I saw it on twitter this morning because it was trending at 8am when it was launched, but I just had a fairly long scroll through my timeline and no one is talking about it now. Not trending anymore either.

I'd say that's a bit of a blow for them. They usually get a lot more social media traction than that, even if people are fairly divided between loving it and hating it. This one just doesn't seem make much impression at all.

I liked it but thought it was a bit short and rushed for a John Lewis advert. Sure in previous years their adverts have been longer.

I thought that too. Makes me wonder if there was something that they hastily took out given the response to the reception the destructive boy in the frock ad got.

It's meh. Also made me feel a bit uncomfortable that this young boy seems smitten with a (presumably much older) alien woman. Certainly doesn't pull on the heartstrings.

I wonder if JL have stopped using focus groups for their advertising campaigns. Seem really off the mark lately.

Both actors are indeed 14 but you only know that if you take the time to Google. If you just go by the advert then there is no way you would think they were the same age, she looks much older than him so it's a fair criticism to say that he appears to be smitten with a much older girl.

It's not officially Christmas at all, OP. Haven't seen the ad but I couldn't care less. They only want your money.

I loved the ginger cat playing with the decs...more of that and less of the aliens/humans for me, please.

I laughed when I heard the song because a MNer (I think) wrote a predicted sypopsis of the 2019 JL Christmas advert that had 'a breathy cover of Together in Electric Dreams'!

I really liked it - and I HATED their home insurance ad.

Loved the two main characters. Great acting. Really gets across the joy of Christmas and the messages of the season - kindness, goodwill to all people, sharing...

Brought a treat to my eye.

If you're going to do an alien landing at Christmas advert, don't do it just two years after Sky produced an ET follow up signed off by Steven Spielberg... (the four minute version is even better)

I might be overthinking this, but I thought the boy was too young to be involved in such a serious relationship. Especially the keeping it secret and hiding from his family etc. It was creepy. Then the tagline made it creepier still.

Yep. I thought he was about 10, so the whole relationship with her was creepy and uncomfortable to me. And I'm not that quick to be creeped out.

1/10 for me. Weird and no warmth to it.

Well I've had the song in my head all day, but generally found it a bit meh....I think they have had their day. As it turns out my favourite wasn't for Christmas but was the Billy Joel always a woman little girl through to old later which I thought was perfect and on brand.
The "alien/girl" reminds me of the childlike empress from the Neverending Story

What is happening at JL? Who the hell is in charge. They have completely off the reservation. Why have we had 2 ads with sexualised kids? Just why? Someone needs a shake.

I wonder if it's the same sexual deviant director who was in charge of that god awful home insurance ad did this one too?

i still love this Marks and Spencer one from 2003. I remember it really well. Shocking that its 18 years ago.
