Do you open your bedroom window at night when it’s rainy and windy?

I hate sleeping with my bedroom window closed and fortunately I live in a warm house. It’s torrential rain outside and very stormy. I want to close the window because of the noise but I need the air! What do you do?

Yes, bedroom window ALWAYS open, summer and winter, regardless of the weather - I just like listening to the night sounds of owls, sheep bleating or cattle lowing, or, as tonight, rainfall and wind blowing. Very comforting!
Curtains always open too, to watch the moon travel across the sky. Woke this morning to an amazing thunder and lightening storm and lay in bed for a while just enjoying it all - fantastic!

romany4 · 20/10/2021 22:44

Only open in the Summer. I don't like a draught

TokyoSushi · 20/10/2021 22:46

Always open except if its really windy, then locked with the tiny gap

weegiemum · 20/10/2021 22:47

Ours are open all year, unless it's so stormy that the windows are blown fully open. Even when it's below freezing they're open a bit. Luckily we both like a warm bed in a cold room.

Timeisavirtue · 20/10/2021 22:51

Open all year around at night.... in the colder weather we close it during the day but open it again at night. If we have it closed at night I wake up with a sore throat and a croaky voice.

Animood · 20/10/2021 22:53

Don't you get cold?

EmmaMaya · 20/10/2021 22:54

I always sleep with windows closed . . .now also wondering if I am missing something!

RevolvingPivot · 20/10/2021 22:54

I just wrote on another thread about always having our bedroom windows open. Even the kids. I hear you should lock your windows at night but ours are always wide open.

antsinyourpanta · 20/10/2021 22:56

I'm a really light sleeper and although I open my windows in the summer I can't contemplate opening them when it's windy or rainy. I'm already worrying how I will sleep from the noise when they're closed!

YewandOak · 20/10/2021 22:57

Always open, love listening to the rain. Can't sleep properly with the window shut room is too stuffy.

olidora63 · 20/10/2021 22:58

Yes but only just open. If too windy my doggie gets really worried.

WeatherwaxOn · 20/10/2021 22:59

My window is always open. It is the top section of a larger pane, and it opens at the bottom so not much rain gets in. Can't attach a pic but I think it's called a casement window.

TheLeadbetterLife · 20/10/2021 22:59

Always open, year round, but I wear ear plugs because any noise will wake me.

Fifthtimelucky · 20/10/2021 23:03

My window is always open at night.

It's one reason I now sleep in a separate room from my husband. He likes the window closed (and far too many covers for me).

RozHuntleysLeftHand · 20/10/2021 23:03

Always open, even in wind and rain.
I feel sort of closed in if I don't, don't know why?
Like a pp I get snow flurries in the room in winter!
I'm a hot sleeper anyway, so don't get cold, I only use a duvet for about 4 months of the year!
Also curtains open when I get into bed, hate sleeping in a tomb.

thunderandsunshine01 · 20/10/2021 23:06

Never open the windows in the house unless I’m hoovering /cleaning that specific room at the time. Very bad Arachnophobia

RozHuntleysLeftHand · 20/10/2021 23:07

Plus the noise of heavy rain at night is one of my favourite things, it's like that ASMR thing is for some people, always sleep better when it's raining!

Keladrythesaviour · 20/10/2021 23:08

Open all year round, including in tonights' inclement weather. I wear earplugs so it won't bother me and DH can sleep through anything.

SpindelWhorl · 20/10/2021 23:08

Lord, you'd never sleep round here with a window open.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 20/10/2021 23:09

I LOVE an open window when it's stormy but the rain soaks the carpet and this time of year the big rural spiders come in so no.

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 20/10/2021 23:10

@Animood

No I never sleep with the window open... maybe I'm weird?
Me neither! Security latch maybe in summer but that's it. I'm on a ground floor flat with the bedroom facing the road.
Mynameismargot · 20/10/2021 23:10

Always open here too. I feel like I can't breathe when it is shut at night even though that is clearly ridiculous.

Capaz · 20/10/2021 23:11

Basically never gets opened in winter because of the wind, if it's on crack the sound is awful as it whistles through and if it's opened more I'd worry about it snapping off or all the rain coming in! Try to just open it in the morning while getting dressed, as vents are sealed so important to get some ventilation

MagpieMary · 20/10/2021 23:13

I keep mine open at night all year unless it’s really cold.

TheQueenOfDreams · 20/10/2021 23:13

I love my window open at night. I’m listening to the sounds of the rain now. Dh, however, hates it. Hates the noise. Birds wake him up at dawn. Hay fever throughout the summer so wakes up sneezing.
I want my own bedroom. I’d have the windows wide open with billowing curtains.
