the complicated bit…

I think the complications (admin and political, both sides of the water) would be on the ground and I can’t really see HRH looking at his schedule, seeing a gap, and suddenly deciding to pack a bag at short notice and hoping on a jet private or otherwise.

Even a private visit would takes weeks plus to organize.

@notimagain sure it would take weeks to organise. It would take weeks to organise if I was flying to America to visit my family there as well. Still perfectly possible.

I think that there will be shock but it will be a different kind of shock than at the death of Diana, it will be an end of an era. It almost feels to me like HMQ has always been there and thus would always be there in a strange way. It will be like a sort of culture shock and I hope she has some time left yet.

DoraMaude · 14/11/2021 19:17

Julieca I do, and I do know some people who 'know' things. I've genuinely never heard it said that Charles is a heavy drinker. I'm not saying it's not true though. I've just never heard it.

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 14/11/2021 19:18

SickAndTiredAgain As julieca says, the York princesses wanted to be working Royals but this was at the time Charles was slimming down the RF and the idea was kiboshed.

However, at that point Harry and Andrew were still around as working Royals - Charles wouldn't have reckoned on them becoming unavailable by the time the Queen needed to reduce her workload. The absence of Harry and Andrew might force a rethink.

The country would hopefully respond in a more dignified way, to that embarrassing hysteria.

The Queen has always lived her life with the upmost dignity.

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 14/11/2021 19:28

Not a hope! At the time of Diana's death, social media was in its infancy. Competitive grieving hadn't become an embedded practice. TV talent shows were also in their infancy - we were only just learning to celebrate people weeping and wailing over trivial nonsense..

Trust me, the public reaction will be much, much more hysterical when the Queen dies. It will make Diana's death look like an exercise in restraint and dignity.

SunshineCake1 · 14/11/2021 19:30
@ArblemarchTFruitbat fair enough.
I do find it perplexing though how the current RF woman members with children are apparently unable to work much in spite of having staff. This is always the reason we are given as to why Catharine cant do more engagements.
Maybe they want to look after their children for most of the time.

julieca · 14/11/2021 19:30

No people wont respond as they did to Diana. Diana was a young mother and her death was a shock. The Queen is 95 years old.

julieca · 14/11/2021 19:33

@SunshineCake1 Catherines kids are at school or nursery and she has a nanny and other staff. She could spend every waking moment with them and still work part-time.
She is going to be one of those mums who will claim she still has to a SAHM when her youngest is 15 years old.

SunshineCake1 · 14/11/2021 19:40

So what?
I've stayed at home with mine and they are 16, 18 and 20 now.

LadyZoom · 14/11/2021 19:40

@Whenigrowupiwanttobea

So she has been increasingly frail since Phillip died. She is now walking with sticks. She has been told to take significant rest and to give up alcohol completely and has back pain. She also spent a night in hospital for tests so possibly xray, ct, MRI, pet scans (looking for something more serious than a simple blood test or urine test would reveal). So there could be something serious underlying her current status or it could simply be she is a tired 95 year old!
At 95 years old there is no way I would consider giving up alcohol completely, unless it would make me sick in conjunction with meds or something.

What's the worst that can happen if she does have her daily tipples? A quicker demise maybe, but a more enjoyable journey bless her.

She has done her bit, I hope she enjoys what time is left to her.

Roussette · 14/11/2021 19:47

But, if you have a partner, I bet he works full time?
William doesn't. His diary is pretty sparse at times. Surely it doesn't need two parents at home.

Personally, I don't think we will be seeing too much of the Queen, she obviously needs rest and would not want to appear in public looking frail.

julieca · 14/11/2021 19:52

And that is fine. I mean nobody has to work at all if they can fund themselves. But Catherine is a member of the RF who effectively has a job as a RF member. She has always done very little. In any other job she would have been sacked for being so work shy.
julieca · 14/11/2021 19:53

@LadyZoom it may be because her daily tipples put her at risk of falls.

SunshineCake1 · 14/11/2021 19:56

Maybe they want to spend time together with the children ?

DH did work full time but not now.

They can only do what there is to do. There isn't going to be 9-5 every day for every member of the royal family. Only so many buildings to open, etc etc etc.

Rainbows89 · 14/11/2021 20:02

I was also struck by how sad the royal family looked in the photos. Particularly Kate and Sophie. I know it’s a sad occasion but it’s also an occasion of respect and honour so I don’t think they need to look quite so sad.

I love the Queen and feel very sad to think that she is unwell. I am not a massive fan of the royals but I have a huge respect for the Queen and will be so sad when she passes.

PickupaPenguin8 · 14/11/2021 20:05

Does Catherine do less than Diana did? Does she do less than Camilla? What is the yardstick by which we are measuring these things?
I don’t think Margaret or the Q M did much either!
Remember she has three children who need a lot of her time and attention, even though she has a nanny and staff. She also lives in Norfolk so needs to be helicoptered to London for engagements.
I’m interested to know why she is accused of being lazy. Most Royals have sent their children to boarding school. Her children live at home.

TroysMammy · 14/11/2021 20:07

@julieca

I suspect there is something more serious going on. And yes the RF members did all look exceptionally sombre at Remembrance Day.
It's Remembrance Day of course they look sombre. It's not a happy, smiley occasion.
VladmirsPoutine · 14/11/2021 20:07

In any other job she would have been sacked for being so work shy.

That's why she was savvy enough to become a princess. It basically grants you a ticket to have the utmost lavish lifestyle without having to lift a finger. I'm sure she could hire someone to change her pad if she so desired.

What a truly nasty post. So you believe she didn’t love William then? She married him so she could be lazy! Are you for real? You sound jealous and spiteful.
