Embarrassing crush on my electrician

gelatodipistacchio · 11/11/2021 22:27

He is lovely and sweet and has been very friendly and interested seeming in a way that is probably just professional.

He just finished a job (which requires some follow up) and wrote this:

(...) Please don’t hesitate to get in touch at any time and as many times you want if you got questions. We’ll keep in touch

I'm naturally prim and proper. I feel that any overture I could make (like suggesting a coffee???) would be exceptionally awkward and similar to a gross dude who hits on his cocktail waitress.

What to do, what to do?

Life is too short. Just say 'I want to have sex, do you?'. Then see what he comes back with.

gelatodipistacchio · 19/11/2021 14:16

@TheFormidableMrsC oh, dear! Did it end in tears???

I think this sounds promising. Now, OP, as people have suggested, talk a bit more next time, ask about his personal life/hobbies in a natural way. (Did you have a nice weekend? What did you get up to?) You’ll find out if he has a partner pretty quickly, and can reassess. If he asks about you, it’s a good sign he likes you back.

Take it slow. If you genuinely have more electrical work to do, take advantage of getting that done and/or recommending him to family or friend who need work done. I’ve done this and got thank you texts.

If you create the opportunities, you’ll see if he wants to take advantage of them or not. Just remember, if he’s a decent guy, he probably doesn’t want to come in to a female client and have her complain about him, so he will probably want strong signals you like him before he does something

gelatodipistacchio · 19/11/2021 14:40

@junglejane66 just to be clear, I'm ridiculously shy and proper. I can't even imagine what I could do or say which would be inappropriate, because I am incapable of overtly flirting with a service provider.

@LifeAdvice perfect username! This all seems sound, and not overly embarrassing to deploy

No not at all. It was a long term "friends with benefits" situation that suited us both at the time. I remain very fond of him!

FWIW, I think you should try and give this a go. I would try to establish that's he's single first though. Good luck!

Noshowlomo · 19/11/2021 15:26

Well I am excited ...!

gelatodipistacchio · 19/11/2021 22:25

Further light googling stalking suggests he's in a relationship, and probably inappropriately young.

Ah well, the fantasy was fun while it lasted.

OP posts:
gelatodipistacchio · 19/11/2021 22:26

He probably thought, oh, nice older lady doesn't mind my coming around for my assessment ShockBlushGrin

JMAngel1 · 20/11/2021 08:47

Awww no!! I'm crushed for you😥

gelatodipistacchio · 20/11/2021 14:03

He's here now. He's so dreamy!

OP posts:
Whingasaurus · 20/11/2021 14:08

You need to ask if he is single. Ask if him and his wife are spending Christmas at home this year? Ask if he has children?. The worst that happens is you look slightly interested and he makes it clear he's not and the best is he responds single what about you? And you're good to go then.

IslaInthesun · 20/11/2021 14:44

Ask him if he's spending Christmas with his girlfriend.

Oh! You're single? I thought a handsome man like you would have been snapped up

Etc Wink

hoomama · 20/11/2021 16:17

Ooh yes,

Agree with what PP said!
Definitely just ask him what he's up to for Christmas! Perfectly normal question and that way you will have all of your answers!

ItsDisneyBitch · 20/11/2021 16:49

Oh god is it my husband because he ‘lost’ his wedding ring recently.

ItsDisneyBitch · 20/11/2021 16:52

‘Further light googling stalking suggests he's in a relationship, and probably inappropriately young.’

Oh definitely not my husband. He is an old fucker.

LitCrit · 20/11/2021 17:26

Yes 'Gosh so dark already, christmas round the corner i guess. What do you and your other half generally do for Christmas - travel to the parents/in laws? '

EH VOILA

gelatodipistacchio · 20/11/2021 18:03

Oops, I was too afraid to ask about his Christmas/girlfriend/life.

He has left now.

He asked a few times "when will I see you again," BUT he is Romanian (speaks excellent English, has been here for 15 years) and it was said in the context of works he is doing.

He also asked a couple of times if he should come to my house to get the key for his exam. (I politely just gave him the key now)

When it was time to go we chatted a bit and I felt like he was really enjoying it (?) It came up that I'm American, and he seemed excited about this fact (he said he's never met an American before (???)).

I still feel extremely attracted to him and excited to have him come complete some related projects. It's so odd. I NEVER feel attracted to strangers but it's like he's magnetic.

OP posts:
gelatodipistacchio · 20/11/2021 18:05

*though he speaks excellent English, perhaps he doesn't fully get the connotation - to me, "when will I see you again" seems like something that you would almost always say when it's about wanting to see the person!

OP posts:
Laiste · 20/11/2021 18:12

What gave you the impression that he's not single OP?

Did you find him on FB?

And - sorry for all Q's - what's the age gap?

:)

gelatodipistacchio · 20/11/2021 18:29

I found him on social media and it appears he has a long term partner

However, I just found the apparent partner's FB and it looks like she lives in Kent - though a lot of her photos from 1.5 years ago and later look like loved up photos of them. Many of her photos include a toddler. So that's confusing/potentially troubling.

He lives in East London.

Not sure how old he is. Could be from about 31 to early 40s. I'm 41 but everyone thinks I'm early 30s based on appearance.

OP posts:
gelatodipistacchio · 20/11/2021 18:30

He doesn't appear to be on Facebook

OP posts:
Glassofshloer · 20/11/2021 18:34

@PAFMO

How inappropriate. Would you be gushing had someone you didn't find attractive had sent such a message? Do you think it was a front cover of a novel lurve thing or that he tries to get his rocks off with all his clients?
Haha! Lighten up you fun sponge

Place marking! I would find another job to be done in the house so you can ask a few suss questions, then if he appears single drop him a chatty text afterwards that he can respond to, get a conversation going. Good luck!

StellarDella · 20/11/2021 18:50

No offence but he's clearly eyed you up as a soft target and will be fleecing you.

TotallyWipedout · 20/11/2021 19:01

If you see him again, OP, you could quite reasonably ask him if he has children. I've had builders, electricians, plumbers etc in my house for the past 8 months or so, and asking about children is pretty safe ground. As a result of this, I know the marital status of all of them (have in fact had chapter and verse from all of them about their marriage breakdowns, first wives, current partners - you name it, they've told me).

I don't fancy any of them even the tiniest speck, though.

(FWIW, I would steer clear of the one you're describing).
