Anybody listen to Podcasts?

AnonyMum21 · 09/11/2021 11:55

Please can you suggest some to me please? Interested in all sorts of topics…

And also - (sorry I’m very new to this) - how/what device do you use to listen to them?
I’m doing some long walks and don’t really like audiobooks. Like the idea of being able to listen both at home and while out
Thank you

I listen to podcasts on Spotify and just recently on audible as well. On Spotify I like This podcast will kill you - about diseases which is very interesting.

Audible I've been listening to Stephen Frys secret victorian's and edwardian's.

Thecatisboss · 09/11/2021 12:00

Sorry forgot to say I listen to them on my phone.

Stellaris22 · 09/11/2021 12:03

Are you interested in fiction? I find BBC Lovecraft Investigations fascinating, and Welcome to Nightvale is brilliant.

Listen to them a lot - through BBC Sounds, Spotify and the Podcasts app on my phone.

VanCleefArpels · 09/11/2021 12:05

I listen to loads via the podcast app on my iPhone.

For politics: For the Many

For good chat: The Mid Point

For good quirky though provoking stories: This American Life

Loads of true crime stuff that I enjoy too.

CoodleMoodle · 09/11/2021 12:06

I like comedy podcasts, mostly:

Parenting Hell
Life's a Beach
My Mate Bought A Toaster
Seven Pillars

I also like the Taskmaster podcast, which only works if you watch it obviously! There's loads of ones like that though, that go through episodes of TV shows in depth.

Mine are all fairly lowbrow but I love them! I listen via Spotify, but they're also available on Amazon Music if you have Prime.

Battersea poltergeist and Uncanny - both by Danny Robbins - are very good.

Although they are stories (with multiple voice actors rather than just a narrator) QCODE do some reasonable podcasts. I liked Ghost Tape and Borrasca.

Mamamamasaurus · 09/11/2021 12:11

I use Spotify on my phone and use Bluetooth wireless earphones

  • Drunk Women Solving Crime
  • No holes barred
  • Graveyard Tales
  • And this is why we drink
  • Dark History (Bailey Sarian)
  • Let's not meet
  • Strange and Unexplained with Daisy Egan
  • Death in the afternoon
  • No such thing as a Fish
  • Complete Drivel
  • You are being Unreasonable
  • Superstitions
  • Stories with Sapphire
  • Mothboys
  • Internet urban legends
dayswithaY · 09/11/2021 12:12

I discovered them by using the purple icon on my iPhone. I'm a true crime fan so I've pretty much exhausted all those.

I also like:

You're wrong about
You are good
Criminal (some true crime but mainly quirky real life stories)
Lets Not Meet (creepy)
Not just the Tudors

Fieldings15 · 09/11/2021 12:12

I like 'no such thing as a fish' random facts/comedy. I listen on their website on my phone (no need to download an app) while I'm doing the washing up!

crispinglovershighkick · 09/11/2021 12:15

My favourite cheerful and fun podcasts are the tv series rewatch ones. A friend and fellow Sopranos fan recommended Talking Sopranos which I love, and I also listen to Office Ladies. I don't know why I love them so much, I find them excellent company on long walks, and covid has meant a lot of comfort rewatching of favourite series so they feel relevant in that way. There is a lot of mindless chatter but it makes me feel like a fly on the wall, I find it very relaxing.

Milomonster · 09/11/2021 12:16

This Jungian Life is phenomenal if you like psychology. It’s really helped me to understand a lot of situations.
Modern Love. Many of the episodes are incredibly beautiful and moving.

KeflavikAirport · 09/11/2021 12:43

A history of the world in 100 objects is just the best most interesting series ever.

DaxtheDestroyer · 09/11/2021 12:52

Huge fan of No such thing as a fish, I listen and re-listen to them all the time. Going to the live show soon, can't wait!
Also really enjoy
You're dead to me (history by Greg Jenner who is the historian on horrible histories)
More or less (statistics and numbers)
Something rhymes with Purple (words and language)
Shrine of duty (accompanies Line of duty episodes but they have such wonderful Irish accents I could listen all day)
Taskmaster podcast (accompanies taskmaster tv show)

SinisterBumFacedCat · 09/11/2021 13:40

I love them!

True crime - Redhanded, Sinisterhood, Murder Most Irish, The Apology Line, To Live and Die in LA, Ballad of Billy Balls, Finding Cleo, Shreds, Bear Brook, Over My Dead Body.

History- Real Dictators, Nobel Blood, Your Dead to Me

Miscellaneous - British Scandal, Your Wrong About, Trashy Divorces, Heavyweight, This is Actually Happening

Keladrythesaviour · 09/11/2021 13:42

I use BBC sounds and love The Food Programme. All 30minutes and a total mixture of lightweight chef interviews, fascinating food insights and hard hitting issues regarding the environment, food chain and harrassment in the work place (to name but a few). Love it.

ThePenIsBlue · 09/11/2021 14:06

I like listening to all sorts - psychology ones, parenting ones, music ones, history ones. My favourite atm is 80sography. It used to be on different bands from the 80s but is now interviews with the producers/writers. It’s fab if you’re interested in that kind of thing - the guy who does it asks all the questions you would ask yourself!

bonfireheart · 09/11/2021 14:13

Starcaller · 09/11/2021 14:19

BIWI · 09/11/2021 14:23

I listen to them on my phone, with headphones.

PurrBox · 09/11/2021 14:23

S Town
This American Life

StormyCornishSeas · 09/11/2021 17:42

Something Rhymes with purple- Giles Brandwith & Susie Dent talk about the origin of words.

My dad wrote a porno. Very funny don't listen to if you have kids in the room but hilarious and not always for the right reasons.

Shagged, Married annoyed- Chris and Rosie Ramsey talk about life again very funny

AhhWoof · 09/11/2021 17:50
