I hope they aren't down playing anything.

I know she is 95 but I hope she really is as ok as they are saying she is.

I don't think abdication is likely. The Queen will remember the horrific fall out of the abdication of her uncle. Besides, I think that she is all about duty.

It's a very unfashionable example.

Maireas · 20/10/2021 22:52

She will never abdicate.
If she becomes too unwell to continue, then Charles will act as regent.
HM will be monarch until her death.

madisonbridges · 20/10/2021 22:56

@Changemusthappen

Saw this today, Kate and Wills must be panicking that they might actually have to do some work........
Aw, this is a nice thread about the Queen. Why do you feel the need to bring horribleness on here?
OldScrappyAndHungry · 20/10/2021 23:37

@3luckystars “she always gets things right”

I’m guessing you weren’t alive in 1997 then?

3luckystars · 21/10/2021 10:27

Ok since then so. I like her.

HarrisonStickle · 21/10/2021 12:53

The Queen: I wish world leaders would do something about climate change not just talk about it.
Also The Queen: I want an exemption to climate change legislation at Balmoral.

I don't wish the woman ill, she's 95 and coming to the end of a good life well lived, but all this she's wonderful, so dutiful, never does anything wrong nonsense is ridiculous.

She's as fallible and hypocritical as every other human being on the planet.

You mean the one time she out family ahead of duty and stayed at Balmoral with the princes newly bereaved of their mother?

madisonbridges · 21/10/2021 16:08

@HarrisonStickle. I don't blame the Queen for wanting an exemption. Private companies could have compulsorily bought her land. She already has her life on display, buildings overlooking her garden in Buckingham Palace, tv programmes making up conversations and events that never happened. Does she have to have her privacy invaded at her home by private developers confiscating her land right next to where she lives? TBH it's shocking that anyone should be in that position.

She's hardly at Buckingham Palace but if she's concerned someone can see into her garden there she has many other properties that are private. It's not like she's stuck there.

That's not true. It's her official residence and her office and she spends most of her time there. She can't just move the official residence of the head of state.

StealthPolarBear · 21/10/2021 22:30

Spent a night in hospital but back home

She is however reportedly in good spirits, according to the News at Ten, after some preliminary investigations (that last phrase isn't verbatim, but it's what they clearly meant)

madisonbridges · 21/10/2021 22:47

Oh no. It's never good when a 95yo is in hospital. Get well soon, Your Madge.

I've got plans for next year's jubliee bank holiday so she really needs to pull it together!

Maireas · 21/10/2021 23:00

She's back at her desk in Windsor, doing "light" duties. In good spirits, the report says.

EdithWeston · 22/10/2021 07:19

Fuller BBC version shows the role of the press in ending her privacy on this:

"It is a tricky balance for the palace to release enough details about the Queen's health to keep the public informed while maintaining the privacy to which she is entitled.
"It was for this reason that the news that she had been taken to hospital for tests was not announced, until a report on the Sun newspaper's front page forced the palace's hand"

It sounds like she went in for tests, and any decisions on what might need to be announced (public interest in the sense of keeping the public informed of important matters concerning head of state and Commonwealth leader) made after results known.

Instead we have The Sun feeding public curiosity by prematurely publishing something medical/personal

StTherese · 22/10/2021 07:56

It’ll be so strange when she does pop her clogs. I think Charles will get by on sympathy for his loss for a while but then be quite an unpopular King. Be interesting to see whether Camilla is crowned Queen Consort.
The video of the queen meeting Bill Gates etc was rather sad, she looked slightly bewildered (just my opinion!)

My grandparents lived to a similar age and were in and out of hospital a lot in their last few years, my grandmother especially so. It doesn’t necessarily mean she’s very unwell, but I am concerned that they have said she’s in ‘good spirits’. Whatever does that mean? They said the same about Philip!
EdithWeston · 22/10/2021 08:24

they have said she’s in ‘good spirits’. Whatever does that mean?

My guess is they want to say something positive, but do not want to release any further medical info at present

Actually she got it right then!

Staying at home with her bereaved family, two children. Such a shocking death is a private affair and the parading of all of them but particularly the children was abominable!! Angry

How dare the baying press and crowds outside the palace demand to see them at such a time they ought to be ashamed of themselves whipping up that frenzy and forcing the consequences that have followed those children to adulthood Sad

sashagabadon · 22/10/2021 08:29

She works extraordinarily hard. I can’t believe her itinerary considering her age. I think she needs to have a days rest between visits where she travels.

Clocktopus · 22/10/2021 08:48

The bank holiday would still go ahead but probably as a coronation and/or commemoration.

So much this, I can’t believe that there are still twats out there who put virtue signalling ahead of the welfare of two kids who were rightly being shielded by their family, until the hysterical mob demanded that they come out and put on a show for them. Shame on them, and shame on anyone who still bangs on to this day that the queen should have put the “grief” of the people before that of her grandsons.

madisonbridges · 22/10/2021 11:35

Oooo, @RoseAndRose, @Rainbowsew and @Aposterhasnoname. Well said. 👏
