Queen to miss Rememberance Day service

As she has apparently sprained her back.

I do wish the Palace would be honest about her health (without giving details) rather than setting her up to attend events that they know she won't be at. It can't be good for her, they should just say she's out for a while, which at her age would be completely understandable.

If it really was a sprained back and she wanted to attend she could have sat down during it and then be whisked away when it was over. I don't buy it all.

VladmirsPoutine · 14/11/2021 10:13

I hope she makes it at least until next June Smile

That said, nobody should be doing anything more that resting at 95! Even for someone who's never lifted a finger should be extended the grace of being left to relax at 95!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 14/11/2021 10:15

I'm be very sorry if Boris Johnson is the one who gets to lead the county in mourning when the inevitable happens

I get the point, but find it helps to think in terms of the position rather than its occupant
We could hardly avoid the PM speaking up at such a time, so all we can hope is that he makes a decent job of it and keeps his own behaviour off the front pages ... not that there'll be room for anything else except the "big event"

Sarcobaleno · 14/11/2021 10:16

I don't believe she's not going for a strained back. She is the most stoical, dutiful person. She'd be there in a wheelchair and doped with painkillers. There's more to this.

MrsFin · 14/11/2021 10:16

@BalloonSlayer

Private Eye's "flunky" ( Palace leaker) say that she has just got an infection that's proving difficult to shift. They imply a urine infection. Which is why she is well enough to do zoom calls from home but not long visits.
A lot of old ladies have underlying urine infections because they "leak" quite a bit. She did have 4 children.
Vapeyvapevape · 14/11/2021 10:17

The Queen is very kyphotic now , so back pain isn’t unusual.

@JudgeRindersMinder - I agree, it will be a terrible shock for the country when she does go, even if some people pretend to be quite nonchalant about it. It will be Diana all over again X 10, I think.

It really won’t be. She’s 95. How much of a shock can it possibly be. Will be sad but she’s a very old lady: people are hardly going to be weeping and wailing like they did with Diana

I hope someone persuades him to buy a suit that fits, gets his shirt ironed and combs his hair. He really needs a valet to sort him out, it would be worth tax payers money to stop him making the UK a laughing stock, well it probably wouldn't stop us being a laughing stock but having a PM who looks like Benny Hill really isn't great.
thecatsthecats · 14/11/2021 10:20

Her mother lived much longer, but then her husband died when she was much younger too.

If I were the Queen, I'd be going for the long game - taking it very carefully for a few months of rest and recuperation. Going through a cycle of trying to get well enough for a specific event isn't working. She'd be better off taking herself off to the country for six months.

Pinkfairylights · 14/11/2021 10:20

Bless her.

TheFairyCaravan · 14/11/2021 10:21

She won’t have said she be at the Cenotaph if there wasn’t a strong chance that she would be. The Remembrance Sunday commemorations is something she doesn’t miss unless there’s a very good reason.

Whatever’s making her poorly, sprained back or otherwise, I hope she’s better soon.

Sparklingbrook · 14/11/2021 10:21

I think standing around for ages in the cold and placing the wreath isn't something you'd want to be doing at 95 with a bad back, sounds understandable to me. Presumably it would mean an early start too.

It sometimes feels like everyone's rubbing their hands waiting for something to happen or be announced...

lollipoprainbow · 14/11/2021 10:22

@Sarcobaleno I agree it must be something serious to make her miss her beloved remembrance Sunday.

nettie434 · 14/11/2021 10:23

There is no cover up to being told that a 95 year year old person is not up to attending an event in which they were meant to play a major role.

We know the Queen does not believe in abdication. We know that the Remembrance Sunday service is incredibly important to her. I just assumed she had hoped to attend but when it came to it, she realised that it was too much for her. In addition, although it's outside, I think the suggestion up thread that a sprained back is less political than saying 'risk of covid' makes sense to me.

MrsFin · 14/11/2021 10:24

Her mother lived much longer, but then her husband died when she was much younger too.

Not that much longer. Wasn't the QM 101 when she died?

lollipoprainbow · 14/11/2021 10:24

@Sparklingbrook she hasn't laid a wreath for a couple of years now, she watches from the balcony.

TroysMammy · 14/11/2021 10:24

Frequently trotted out on Mumsnet "your health is no ones business but your own". Even though she is our Queen this smacks of double standards.

User5632986 · 14/11/2021 10:25

Would there be a high risk of covid on the balcony where she was going to be, isn't it just the RF up there

christmastreeupalready · 14/11/2021 10:25

I think she's on the way out, my grandma and the queen share the same birthday and are the same age. I don't think my grandma has much time left either.

I wouldn't be surprised if an announcement is on the way.

She wasn't ever going to stand and lay the wreath, she was going to watch from a balcony while Prince Charles laid the wreath. She could easily have been sitting for that.

Definitely something else going on here.

irisetta · 14/11/2021 10:27

Sorry, that was intended in reply to @Sparklingbrook !

Great. She could have stood on the balcony in the cold with a bad back then...

lollipoprainbow · 14/11/2021 10:28

I don't think her death is imminent as she was seen driving around last week, that doesn't imply she is at deaths door but I do think she is more poorly then they are letting on.

The Tories will waste no opportunity to whip up a culture war.
