@RavingAnnie

Brilliant. Love it.

Haven't had one yet that beats the 2011 one though which made me sob the first time I watched it and gives me Christmassy goosebumps and a tear in my eye even now....

Awww I remember this one :)

So much better than this year’s attempt!

TheRealHousewife · 04/11/2021 09:06

@SolasAnla

*Actually I like it. The message is about connecting, sharing and being kind. ❤️ Brought a tear.
Is being kind about having sexual feelings?

Platonic kindness is a little more in the Christmas spirit*

I suppose it’s a bit like beauty, the interpretation is in the eye of the beholder.

TheRealHousewife · 04/11/2021 09:07

My bold didn’t work. Sorry.

SpookyScarySkeletons · 04/11/2021 09:08

I can't actually I can believe someone has already called it out for showing "sexual feelings"

It's a peck on the cheek between two 14yo's FGS.

starrynight87 · 04/11/2021 09:09

Too much like ET and not festive enough.

Will never top the little boy waiting to give his present.
I love it ! I’m blubbing now 😭😭😭
Rosehip10 · 04/11/2021 09:18

Shit, lazy ad.

CailleachO · 04/11/2021 09:20

What is happening at JL? Who the hell is in charge. They have completely off the reservation. Why have we had 2 ads with sexualised kids? Just why? Someone needs a shake.

Love this one!

I need to stop blubbing, get off mumsnet and get on with some work before I'm lost down a rabbit hole of Christmas adverts Shock

somewhereoverthechipshop · 04/11/2021 09:32

I thought it was quite cute and enjoyable. Not too sickly sweet like some of their ads.

RavingAnnie · 04/11/2021 09:40

@PermanentTemporary

Absolutely SOBBING *@RavingAnnie*.

Seeing out children behave unselfishly is the best of the best, hence this one got me too.

[Orders chestnuts and large garland plus more lights]

🥰
littlejalapeno · 04/11/2021 09:43

It’s not bad, perhaps nicely captures that part of adolescence of developing a separate life and being a bit old for Christmas magic but not wanting to give up on the bits you enjoy.

But strong ET, flight of the navigator, stranger things vibes which are not Christmassy at all, and a bit behind the trends…

The “spirit of Christmas” would’ve been better served if he’d invited the alien home, like a rip off of the Snowman instead.

jjj321 · 04/11/2021 09:45

It's not the worst (Elton, I'm looking at you) but not that great. Really liked the dragon in the medieval village, Moz the Monster and Monty the Penguin but this is not very festive and quite obscure.

Frankly, I'd prefer to watch ET as it has an epic bike chase scene.

viques · 04/11/2021 09:47

I rather liked it, and I wasted half an hour on the link they sent me to the game #goodatfindingstars.
Oh wow 😭😭 I love this 🥰🎄
GertrudeBElion · 04/11/2021 10:13

I liked it but then I tend to like any old shite nowadays Grin

Nothing will ever top the Long Wait one for me though I don't think

Halleshair · 04/11/2021 10:35

With that pale face, it's giving me Boy from Outer Space flashbacks 😟 😅

user64323 · 04/11/2021 10:43

I like it. It's nothing like ET?

queenofarles · 04/11/2021 10:47

Sad not a fan,
For me it’s still the penguin and man on the moon Ads ,

Cant watch them without 😭

Legoisthebest · 04/11/2021 11:33

It hasn't really given me any ideas of what to spend the £150 voucher I got given on. I've looked at their website and they don't really have anything in the toy department that my daughter has asked for. Do they do Nintendo stuff? Books? There might have been some in the ad but because you have to concentrate on the 'story' you don't really notice what products are there.
I think John Lewis should - instead of spending gazillions on these ads - should spend the money on printed catalogues and post them to every home in the country. Then you actually get to see what they actually sell. Cos unless you live in a city or very large town it's likely you would never go to a branch and be aware of what they sell.
(Before anyone says "they sell everything" they actually don't. They are a department store but don't sell every type of product out there. No retailer sells 'everything'. I actually have no clue if they have a book department for example)

FrenchBulldogsareFab · 04/11/2021 11:38

Will I buy imported tat I don't need after viewing? No.

Legoisthebest · 04/11/2021 12:01

See that's confused me more French Bulldog. I thought John Lewis was 'quality' products not 'tat' as it's quite expensive.

PinkWaferBiscuit · 04/11/2021 12:11

I'm assuming that poster is referring to the items made to tie in with the advert. Every year John Lewis makes an assortment of products solely to sell that relate to the advert such as soft toys, jumpers, snow globes etc.

These are normally extremely expensive and not actually needed by anyone but made and purchased soley because of the advert, ergo the pure definition of tat.

Legoisthebest · 04/11/2021 12:13

Oh that makes sense Pink

DickMabutt73962 · 04/11/2021 12:18

@icelollycraving

What do you think? I’m not loving it. I don’t think they’ll ever top the year with the little boy watching the clock.
Agreed, although I did also love the snowman one fetching his love a scarf
