Queen to miss Rememberance Day service

As she has apparently sprained her back.

I do wish the Palace would be honest about her health (without giving details) rather than setting her up to attend events that they know she won't be at. It can't be good for her, they should just say she's out for a while, which at her age would be completely understandable.

I agree. I don’t believe she’s sprained her back. Seems very suspicious. We have been told she was helicoptered to Sandringham to prepare for Christmas. I wonder where she actually is.

I’m a big fan of HMQ and I’m concerned that something is very wrong with her health.

tiredanddangerous · 14/11/2021 09:28

I don't believe the back story either. I don't understand why they can't just say she's taking an extended break and leave it at that. It would hopefully put a stop to the endless speculation!

LawnFever · 14/11/2021 09:29

I agree, she’s a very elderly woman, I think she should just put her feet up tbh and stop being expected to do all these things, especially like you say when she’s often just going to have to cancel.

Whyamistilltired · 14/11/2021 09:30

Why does everything have to be a cover up? Maybe she has hurt her back who knows? She's a very elderly lady when all is said and done

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 14/11/2021 09:31

Surely you can all read between the lines? She's a very elderly woman who is still expected to work for some mad reason and she's not up to it. She might be declining or she might just be really tired. They aren't going to share if she is moving towards the end, that would be totally inappropriate.

HeddaGarbled · 14/11/2021 09:31

Oh dear, that is worrying. I hope she’s OK. I don’t think anyone’s done anything wrong so I don’t know why your first reaction is to be cross rather than sympathetic.

LawnFever · 14/11/2021 09:32

@CloseYourEyesAndSee erm, yeah that’s exactly what everyone else is saying if you read the thread Smile

She's in her mid 90's! I love the Queen too but you do need to accept she's towards the end of her life and she may well die any minute, she may not of course but approaching 100??

pictish · 14/11/2021 09:33

“I’m a big fan of HMQ and I’m concerned that something is very wrong with her health.”

She is 95. For goodness sake, there will be lots wrong with her health. She’s very old now.

Whyamistilltired · 14/11/2021 09:34

Def don't think she's being 'made' to work

JurgensCakeBaby · 14/11/2021 09:34

I think with Covid rates increasing they are probably also protecting her from busy events, she's very elderly! They won't want to say that though because it becomes political.

margotsdevil · 14/11/2021 09:34

I saw this and was sad. My first thought was though that when she'd got up this morning she clearly wasn't fit to take part and therefore her press office panicked and came up with the first thing they could think of that sounded minor but would prevent her standing for an hour or so. It seems odd that someone who has officially been resting for a few weeks would manage to strain their back?

SnarkyBag · 14/11/2021 09:35

She’s a 95 year old woman who not long lost her husband. Do the powers that be really think the nation wouldn’t understand her simply not being up to all the events anymore?

All this cloak and dagger, silly lies does nothing to make the royal family look credible anymore. I used to be quite a supporter of the royal family but now I find it all quite tiresome.

ItsSnowJokes · 14/11/2021 09:36

I know someone who works for one of the major TV news outlets and they say that her obituary is being updated daily, they expect the news of her passing almost every day. Its to be expected really at 95, but will be a very sad loss to me. We have never known anyone else as our monarch.

Not really. You can strain your back coughing.
BalloonSlayer · 14/11/2021 09:36

Private Eye's "flunky" ( Palace leaker) say that she has just got an infection that's proving difficult to shift. They imply a urine infection. Which is why she is well enough to do zoom calls from home but not long visits.

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 14/11/2021 09:37

I wonder if she can't face some things because it will be the first time since Philip died.

But she's 95 - you can't expect her to be fully active at that age, notwithstanding the top health-care she has always received - a body can only go on so long without wearing out, however well you take care of it.

Peaseblossum22 · 14/11/2021 09:38

I do think that part of the problem is that she has always been adamant that she will not abdicate and that being Queen is her duty for life. But the thing is no one seriously considered the implications of having someone of 95 as Queen. She can’t just cease dealing with the job of privy council meetings , audiences with the PM and the blasted red boxes, meeting foreign dignitaries etc.I think she should formally appoint Prince Charles as Regent , that way she is still Queen and can appear when she can but the day to day job will be done by Charles and she can retire to the country.

StCharlotte · 14/11/2021 09:39

DH suggests she may have had a fall which would explain the zoom ability but not in-person appearance.

Spaghettio · 14/11/2021 09:40

I am thinking from the other side of this. I presumed she was saying she wanted to work but was being advised against it. She doesn't strike me as a person who will happily stop working.

I think she rested for the last few weeks on the proviso that she could attend Remembrance Day, however has found this morning that she's not up to it. I don't think the "palace" are forcing her to work. I think they're forcing her to rest!

SickAndTiredAgain · 14/11/2021 09:41

From what I’ve read, the Remembrance Sunday event is one thing she views as very important. So she may well have been told she probably can’t do it, and she may have insisted it be kept on her schedule, and everything done to make it happen. Everyone else could have thought it was a terrible idea, but if she insists that everyone is told she’s going, what are they going to do. I’m not saying that is what happened, just that I wouldn’t be massively surprised if she wanted to leave this decision until the last minute and only cancel on the morning if she has to. Now it’s passed it’s ages before a specific event where her absence would be really noteworthy, so now they can just say she’s having a break.
ShirleyPhallus · 14/11/2021 09:42

My grandmother got to a ripe old age and put her back out from doing nothing. At that age her bones were quite frail and had started almost crumbling and she was getting quite regular, minor fractures.

It’s very possible that this is the truth!

Yes I feel the same. She is well past the average life expectancy in this country for a woman and although it will be a massive loss to the country when she dies, it is going to happen. Probably within the next 5 years.

Philip had the option of stepping back from public life and taking it relatively easy for the last few years of his life. The Queen has always said she has no intention of doing likewise. I do hope she's OK though, she must be quite ill to miss Remembrance day.

KenAdams · 14/11/2021 09:42

I hope so @Spaghettio.

I thought hip replacement which they won't want to publicise due to current NHS wait times for the general public, but either way, I hope they are forcing her to take it easy.

I think the next one is the Christmas Day church service at Sandringham, so she's got over a month to rest up.
