I hope they aren't down playing anything.

I know she is 95 but I hope she really is as ok as they are saying she is.

She probably just doesn’t want to come to NI. It’s shite here!

Chicchicchicchiclana · 20/10/2021 18:40

I don't know why she still does all these engagements. Seriously, it's amazing she's got to 95 and her only walking aid is the occasional use of a walking stick.

Given the rising covid cases I think she should step back again and shield herself, same as any other elderly person.

WrapAroundYourDreams · 20/10/2021 18:41

Cannot believe anyone could say it will be a worse shock when the queen dies than Diana. How crass can you get, Diana was a young woman with young children ffs, two of the Queen's children are beyond retirement age.

BasiliskStare · 20/10/2021 18:42

Bless her heart she has been a figure of continuity - I do not think we shall like her like again - I wish her all health.

whynotwhatknot · 20/10/2021 18:45

Bless her i think she shojld avoid people for now anyway with numbers going up

HerRoyalWitchyness · 20/10/2021 18:51

The Queen has been a constant figure in most peoples lives. As a PP said, no one under 70 will have known a time when she wasn't queen. So if anything happens to her it will shake the nation.

I can't speak for the original writer of that comment but for me it will be a probably bigger shock to my system in that I have never known anyone else on the throne and she is so familiar and comforting to me. I feel like there is a reassuring continuity throughout different PMs, calamities etc. She's just always been there, getting on with things. That Diana died so young was awful, no doubt about that. And, yes, a shock. But she didn't have any influence on my life. She was off doing all sorts of things that attracted media attention. By the end, even though she was doing really good things like highlighting minefields, she was basically, and sadly, newspaper fodder. We loved to read about her, comment on her clothes and lovelife, but she didn't affect my day to day life and although it was a shock when she died, her absence wasn't noticeable...to me. When the Queen dies, I'll be happy that she's had a long life but her absence will be noticeable. Her picture will be replaced everywhere and she won't be there. It will be a huge shock to my system.
imnotacelebritygetmeoutofhere · 20/10/2021 18:58

She's probably pulled a sickie so she can binge watch Squid Game.

😂😂😂 Aw, I'm sure that's not true. She loves NI, even if some of its citizens have killed a family member!😉 I've been there several times and I think Northern Ireland is beautiful.
hotmeatymilk · 20/10/2021 19:04

Bone idle, bet she’ll perk up at the weekend.

Whenigrowupiwanttobea · 20/10/2021 19:06

I was just thinking when I saw her on TV yesterday that she has aged so much since Prince Phillip died. She looks more frail and hunched over and has started using a walking stick. She has worked so hard I think she should be allowed as much "sick-leave" as she wants!!!

WrapAroundYourDreams · 20/10/2021 19:08

I know what you mean @madisonbridges but I still find it a bit crass- and I don't feel that either the queen or Diana have had much of an effect on my life. I'm 33 so yes it will be strange for her not to be there. I'm no royalist but no republican either- I'm indifferent. I wish her well as I do anyone.

Can't help but find it odd for anyone to suggest it will be more of a shock for a very elderly lady to die of natural causes than a young woman to have had her life cut so tragically short in a horrific accident. Probably based on too many young people having died in my own family as well.

😂😂 I agree. These blinkin 95yos don't know what a day's work is! What a shirker.

This was my comment and I do not see why you find it crass. Diana was an independent woman with no official role, basically a celebrity supporting some charities while also living it up as a multimillionaire socialite. Her death was tragic but completely overblown as to her importance to this country, and I frankly if she wasn't a beauty that was always in the tabloids people would not be nearly as hysterical.

Would you really not be shocked if we woke up tomorrow and the Queen had died in her sleep overnight? The ceremonial head of multiple commonwealth countries and our monarch for 70 years, who was looking quite well until last week? There would be over a week of mourning, the lying in state period, a state funeral broadcast worldwide - as we saw with Philip there would also be media restrictions. Literally everything would need updating, even on postboxes and the cash in our pockets. There was a great article I read on just how many things would need to be changed in the weeks after the funeral.

We'd also have a far more opinionated monarch in Charles, who doesn't agree with the 'never complain, never explain' philosophy which I'm sure will have some political fallout.

😂 Nah, it's that dodgy kebab she had after 6 pints of lager and black that's done it. I know, I have inside knowledge 🤫😉

No, I wouldn't be shocked at a 95 year old dying Confused I recognise how long she has been monarch, what she has done in that time, and that it will be a big change for some people, depending on how bothered about the royal family they are. That's entirely separate to me, to being 'shocked'. It will definitely rank up there as a memorable event along with Diana dying, 9/11 etc, but no to me, it won't be a shock.

At 95 it wouldn't be a shock for someone to die at any moment. I wasn't shocked when any of my grandparents died in their 80s or 90s. My 23 yr old cousin? That was horrific and shocking.

Makinglists · 20/10/2021 19:42

Perhaps she's had her covid booster or her flu jab and its made her feel a bit rough.

Blankspace4 · 20/10/2021 19:43

Poor lady.

She’s an extremely elderly woman. Let her rest.

madisonbridges · 20/10/2021 19:47

@CandidaAlbicans2. 😂 I'd be so happy if that were true. She deserves to be living up her life however she wants. 🌮 🍺 🤢

I agree with this. I'm no royalist but think she deserves to do whatever the hell she wants now and good luck to her.

magicstar1 · 20/10/2021 19:58

I read recently that the Queen is due a knee replacement next month. That would explain the walking stick, and maybe she’s having some pain. She’s right to rest up at her age.

BasiliskStare · 20/10/2021 20:15

Ah Diana's death was a shock but entirely different from the Queen. I think both will be ( clearly Diana is ) missed but in very different ways. The Queen has been a figure of continuity and it will be A Thing - I think - when she is no longer with us. Now that is not to say that an elderly person dying is the same as a 20 odd year old - not at all - not at all - but she has been a figurehead for donkey's years and to that extent - I think she will be missed. & let us hope those who come after can step into her shoes - but in no way am I saying that young people who have died is not more poignant - I hope some at least will get my point.

Mummyoflittledragon · 20/10/2021 20:16

I hope she feels better soon. She seemed so frail.

Blossomtoes · 20/10/2021 20:23

@LoveGrooveDanceParty

My dad was still playing golf at 98. His healthcare was no better than anyone else’s.

You surely have to acknowledge that that’s hardly common.

I didn’t say it was. I said it wasn’t evidence of the best health care possible.
