Do you open your bedroom window at night when it’s rainy and windy?

I hate sleeping with my bedroom window closed and fortunately I live in a warm house. It’s torrential rain outside and very stormy. I want to close the window because of the noise but I need the air! What do you do?

Open the window. Storm and rain noises are very soothing

Brollywasntneededafterall · 20/10/2021 22:32

One winter we had full snow flurries in our bedroom!!

I always sleep with the bedroom window open, whatever the weather.

bestcattoyintheworld · 20/10/2021 22:33

Mine is always open overnight.

dementedma · 20/10/2021 22:33

Open. In all weathers

EerilyDisembodied · 20/10/2021 22:33

We have sash windows, just open them an inch or two.

PennineWayinSlingbacks · 20/10/2021 22:34

Window open all year round, come hell or high water!

MusingOnStarlight · 20/10/2021 22:35

I thought this was going to be a post about opening them to listen to the rain, which I do all the time

Animood · 20/10/2021 22:36

No I never sleep with the window open... maybe I'm weird?

beela · 20/10/2021 22:36

Always open.

EastWestWhosBest · 20/10/2021 22:37

Always. The small one is always open and big one is open in the summer. It’s one reason I could never live in a bungalow.

hotmeatymilk · 20/10/2021 22:37

When I lived somewhere nice, open in all weathers but especially rain, it’s glorious! The smell! The sound!

I now live on a main road in the borough of Lewisham and must remain hermetically sealed.

bloodywhitecat · 20/10/2021 22:38

Always open here.

mrsfollowill · 20/10/2021 22:38

I'd keep mine open but it sort of 'locks' but leaves a gap for the air to get in still. If I leave it just open on a stormy night the wind can wrench the window fully open which is no fun at 2am. Agree re the sounds of storm/rainfall- I also find this very soothing - cannot stand 'silence' as I hear every creak/snore/snort and fart in the house! On non stormy nights I have a fan running just for the predictable drone.

StrangeAddiction · 20/10/2021 22:39

Ours little window is open all year round. It's open about 4"-6" so the cat can't get out during the night and bring in presents while we sleep. Years ago dh used to open every window in the bedroom as far as they would open even in the winter and I hated it but eventually got used to it being cooler so I like it open just enough.

sofakingcool · 20/10/2021 22:39

I like the noises, find them very soothing and I suffer a bit with tinnitus so it's nice for covering that up too

whistleinthewind · 20/10/2021 22:39

Open permanently for me. Shut for DH. He sneaky shuts them when I'm not looking and is surprised when I wake up accusing him of condemning us to sleep in a tomb. For me its unsanitary to sleep in a room completely sealed

Brightmagic · 20/10/2021 22:41

Yes it’s very comforting to be tucked up in bed with a storm outside.

Mine is only open between spring and autumn, then it gets too cold. During the warmer months it's open a few inches whatever the weather though.

UnholyStramash · 20/10/2021 22:42

I do but only if I’m sleeping alone. DH the poor dear doesn’t like a draught.

SickAndTiredAgain · 20/10/2021 22:43

Generally sleep with them open, but if it’s really pouring down I put them on that slightly open but “locked” into the frame position where it leaves a little gap for air but isn’t properly open.

Piapiano · 20/10/2021 22:44

I keep the windows closed as we have a lot of false widows around here and I'm worried about one crawling in and biting me!

Teflondreams · 20/10/2021 22:44

Never. I posted in the heat of summer whether I should sleep with the window open and the overwhelming majority said no and cited security concerns.

fucketyfuckwit · 20/10/2021 22:44

Ours stays open unless the noise of the weather prevents us from sleeping. But it would have to be very noisy for us to close it.

I could never live in a bungalow and the thought of sleeping on the ground floor without an open window gives me the shivers.

Newfrontdoor · 20/10/2021 22:44

On the latch, so only open a couple of cm. I'd prefer it more open but it wrecks the blinds. 😬.
