Why are the Tories so great?!

Answers such as 'there's no one better' or 'would you prefer Kier or Nigel' aren't answers.

I see no benefits at all to having the current government we have, all I see is a bunch of self serving elitist willy waving boys who care only about the wealthy.

How are they voted in over and over and why has no one else stepped up that has morals and can actually do something good?

OP posts:
Gettingthereslowly2020 · 04/11/2021 15:40

Well they are great if you're wealthy and lack a moral compass

Gettingthereslowly2020 · 04/11/2021 15:41

Jeremy Corbyn did step up but people preferred Boris because he has funny hair

Theunamedcat · 04/11/2021 15:43

Because we don't have compulsory voting (with a none of the above box)

Because we don't have a credible opposition

Because people prefer to spoil there ballots

Because they have always voted that way why should they change

Because despite the fact that they don't really respect or protect women Labour/libdems/greens don't respect or protect women more

Yes, that's right. It was nothing at all to do with JC's many and documented failings and his incompetent lackeys. It was the hair what won it Hmm
MissConductUS · 04/11/2021 15:44

Conservative vs liberal political views are driven more by psychological factors than issues.

These key psychological differences can determine whether you're liberal or conservative

bothjetplanes · 04/11/2021 15:45

Because they have always voted that way why should they change

Oh come on, this just isn't true anymore. One of the changes in voter behaviour is that people are moving away from voting as they always did.

This! Also because so many people prefer posh Eton twats, I think they assume “posh” equals intelligent. Dear God they got that wrong!!!
EnrouteNOTonroute · 04/11/2021 15:49

Because at the last election labour were in no position to govern the country.

Stellaris22 · 04/11/2021 15:49

Because the media is powerful and convinced people Corbyn was dangerous.

Because people want to protect their wealth rather than caring about education, NHS etc.

Because people think ‘clapping for the NHS’ negates the underfunding.

Yusanaim · 04/11/2021 15:50

I don't doubt they look after their friends if the opportunity arises but if that was ALLthey did all the time as many on here insist no one would vote for them. They are more likely to encourage business and therefore jobs which is the basis

Yusanaim · 04/11/2021 15:52

There is a prime example above my last post - you can't give money to the nhs without making it somewhere first. That's the prob with the left - they believe in a magic money tree.

Poetrypatty · 04/11/2021 15:52

Does anyone think they're great Confused I doubt it. People didn't like Corbyn because he seemed worse. I think the next election things will look different, given all of the corruption and all the wasted money on PPE contracts and things like low pay and the Universal Credit cut. Voters will only take so much before they'll consider switching sides, especially as Labour are moving to the centre now and Tories towards the far right.

I'll just leave this here.

They win because the wealthy , those who want to be wealthy and pensioners vote them in as they believe they will protect their assets. Younger generations don’t bother voting.

You mean the magic money tree for test and trace?
WallaceinAnderland · 04/11/2021 15:57

I will vote for anyone who doesn't publicly state that they support the dismantling of women's rights and safeguarding for all. That's it.

bothjetplanes · 04/11/2021 15:59

This is why Corbynites could not persuade people to vote for them. You can't win people over by so clearly showing your contempt for them.
eddiemairswife · 04/11/2021 16:01

Because we live in an age where celebrities are venerated and Boris fits the bill, having been funny on Have I Got News For You.

Narutocrazyfox · 04/11/2021 16:01

I imagine a great many voted them in as a protest vote against Labour. This is certainly what I will do at the next GE.

But apparently the Tories found the magic money tree? It was growing in their mates back yard.
sashagabadon · 04/11/2021 16:04

I think it’s because they stand on the side of keeping things as they are, “conserving” things and most people like their lives as they are. Not everyone of course. And as you get older there is more incentive to keep things the same as you own a home , are building a pension etc and don’t want that all to come crashing down. So you become more conservative (small c) too. You probably also start to like “traditional” values more, see the benefits of the family structure etc and so progressive left wing ideas like “defund the police” go down like a lead balloon. I think labours policies on say gender ideology are also turning off huge numbers of the electorate in particular women. People like Boris too no matter what the press tell us. An evening class I attend had everyone agreeing they liked him a purple of night ago which surprised me. A couple had no clue who Keir was. Ancedotal but I was Confused

RepentBirthingPersonFucker · 04/11/2021 16:05

I think the comments that the Labour Party hate the group who should be their core vote is true. They seem to despise working class people. Women too
They are about middle class identity politics now
I don't think there is a party for women or for the working class

HopeYourHighHorseBucks · 04/11/2021 16:07

Wealthier people/groups appeal to certain type of people. As long as they can convince the public that the alternative group are bad and are coming for their money, are preparing more dinghies etc they can stay in power, no matter the scandals, failings and frankly criminal dealings.

x2boys · 04/11/2021 16:09

Because labour are still not understanding ,that being contemptuous to people who don't agree with them ,ain't going to win them around

dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby · 04/11/2021 16:09

Because they are 'pragmatic' rather than 'dogmatic' and do actually value freedom of speech.
