Do you open your bedroom window at night when it’s rainy and windy?

I hate sleeping with my bedroom window closed and fortunately I live in a warm house. It’s torrential rain outside and very stormy. I want to close the window because of the noise but I need the air! What do you do?

Always open, and like fifth I sleep separately from my DH as he likes the window closed ... so stuffy and airless. Not looking forward to this weekend as we are sharing a room in a hotel Grin.

hillyholman · 20/10/2021 23:14

OP Are you in Cornwall? I've had to close my bedroom window tonight as the curtains were almost horizonal. Blowing a hooley and lashing down.

SatsumaPumpkinFace · 20/10/2021 23:15

@Animood

Don't you get cold?

Yes, that's the whole point. Love a nice cold bedroom, can't sleep when it's too warm and at my age it's always too warm Grin

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 20/10/2021 23:18

@Mynameismargot

Always open here too. I feel like I can't breathe when it is shut at night even though that is clearly ridiculous.
Snap

Plus like pp I love hearing the owls hoot, the soft chug of the freight trains, dawn chorus & the sheep chattering in the morning.

amusedbush · 20/10/2021 23:19

I love to sleep with the window open all year round but unfortunately it's not possible in this house. We moved here in 2020 and when winter rolled around I discovered that my neighbour sits and revs his engine over and over and over at 7am every fucking day rather than just scrape his car windows.

I don't have to be up until 8:30 so I was woken up and filled with rage for days on end. Even white noise or earplugs didn't drown it out so I have to close the window Sad

I love the fresh air on my face while I'm tucked up in bed but it was frosty here one random morning last week and I was woken out of a dead sleep by VROOOOMMMM VRRROOOOOMM right under my window - it reminded me all over again of how bad last year was!

Strangevipers · 20/10/2021 23:20

Closed if I'm alone in the house incase someone decides to murder me

Open when I'm not alone as the people who live in My house are more annoying than me so if anyone did want to murder anyone in this house I would be last and have plenty of time to run away

ChippyDucks150 · 20/10/2021 23:21

Bedroom windows are always open in this house,I know it's silly but I feel like I'm not getting enough oxygen of the windows are closed.
I love the feeling of a breeze on my face when I'm in bed.

itsutterlyshit · 20/10/2021 23:22

Bedroom window is open 365 days a year. I can't sleep with the windows closed and feel all hot and bothered and wake up all bunged up if they're not open.

I do however sleep with earplugs as I can't stand the noise with the window open DH snoring 😂

LoveFall · 20/10/2021 23:27

Always open, unless it is well below zero. Mind you, we have a heavy cellular blind that can get very annoying in the wind by blowing inwards and banging. Occasionally the only answer is to close the window.

Zeewest · 20/10/2021 23:28

Too noisy. Bus parks a 100 yards away when ahead of schedule, can be there between 5 and 20 minutes, twice an hour from 05:00 to midnight. Husband's bedroom is at the back he has a window open all year.

Cakeofdoom · 20/10/2021 23:29

I live in a bungalow and my windows are rarely closed. It was a raging monsoon last night and my bedroom window was open an inch and locked on the safety catch. No one is getting in !

I love listening to the rain and wind when I'm in bed through an slightly open window.

SpookyPumpkinPants · 20/10/2021 23:34

I have a large window with a separate pane at the top that opens from the bottom outwards that's never closed, bar once a month for the window cleaner, then there's a window either side, they're wide open all spring/summer. Autumn they're open & closed, opened & closed!! They open outwards like a door and the wind often catches them. Sometimes open wide
In winter, but most of the time just a couple of inches... there are quite large overhangs above & the rain rarely comes in from that direction, so no doggy carpet or ruined windowsills.

No curtains, I like the natural light.

ShepherdMoons · 20/10/2021 23:36

I’m peri menopausal so I have started getting hot flushes at night. Window is often open in the bedroom whatever the weather!

HetHetHet · 20/10/2021 23:36

I like having fresh air in the house but by this point in the year, it's unpleasantly cold inside our house with the windows closed during the day, nevermind open at night. Sad

thecatneuterer · 20/10/2021 23:38

I always have the window open. It's better when it's windy and raining - the rain is soothing and I like the feel of the wind on my face.

MissJeanBrodiesprime · 20/10/2021 23:42

Always open when raining, even snowing, I love the sound. However the wind unsettles me so if very windy it says closed.

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 20/10/2021 23:43

I always sleep with the window open. I find the noise comforting

afaloren · 20/10/2021 23:44

Closed. Locked. Blackout blinds. Door closed. White noise from the fan. Basically I sleep in a sensory deprivation tank Grin I have terrible trouble sleeping when we go away. I usually bring the fan with me!

AdoptedBumpkin · 20/10/2021 23:45

Barely open it at this time of year, not at all when wet.

QuestionableMouse · 20/10/2021 23:46

My bedroom window is a velux and it's open 99% of the time. Can't bear a stuffy bedroom!

Dyra · 20/10/2021 23:57

Never open at night. I sometimes cave and permit it to be slightly open in heatwaves, but in the winter? Absolutely not. I need warm, silence and dark to sleep.

PigletJohn · 21/10/2021 00:18

sometimes but not always. Sash windows so can be open any amount from 1mm to 600mm

trickle vents are very handy for controlled ventilation.

In cold windy weather the door might be propped slightly open instead.

Sunshine1235 · 21/10/2021 00:27

Yes! Window open in a storm -my favourite. I loved in a house with my bed under the window for a while and I actually quite liked a light rain on my face

PigletJohn · 21/10/2021 01:00

During the summer, we had a coastal storm with driving rain and I woke up because my feet were wet. There was half an inch of water on the floor.

echt · 21/10/2021 01:55

Mine is open on the screen door all the time except for very warm weather that needs air con.
