@SpookyScarySkeletons

They have just shown it on GMB.

I actually really liked it and yes did shed a tear at the end. I cry at all of them though. Even the McDonald's one had me in floods last year!

Same! NOTHING will ever make me cry like last years SuperValu one though. I can cry even thinking about it Blush
Sparklingbrook · 04/11/2021 07:54

I'm never sure why the aim of a Christmas advert is to make people cry Grin

Whinge · 04/11/2021 07:54

That was brilliant, the only other one that reduces me to tears is the Sainsburys Christmas truce advert from 2014.

Maerchentante · 04/11/2021 07:55

I'm a bit meh about the advert but would buy the jumper if it wasn't out of stock.

Favourite JL Christmas Adverts: Monty the Penguin and Edgar the Dragon, closely followed by the old Man on the Moon - that one makes me cry every single time.

Sparklingbrook · 04/11/2021 07:55

@Mummyoflittledragon

Definitely not up to their usual standard. I agree the budget will have been well and truly spent on the insurance one, which the power of mumsnet amongst others managed to get removed. Cackle Wink
I'm not sure that pulled insurance advert would have required a massive budget TBF.
sashh · 04/11/2021 07:56

@GoodnightGrandma

Can’t see it on You Tube. Anyone got a link ?
check the other JL thread, there is a link there.

Am I the only one a little disturbed at an 11 year old boy spending so much time in the woods and the parents not asking what is going on?

Whinge · 04/11/2021 07:57

Apparenly he's 14, but I wouldn't have known it from the advert.

This year's Christmas advert is the magical tale of 14-year-old Nathan, who discovers an Unexpected Guest and space traveller, Skye, has landed in the woods beside his home.

FlibbertyGiblets · 04/11/2021 07:58

I thought it quite sweet.

Dahliadelight · 04/11/2021 08:01

Oh i liked it! Had an 80s vibe about it.

PinkWaferBiscuit · 04/11/2021 08:02

According to their website he is actually 14, although he doesn't look it and I agree its creepy.

If it was a 14 year old girl disappearing off to meet a strange alien man in the woods, not telling anyone about it sneaking around and keeping it a secret then everyone would be pointing out how inappropriate the concept was.

Froppysue · 04/11/2021 08:02

It was ok, not great, not bad either.
I can’t place the two young actors but I’ve definitely seen them both somewhere before and it’s annoying me lol.

LadyCatStark · 04/11/2021 08:04

It’s definitely a Stranger Things rip off.

PermanentTemporary · 04/11/2021 08:05

God i like the idea of a child having a bit of life away from the house tbh. I spent hours in the woods as a kid.

That trampoline one has ended me [orders large ribbon wreath and a box of hankies]

PenguinIce · 04/11/2021 08:05

I liked it but thought it was a bit short and rushed for a John Lewis advert. Sure in previous years their adverts have been longer.

DietrichandDiMaggio · 04/11/2021 08:05

@Whinge

Thanks for the link Sparkling

So it is just a jumper with a tree on it, and a pretty expensive one at that.

Will people really spend £30 on that? Confused

I would say £30 was quite cheap for a JL women's Christmas jumper.
PokemonGoGoGo · 04/11/2021 08:05

@Starpleck

It didn't feel overly festive, not sure of the message either really. Surely it would be better if the child brought the alien home rather than secretly meeting a stranger in the woods without any adult noticing Confused
This was all I could think of too!

I’ve clearly worked in the NHS too long when a Christmas Ad makes me concerned about safeguarding!

beastlyslumber · 04/11/2021 08:06

I might be overthinking this, but I thought the boy was too young to be involved in such a serious relationship. Especially the keeping it secret and hiding from his family etc. It was creepy. Then the tagline made it creepier still.

InglouriousBasterd · 04/11/2021 08:07

Oh I love that!

PinkWaferBiscuit · 04/11/2021 08:08

I'm not suggesting he just stays home but I'm pretty sure there's a huge difference between hanging out in the woods and going to the woods to meet up with a strange alien women and not telling anyone. Grin

Glad I'm not the only one who thought that was a bit weird!

Me too! They all have me in tears though. Not sure if it's my overwhelming love of Christmas or my HRT patches not working Blush
MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 04/11/2021 08:09

The alternate one is better…

BaggingAria · 04/11/2021 08:10

He's 14?! Maybe I'm getting old but I assumed he was much younger. And the tag line, in that context, was a bit Confused.

After the last 18 months I just want a simple, straightforward, Slade-and-tinsel, Christmas this year.

TheRealHousewife · 04/11/2021 08:11

Actually I like it. The message is about connecting, sharing and being kind. ❤️ Brought a tear.

PinkWaferBiscuit · 04/11/2021 08:13

According to a quick Google both the lead actors are 14 in real life. He certainly looks a lot younger and she looks much older though so it does seem odd without any of the background knowledge.
