Curry’s glitch if you want a cheap laptop

BigYellowHat · 29/10/2021 22:13

Just ordered a Dell laptop for £99! Now got to wait and see if my order actually comes next week. Anyone in the market for one should consider getting on the site and giving it a go. Dying to know if it will turn up!

It's still showing on their website as £99.98. You just can't collect or get it delivered so it's a bit redundant on that score.

We shall wait and see.

KingsleyShacklebolt · 30/10/2021 09:33

Yay! Let's all rip off retailers and exploit an obvious mistake!

"Got to be in it to win it" - yes, if you're a GF (grabby fucker) who only cares about themselves and doing what they can get away with. So tacky.

GoingForAWalk · 30/10/2021 09:34

The Intel Pentium Gold processor was introduced in 2019 so it's no older than that. The 15 surely relates to the screen size.

So I'm guessing you missed out then.

I think we've been exploited enough by the likes of Apple etc so I dont think a cheap as chips laptop will make too much of a dent in Dell's or Curry's profits.

My heart is bleeding for Curry's who have always been a delight to me .... NOT.

My DS has been struggling to do schoolwork for 18 months on a phone with a cracked screen. I cant afford £300 for a laptop for him. Why shouldn't I jump sat the chance to improve his education?

I hope you don’t choke on your sour grapes.

BigYellowHat · 30/10/2021 09:48

They’ve said they’re preparing my order and it should be with me on the 5th.

TakeYourFinalPosition · 30/10/2021 09:51

15 is the screen size; not the year of manufacture.

It’s an okay laptop. If you’ve got access to something else, you might find it too slow for Office; and it’s not going to play Roblox or The Sims to a usable level, but it’ll be okay for browsing the internet (if you’re actually talking about browsing, rather than anything that needs massive processor power).

It’s outdated tech, and it’s very dubious whether it’ll be able to be updated to the latest version of Microsoft, so it’s quite possible this isn’t a glitch and Currys want rid of them. As long as that’s okay with what you want to use it for, it’s not an awful purchase.

Lorddenning1 · 30/10/2021 09:51

Same, mine says the 5th too. I have bought it for my other half as he likes to play football manager. He had a really old and kind of broke laptop and his game works on that, so I am hoping this will be an upgrade to the one he has now. Will be a nice surprise for him on Christmas if this gets delivered.

TheFairyCaravan · 30/10/2021 09:52

I’ve had the same BigYellowHat. We shall see. We’re either going to get a bargain or a refund.

Jinglebells21 · 30/10/2021 09:54

I went to the online chat before and I have cancelled it.

specialsauce · 30/10/2021 09:56

I've had confirmation email for delivery on the 5th room. Fingers crossed!

specialsauce · 30/10/2021 09:56

*too

Underthestairsbears · 30/10/2021 10:13

I've not seen people get so funny about this stuff before.

@BigYellowHat thanks for kindly sharing. If it comes it will be a great little first laptop for DS who will need it for homework.

If it's going to be refunded it really isn't the end of the world.

It would be lovely if the people that needed it got it. Some people really do need these things and it's a real godsend when there's a bargain.

Thetrainisinthestation · 30/10/2021 10:14

They haven’t even taken it down at that price yet

Moonshine86 · 30/10/2021 10:17

But if you click to buy it will no longer let you.

LinuxPenguinPCnerd · 30/10/2021 10:22

Yeah, that is no bargain. That spec is dreadful.

RobbieWeirdicht · 30/10/2021 10:23

Just tried and it's letting me add it to my basket but it's saying collection only now.

I was sure that when I looked at it last night it said Windows 11 ready too which would be ideal but can't for the life of me see it now, that may be due to a lack of caffeine this morning though.

Silverswirl · 30/10/2021 10:38

It’s not awful at all for £99. It means my 10 year olds can type their homework on it, browse the internet and learn to send emails etc. Not seen any new laptops made in the past 2 years for under £100 have you?
atz333 · 30/10/2021 10:45

It's not terrible for that price at all. My husband works in high performance computing and said it'll be a good laptop for the kids so we bought one last night.
You can buy things according to what it will be used for. Not everything has to be top spec every time.

julieca · 30/10/2021 10:53

I have bought it for when I travel to stay with my parents or friends. I always worry about what I use getting damaged. At that price its fine, and I will only use it for mumsnet and browsing the internet.

MarbleRunaway · 30/10/2021 11:36

it’s not going to play Roblox or The Sims to a usable level

See this is what I am worried about as DD plays both these … but plays them on what is a far older, knackered laptop so I don’t get how this will be worse?!

Because it's not about age, it's about the specs and memory.

4GB of RAM is nothing.

MissCruellaDeVil · 30/10/2021 11:53

It's now back to £319, but my order is still there and hasn't been cancelled yet, so maybe we're getting a good deal?
