What did you do for your 40th birthday?

Just that really...

I simply can't decide whether to spend my budget on a classic party in pub function room (early March) with DJ, buffet and welcome drink, then pay bar.

Or to spend the money on getting something cosmetic done (composite teeth bonding) or something with just a few friends like meal or spa.

What did you do? Please help!

I had a meal in a restaurant with all my close friends and family. We paid for it all. Was about £1500.

What's your budget.

Foolsrule · 20/10/2021 20:26

Nothing. Thanks Covid!

partyplanner82 · 20/10/2021 20:26

Thanks. £800

@Foolsrule

Nothing. Thanks Covid!
Yup, me too.

I played Nintendo and had pizza with my family 😀

partyplanner82 · 20/10/2021 20:28

I don't want a meal with a lot of people because I hate eating whilst trying to chat, so will just end up talking the whole time

It was mid-covid lockdown. So fuck all really. Saw some friends briefly. Took a bit of drugs, quietly. Went for a long walk in a country park type place. Bought some plants in a garden centre.

fedup2017 · 20/10/2021 20:31

I went to venice on my own for the day! Got a flight at 6am and came home at 11pm. I love my husband and children but i did what i wanted and got to suit myself. Best. Day. Ever!

(In those amazingly easy travel pre covid times)

Stretchandsnap · 20/10/2021 20:31

Went to Budapest with DH and lounged in the hot spas, whilst my mum had DDs - it was lovely

HelloDulling · 20/10/2021 20:32

Went away for a weekend at a posh pub with DH. Was nice enough, but I would have liked a party.

AdditionalCharacter · 20/10/2021 20:33

I was in lockdown for mine, but my cancelled plans were afternoon tea and cocktails with friends and a night away in a fancy hotel and fine dining with DH.

Kayjay2018 · 20/10/2021 20:33

@partyplanner82 I went to the local zoo with my daughter as she was born on my 39th birthday, so my 40th was her 1st. Excellent way to spend the day seeing her so happy 😀

sandgrown · 20/10/2021 20:35

Had a shell suit party in a local hall. There were some fantastic outfits and I was so comfortable!

foreverandalways · 20/10/2021 20:38

Surprise holiday to Dubai...spent my birthday speeding through the sand dunes in a jeep and a camel ride...unforgettable...

ParkheadParadise · 20/10/2021 20:39

Not what I'd planned

I'd always planned to go to New York with dd1 for my 40th and to celebrate her 25th birthday. Sadly it didn't happen.
I had a meal out with DH. I didn't want a party or any kind of celebration. Went home and my siblings and friends were already at our house the drink was flowing🥂🥂
Dh and I went to Dublin for the weekend and I also went to Edinburgh with friends for the weekend.

Vallmo47 · 20/10/2021 20:40

Had covid. People dropped cards and presents at my door and stood 2 metres back while I opened. We had a take away I couldn’t taste. It’s definitely a birthday I won’t forget in a hurry.

moostermum · 20/10/2021 20:40

I want to Vegas. It was ok and better than being at home with kids moaning but not 'amazing'

TheUnbearable · 20/10/2021 20:40

Went to Chicago for 2 weeks :) also had a party for friends. Had a 1970’s style children’s birthday tea for 20 at my house with pineapple hedgehogs and iced gems type food.

MrsDThomas · 20/10/2021 20:41

I ran a half marathon.

So no help to you really

Bellyups · 20/10/2021 20:43

I’d go with your second option, personally. Something that lasts, makes you feel more confident, and also a lovely meal with your more closer friends.

frazzledfragglefromfragglerock · 20/10/2021 20:53

I ran a half marathon!

purpleflowerlegs · 20/10/2021 20:56

I was going to be abroad for a massive 3 week holiday of a lifetime but ended up working on a covid ward 😭

Alwaysonthegoslow · 20/10/2021 20:57

Posh restaurant with famous chef in another city…. Meal was £450, whole weekend around £1k was just me and DH

OldWivesTale · 20/10/2021 21:01

Weekend in Cambridge in a nice hotel with DH.

itsgettingwierd · 20/10/2021 21:02

Went for a family meal.

That as about all that was available as between lockdowns last year!

I would have had a pub function room with buffet if doing anything bigger
