Last week end in November when the real trees go on sale here!!

cherrypiepie · 04/11/2021 17:30

First weekend in December

LyraVega · 04/11/2021 17:30

I do mine at the very end of November or early December but my opposite neighbours have their lights up already which made me smile Smile and when I was driving home from work earlier someone was putting their lights up on the outside of their house further down our road.

Hurray, I love when these threads start each year, it means it's all sort of beginning! We decorate over the first weekend in December each year, which is what we've always done since I was a child. It works fine for real or fake tree and always feels like we have plenty of time to enjoy it without getting fed up with it.

MadisonAvenue · 04/11/2021 17:33

Usually the first weekend in December.

hopeishere · 04/11/2021 17:34

Second weekend in December. I'd prefer the third but DH and the kids overrule me.

I hate seeing trees up in November.

merryhouse · 04/11/2021 17:34

Mid-December.

When I was a child it was always the Saturday before Christmas Day -unless that was actually Christmas Eve, in which case the previous Saturday. We were possibly on the later side of normal. Down on the 6th of January, in line with most of our neighbours.

I tried to stick to that but it was starting to seem grumpy and joyless, so we landed on the weekend of or after S1's birthday (the 12th). Still take them down on 6th January but invariably spend three or four days feeling like total outliers.

We do have an advent calendar and advent ring.

Kljnmw3459 · 04/11/2021 17:35

I'm thinking 1st December this year.

rslsys · 04/11/2021 17:35

After lunch on Christmas Eve and down again after breakfast on Boxing Day. Bah Humbug 🎅🏻

ILiedAboutBeingTheOutdoorType · 04/11/2021 17:35

First or second week in December

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 04/11/2021 17:36

My DCs birthday is on 11 December. The decorations go up on the Sunday following 11 December (which this year happens to be Sunday 12 December) which is known as "Tree Up Sunday" in our house!

Rockbird · 04/11/2021 17:39

1st weekend in December. However, am eyeing up my big hedge out front with a view to covering it in lights this weekend as I bloody love fairy lights.

Twospaniels · 04/11/2021 17:40

Mid December at the very earliest.

I get fed up of them quickly and can’t wait to get them down the day after boxing day, but we often have new year’s day visitors so I have to keep them up til 2 Jan.

I feel all cluttered with them up and like dust is gathering.

UndeadSlut · 04/11/2021 17:43

First weekend in December. It's a lovely day and I absolutely can't wait for it to happen this year!

WeeTattieBogle · 04/11/2021 17:44

No more than a week before Christmas depending on which day of the week Christmas Day is and it’s left up till the 6th or so.

TeenMinusTests · 04/11/2021 17:48

Normally the last day of term as I can't cope with school and decorations.
However this year DD breaks up from college a whole week before Christmas so that seems a bit early, so maybe the 22 Dec or so.
we then leave them up to the day before term starts or 6th whichever is earlier.

Outside lights switched on towards the end of Nov to coincide with town lights. They then stay until ~ Feb half term.

HunterAngel · 04/11/2021 17:53

Decorations go up December 1st at the very earliest and come down January 1st. That’s the maximum I can tolerate!

Pinkbonbon · 04/11/2021 17:54

Middle of December usually. Sometimes the start and sometimes not until the week before.

ABCeasyasdohrayme · 04/11/2021 17:55

2 weeks on Sunday, it always goes up on that date as its special for our family. I get fed up of it really soon after Xmas though so it's usually down a couple of days after Xmas.

Ironicpentameter · 04/11/2021 17:56

DS2 birthday is 13 so it’s always the following weekend. However, in these rather depressing times, I like to see others start putting them up any time from now - makes me 😊

MarcelineMissouri · 04/11/2021 17:58

Last weekend of November for us although dh will start the outside lights the weekend before. We have a LOT of decorations!

BoredPandas · 04/11/2021 18:00

This year it’ll be 27th/28th November.

whiteonesugar · 04/11/2021 18:02

Some people putting lights up now might be for Diwali.

We put ours up first week of December usually but some decorations start creeping in from mid November as I’m basically Buddy the Elf.

SarahAndQuack · 04/11/2021 18:03

I put decorations up all through Advent but the tree gets decorated on the 24th while we listen to Nine Lessons and Carols. This year it'll be 23rd because we're out on the 24th. I always thought my mum did it on the 24th to make it very special and atmospheric. Turns out she was just frazzled. Grin

DentalWorries · 04/11/2021 18:06

27th of December here, even have it written in my diary Grin
We make an evening out of it, crack open a bottle of champagne, have some M&S nibbles and play Christmas music.
