Just that really

What age would you think did this drawing?

My DS just isn’t arty and did pictures like that until …well always actually. Now at uni studying chemistry- perfectly happy. Just not arty …so what?!

PinkSyCo · 11/11/2021 23:06

Around 10?

user1481840227 · 11/11/2021 23:06

@NowWhatUsernameShallIHave

I don’t think he’s a genuis in fact I’m concerned that it’s rather immature but as I don’t have anything to compare it against hence why I am asking
Would that really tell you anything?

Art is one of those things that many people aren't that 'good' at, they don't have the natural talent or they don't have an interest in learning the skills to improve it so it's not something that everyone keeps improving in year after year once they get past a young age.

My son is 16 and I doubt he would draw any better. I doubt I would either tbh as I never really liked drawing!

Derbee · 11/11/2021 23:06

The writing is quite neat, and the colouring is neat, but the drawings aren’t very good. So all in all I’d guess 7, but not a talent for drawing.

ElephantOfRisk · 11/11/2021 23:12

OP, i'd say that was a bit immature for an 11 year old, however, there is a big range in drawing ability. DS1 could have produced something like that at a fairly young age, about 6 ish. DS2 would have produced similar at 11 tbh.

Art is not his forte. He was diagnosed with dyspraxia at 17 and struggled with fine detail.

DH has no such issues and wold produce a similar picture as a grown adult.

Chakraleaf · 11/11/2021 23:13

Didn't read all messages , came to say 10?

Silverswirl · 11/11/2021 23:15

You are one of those people who think the worst right away - unless there is something in my OP to say that I’m have a genius or I’m so proud (there isn’t and I’m not) stop jumping to conclusions and assuming everyone is here for clout.

No it’s not a stealth boast

It was done by an 11 year old who is currently being assessed for being on the spectrum[/quote]
I was just thinking a 10 year old boy with ASD. It leaps out at me straight away.

Turtletotem · 11/11/2021 23:19

My guess would be 10

TableFlowerss · 11/11/2021 23:19

6? It’s very good and they can draw far better than 40’s me!

TableFlowerss · 11/11/2021 23:23

The thing is, it’s a good drawing. I see he’s 11. I say this as the mother of a child who is really artistic and at 6 could draw much better than most adults.

On the offer have I’ve DC 2 is a similar age to your ds and no way could Dc2 draw as well as your ds.

Thighdentitycrisis · 11/11/2021 23:23

5-7

Wellshellsbells · 11/11/2021 23:32

I thought 11 before I read the posts. I’m surprised at all the age 6 or 7 answers!

DancyNancy · 11/11/2021 23:34

I have twins who are almost 6. One could have drawn this but the other couldn't

BSideBaby · 11/11/2021 23:34

8, or a 12 year old who's pissed off because they've been forced to make a Christmas card.

gulliblestravels · 11/11/2021 23:36

I’d say about ten

Missmissmiiiiiiiiisss · 11/11/2021 23:38

7

WorriedMama101 · 11/11/2021 23:42

OP - I've just seen your reply (aged 11). I would have said around 8-10! My daughters drawings look similar x

GrandmasCat · 11/11/2021 23:42

It is the standard that my 18 year old would produce, mind you he could multiply by 12 at 3 but was not able (or interested) to draw a closed shape until he was about 6.

Autism runs in my family and in DS’ dad’s family. DS just has slow hands (dyspraxia has been suggested)

RobertaFirmino · 11/11/2021 23:48

Drawing is not a skill that everyone has. Some people (of all ages) are fantastic, others not so much. FWIW @NowWhatUsernameShallIHave I think it's rather charming!

BungleandGeorge · 11/11/2021 23:51

I’d have said around 10. Looks age appropriate for 11 to me. What concerned you about it?

KingDangerMouse · 11/11/2021 23:55

46

howmanyhats · 11/11/2021 23:55

I haven't read past the first page. I think it's an older child who isn't so great at art. The writing is neat and The stick figures have personality.

Maybe 10 or 11?

LightDrizzle · 11/11/2021 23:55

5

OP trained primary teacher here. On its own, it wouldn’t worry me that an 11 yr old did this. The present is carefully drawn etc. The only part of that might concern me is the figure. I am not an art therapist, but it speaks to me for some reason.
