Sorting myself out before Xmas

TheQuest · 29/10/2021 12:37

Right, I’ve given myself a deadline of Xmas to sort myself out and declutter my house.
I’m going to lose a stone in weight by dropping sugar and grains.
Get myself out walking and do some 10 minute weights workouts.
Moisturising
Collagen supplements. I don’t know if they work but lots of good reviews for skin, hair and nails. I’m willing to try for the next 6 weeks.
Weekly face mask
Hair masks every couple of weeks

As for my house, I’m going to declutter all my shelves and cupboards room by room and buy some nice plants, candles and decorative items to cheer the place up and make it a bit more homely.

I’m grateful for any ideas as I’m shit at homely stuff.
Welcome to join me if you fancy doing similar Smile

Good luck!
I have decided to eat healthily throughout November, cut right down on the booze and do a deep clean of the house.

I exercise loads, so I will carry on with that. I've also started jogging, so want to go at least four or five times per week

OhMrDarcy · 29/10/2021 13:23

I'm in. I live in relative chaos at the moment, surrounded by "stuff" on every level. I read something recently that resonated with me, along the lines that my life at the moment is a consequence of choices I've made and it really annoyed me - and brought home to me - that the state of my life/job/house/car is entirely my fault. I chose this - but the thing is, I didn't mean to! Must start planning better.

I need to declutter massively. We moved over two years ago so its a good time time now to ditch things if I haven't used them since we moved. I'm hoping once I've got less stuff then I can see the wood for the trees, so to speak.

lookatgiraffenow · 29/10/2021 14:32

I'm upping my exercise....started a 10min jog every evening. I really REALLY have to force myself to do it, I'm a beetroot mess at the end of it but what keeps me going is the feeling of "I'm actually glad I went now" after my shower.
We decluttered a week or so ago. I was absolutely brutal! I took suitcases of stuff to local charity shop and have seven binbags in loft waiting for collection when we get rid of some old furniture.
No exaggaration when I say the declutter made me feel 3 stone lighter, it's amazing what it's done to clear some space in my head.
Now I'm thinking of some new plants for bedroom, will get a nice fresh-scented candle while I'm at it.

Seiheiki · 29/10/2021 14:48

I'm in. I'm away for 2 weeks in November, but that still gives me 6 other weeks to use. I'm fat and my house looks like a bombsite.

MrsHookey · 29/10/2021 18:39

Also in. Have started on the decluttering but there is plenty to go.

MrsHookey · 29/10/2021 19:24

I like to buy nice stuff for after Xmas when things feel grim and the house looks drab!

TheQuest · 30/10/2021 01:05

I’ve made a start!
Tidied up a fair bit. I went shopping and picked up some nice plants in pots and some decorative items.
I called a local charity shop who is happy to take books so I’m filling a box or two to drop off tomorrow.
I took my vitamins and collagen things and had grapes instead of dessert. I know fruit has sugar but I’m not ready to give up all sugar yet.
Slow and steady Smile

Don't set yourself too many targets at once. Pace yourself and post on here when you have done anything no matter how small. Everything you have said here sounds positive and I should really join you............. I will in spirit !

I also need to do this. Feeling heavy, lethargic and down about my weight.

Moving in a few weeks, the amount of stuff in my house to pack is insane. Been sorting as I go but still plenty of scope for decluttering.

I also need to up my self care routine and use the many face masks I have (may help with the skin breakouts im having) eating badly is affecting my mood and energy levels so need to get better at cooking decent meals rather than convenience crap.

I need to stop mindlessly scrolling on my phone and actually do something challenging for my brain like reading. Waste so much time reading random shit that adds nothing but anxiety and stress to my life.

SueblueNZ · 01/11/2021 19:57

I'm in on the self-improvement aspect. We have been in lock down for almost 11.weeks and I had every intention (as was the case during the last longish - though not by UK standards - lock down last year) to improve my diet and exercise. Did I? No. So 1st November seems a good time to start.
I've been online shopping like there's no tomorrow, always expecting to return some of each order. A really nice shirt arrived by post yesterday and it needs to be about 2 inches bigger at the hips. I'm not going to return it. That shirt is going to be my marker/inspiration. I want to comfortably fit it by December.
I'm also knocking out alcohol at home - drink hardly any when we're out anyway.
I'm hanging out for our hairdressers to open (probably a month away). My white crazy hair looks terrible on my many Zoom and Teams meetings.
I'm place marking this thread and will encourage others and do my own reporting back.

