What did you do for your 40th birthday?

Just that really...

I simply can't decide whether to spend my budget on a classic party in pub function room (early March) with DJ, buffet and welcome drink, then pay bar.

Or to spend the money on getting something cosmetic done (composite teeth bonding) or something with just a few friends like meal or spa.

What did you do? Please help!

I dragged my celebrations out for a few weeks:

Had two smaller nights out with two groups of friends (different cities so easiest to split)

Went to a big gig in another city

On my actual birthday weekend, stayed with DH and DC at our caravan by the coast and had fish and chips and prosecco

Much preferred it to my 30th when I had a four-month-old baby and couldn't manage to do anything!

I am going to be 40 in December.

This time last year I said to myself if nothing changes I'll drown myself in alcohol... I was so low...I was single, childless, isolated and lonely (covid and ore-covid). I really saw no point in continuing with life. My family isn't nearby and I have a couple of good friends but they had their own lives to be getting on with.

Aged 39 I underwent reproductive assistance with a sperm donor and am now 35 weeks pregnant. I couldn't have asked for a better birthday present and a new chapter to begin!

Congratulations! Your story is startlingly similar to mine, except that I had my DD at 36.

I don’t think I’ll be going abroad for my 40th in December, given the Covid situation. I’ve always wanted to try indoor skydiving, so I might do that.

We had two babies at the time so our only celebration was a rushed meal in a local restaurant with some friends. My mum would only babysit if they were both in bed and she wouldn’t stay beyond 10.30pm. Our friends met up for a drink before at 7pm and we met them in the restaurant at 7.45pm and had to leave just after 10pm to get home before 10.30pm.

I am 40 on Monday, and I’m going to Madeira and staying in a fancy hotel.

I like giving parties, but not when they are about me.

Weekend away with a big group of friends to a holiday cottage in the middle of nowhere with a hot tub and gallons of sparkling wine. Most fun weekend I have had in a long time. People are the important thing

My DH took me to Venice - Mid February! Loved it as not too busy ( no carnival) and the weather wasn't too bad! It was a long time ago.

I had 6 ‘parties’ or events I suppose

Consisted of two meals at a restaurant, a pizza and video party, an evening at a cocktail bar, a ‘high tea’ and an actual party

I invited everyone to everything, the party, high tea and pizza evening were paid for by me (dh) and people could come to what they could afford or liked

It took place over one week and i rested on the sunday 😀

I was going to go away for the weekend with my bestie, to a nice little hideaway somewhere and just enjoy her company and the peace and quiet. But she dumped me and it didn’t happen (totally gutted!). In the end I had a bbq at home with a cousin with a cake from a local baker. Not very exciting really!

Fuck all, just as I wanted.

Lockdown 40th here! Had a lovely day with DH and DC but I still feel cheated. Seriously considering a 41st birthday party...

Afternoon tea with my work colleagues. My birthday coincided by another colleagues postponed due to Covid, 40th party. She she kindly decided that we would have a birthday breakfast the next day for my birthday.
My friend took me out for lunch. I got very spoilt.

Currently in Costa eating my free slice of cake.

I'm 40 in January.. so far, my Birthday day is looking like this:

Husband and I take day off work.... drive to Eyam and visit the plague museum.

Travel to Nottingham and go to the Kitty cafe for lunch

Visit the Haunted museum

Go to a Michelin starred restaurant for dinner

I am very much hoping we're not locked down for January and the next decade of my life is as enjoyable and I get to do as much weird stuff as possible

My work refused to give me a day off (no valid reason) so I spent the day resentfully doing as little as possible then went out for pizza...

I honestly cannot remember. Probably nothing! My birthday is just after Christmas and I am usually on my own. I actually cannot remember anything about my 40s. I wasn't off my face or anything, just do not remember!

Went to Seville with DP. Great food and fabulous flamenco.

I had a black tie party at a local golf club for about 100 people, followed by a holiday in the Maldives in a water bungalow! I was very spoilt. However for my 50th absolutely nothing, thank you COVID.

Hired a party boat on the Thames and invitee everyone.

Mine was a lockdown 40th. DC1 baked me an amazing cake though

Found out that I was pregnant 🤰😀

Went to Dublin for the weekend with about 12 mates. Bloody brilliant.

Booked a very cheap small youth hostel in the Lake District and invited some really good friends to spend the weekend with me!
