What was THE INCIDENT at your secondary school?

Inspired by a thread on another website that I randomly came across throught google.

Every school has some sort of 'infamous incident' that passed into the annals of school infamy and was the sole topic of gossip for months if not years.

What was yours?

Mine was the head teacher had an affair with another teacher. Both were married. It all became public on the last day of term and neither of them came back the following term. Just disappeared. No one talked about anything else for a long time.

We had quite a few teen pregnancies in year 10 and 11. We then had an 'emergency assembly' when someone had taken a shit in someone's school bag! I found tin quite shocking. The suspects for that were then also caught removing ceiling tiles and climbing in the roof space to break into an office and steal a load of cash! Sickeningly there was also a grounds man who was early 20s who had an 'affair' with a year 11 girl. She got lots of hate for it as he was deemed attractive. None of us saw it as the abuse and grooming it was 😔

On the last day of school, some of the fifth-form girls got drunk and fell in the fish pond. The rest of the class refused to tell on them so the headmistress nun (it was a convent) caned the entire class.

The art teacher who accused of inappropriate touching with a girl. He went on an exchange to Australia for a year, but then came back after that

The Head was having an affair with a teacher. They were the 2 history teachers for the A'level class, and they literally didn't bother to turn up to our lessons - they allegedly spent the time having sex in the head's office.
Sadder was the girl who had a complete personality change when she had a motorbike accident during the school holidays. She went from being atttractive, bright and popular to being the opposite. She was friendless and ended up disappearing one evening (it was a boarding school). There was a hunt of the school grounds and she was found in a shed with the junior gardener. She left the school the same night.

Our biology teacher and a student who had just left sixth year got together and set up home. Her parents were our neigbours. There was a story in the paper and everything!

Similar with a PE teacher and a 16 year old at my school. Lots of rumours and apparently they 'never dated until after the day she left'. Total lies of course and he kept his job.

PE teacher who used to date his pupils in his tutor group. Got one pregnant (she was 15) and they are now married with 3 kids. Oddly enough, he took "early retirement"............

One teacher was a Head of House, always came across as a lovely guy, and is now in prison for grooming and abusing a young lad with learning difficulties (not from the school). Shocked was an understatement, it even made the national press.

In total, 3 lads from my year group all died in car accidents. That was really tough.

A boy in Y11 brought his dad's (illegal) gun into school. Didn't shoot anyone though, it was just showing off.

I went to an ultra religious school. The most favourite pupil ever went to Oxford and was held up to us a shining example of achievement. For context, this was the early 1960s. She got pregnant unmarried by a black man. Probably the most scandalous thing the nuns had ever come across. We no longer had to hear how wonderful she was!

Very similar thing happened at my school. The head girl who was held up to everyone as a paragon of RC virtue and heading for Oxford suddenly left and was never spoken of again because she was pregnant.

Out school (all girls) had a planned fight with another girls school. All the pupils knew about it and about 200 marched off chanting fight fight. This was all over a boy

We watched from a window of the local department store. Next day it was rumoured a knife was used (they had all gone from the canteen)

Another a teacher and a pupil relationship, well he was abusing her. The story he would tell is that she babysat for him. The police arrived one day and he went off with them never to return

In my middle school the woodwork teacher would have lunch with a pupil in his cupboard. He disappeared one day never to return

Did we go to the same school - same fight? Early 80's? Our girls were miffed that girls from the (supposedly posher) other school were sha**ing our boys...

Someone drove a car through the downstairs corridor of our school on the last day of term. Not really gossip as everyone knew who it was etc, but talked about for a long time. They weren’t allowed back to sit their exams

That is really cool! How did they get a car into the school? I know cars used to be narrower but how did they get it in???

I like that phrase 'looking at each other in a woman's love manner'!! I think it should become common parlance.

These have also reminded me that a girl in the fifth form disappeared for a few weeks. Rumour was she'd had an abortion. Now looking back I think it probably wasn't true but if it was, how awful for everyone to be gossiping about it. Very sad.

Friend was at a school where a boy used to repeatedly hang from the first floor classroom window ledge by his fingers to freak out a particular teacher.

I can’t think of any at my secondary school but I was only there for 2 years. I found out some years after I left that drugs had been freely available - not to me they weren’t!

On a school trip a year 11 girl was found in a waiters bedroom. Much disgrace, had to sit shame faced with teachers for the rest of the trip. The biggest shock to her was she wasn't allowed to wear make up for the rest of the trip and she wore alot of make up. I'm not sure what that was supposed to achieve.

A girl in sixth form had sex with a builder who was doing works at the school in the basement. She was 17 atm, he was late 40s.

A girl who had supposedly masturbated with a cucumber. Have no idea where it started but it spread from our school to other schools in the area- so even if the poor girl moved school it would’ve followed her! Doubt it was even true but she did leave in y10! She came up as a recommended friend on FB the other day and even now I could only think “that’s cucumber girl” which is so awful of me as it’s probably not true!

I was a few years below the student who was pissed off at their science teacher and handed him a hot pair of tongs ( I think child had heated the handles) and the teacher was obviously hurt so smacked the student round the head and lost his job.

In my unmumsnetty opinion kid deserved it and the long-standing teacher just reacted after being maliciously hurt … was the talk of the school for a long time and the child was a nasty bully who had major swagger after the prosecution, teacher was good at his job. Such a shame…

2 girls from my year stole their dads' credit cards and ran away to France. It was all over the tabloids.

The dad of a girl in the school was arrested and imprisoned for murder. I think it turned out to be a wrongful conviction in the end.

A girl in the upper 6th, on her last day at school, stripped off and streaked in assembly.

Ergo 6th form - lower 6th then upper 6th being year 12 and 13

Father of a pupil in our school had an 'affair' (their words not mine) with a 14 year old from another school.

Lots of relationships between teachers, quite a few of them married. The most controversial was probably the textiles teacher and the metalwork teacher (who was married to one of the art teachers!). There was a store area between their classrooms and we guess it was well utilised! They were found out a few years after I left, while my sister was still there.

When I was in yr9 a girl in our class went on a family holiday and didn't return. School investigated and discovered her parents had arranged for her to get married. If she knew that was the purpose of the holiday I'm certain she'd never have gone. Still think of her.

ooh, male gym teacher and female gym teacher had a raging affair. Chemistry teacher groping female pupils, another chem teacher getting off with 6th former. Languages teacher killing himself, one headmaster ending up in secure unit and another topping himself himself . Two pupils having it off with workmen when they were there to repair the roof. Another girl hanging herself age 13. All in the 1970's