1st of the month is definitely a good time to start. I think I look really terrible lately. Bit bloated, frumpy, terrible hair .
I’m determined to see improvement by the end of the month.

Im a huge procrastinator so this is really hard for me but I’m fed up of feeling and looking crap.

Get a step counter on your mobile and start walking. It really helps.

I have to go for walks because I have a dog and my grandson who is three needs to be pout and about. I can't make excuses not to, but to be honest, if I don't get out at least once in a day it feels like a fail.
Make going for a walk the number one thing to do every day no matter how long or short.

StarryNightSparkles · 02/11/2021 12:15

Hi, can I please join with you all. I am fat/frumpy and have let my self care completely go. I am so hard on myself about this. I got rid off all the house clutter a few weeks ago and started TOMM (I posted a thread on here about it)

I definitely want to look and feel much better at Christmas.

Liverbird77 · 02/11/2021 21:12

Day 2 and I've managed no wine and no chocolate!
My exercise regime is good, but I decided I needed to knock the crap on the head for a month. It'll be worth it to go into December feeling less bloated and lethargic.
Hope everyone's regimes are going really well.

TheQuest · 02/11/2021 22:44

I did ok today though I only had 5 hrs sleep last night and I was too tired to exercise.
I had soup and some seeded rye bread, small bowl of tuna and veg pasta plus a home made cupcake.
I’ve moisturising and taking my supplements.
House is looking a bit better but I need to do lots more.
I’d like to read a book in November too.

HereticFanjo · 02/11/2021 23:25

Great thread, marking place!

Whatwouldnanado · 03/11/2021 06:53

Me too!

Gufo · 03/11/2021 06:58

I'm in! Going to go for a run after work as a start.

TheQuest · 03/11/2021 09:23

I’m doing a 20hr fast today. I started yesterday after dinner and can eat at 3 today. I have some soup leftover from yesterday which I’ll have then, and then have dinner, which I haven’t decided on yet.

Sounds like everyone is doing great. Yesterday I went for a walk, had a pamper bath, put on moisturizer/hand cream before bed. Didn't eat or drink any rubbish. Drank more water than normal and cooked from scratch. I read a few magazines. I deleted apps/texts/emails that I no longer use, need.

Written down thats actually good going. I am happy with that Grin

2catsandhappy · 03/11/2021 18:32

I got fed up with the charity bags of stuff in my hall. I put all sorts in boxes marked 'free' outside my house. I also left some bags out. I timed it for the school run.
90% went!
Cups, vases, pans, frames, electric sander, quality toys etc.
I can now walk normaly through my hall, not sideways crab walk.
Try it op?

StarryNightSparkles · 05/11/2021 10:40

3rd/4th were busy days. I still managed to eat well/drink only water. I've done some batch cooking and done self care daily. I've been going to bed a lot earlier and getting a better quality of sleep, probably because I am in a bedtime routine. I've also spent 10 mins each day decluttering.

Hope everyone else is getting on well.

spottygymbag · 05/11/2021 22:17

I love this. I always get to Christmas Day and feel completely overwhelmed, exhausted and haggard. This morning I have made a list and booked in/ordered the following:
Haircut for November and then a trim week before Christmas
Ordered foot peel mask
Booked a household junk pick up for next weekend to finally get rid of the outgrown and broken clutter
Cleaner for deep clean the weekend before Christmas
Hair, face and butt masks for at home
Eyebrow tidy
DH has been delegated the garage clean up (99% his stuff)

We've been doing a wellness Olympics through work which has been great for setting good habits around mindfulness, eating, and movement. Just been through a really stressful patch at work and was surprised at how much of a difference it made to my ability to cope so will be keeping that up too.

NoSquirrels · 05/11/2021 22:23

I’ve been listening to ‘Decluttering At the Speed Of Life’ by Dana White on audiobook - I recommend. Good to stick on for motivation and company as you work on house stuff and pretty amusing and realistic.
