What was THE INCIDENT at your secondary school?

NoviceNewMN · 17/10/2021 17:42

Inspired by a thread on another website that I randomly came across throught google.

Every school has some sort of 'infamous incident' that passed into the annals of school infamy and was the sole topic of gossip for months if not years.

What was yours?

Mine was the head teacher had an affair with another teacher. Both were married. It all became public on the last day of term and neither of them came back the following term. Just disappeared. No one talked about anything else for a long time.

A girl had a dc at 15..
And a teacher married a pupil once she left school.. Had been his pupil.

CovidCorvid · 17/10/2021 17:55

@Nutrigrainygoodness

Our science teacher put a student on the floor. From what I remember the student ran at the teacher and the teacher wrestled the student to the ground, maybe a bit aggressively. Was gossip long after he left (years after this incident)
Staff physically attacking pupils was common at my secondary school. Once I was getting physically bullied by a boy in an art lesson and the art teacher charged over and grabbed the boy by the throat and pinned him up against the wall with his feet dangling. Good on him!

A boy in my class had his neck broken when he was stuffed upside down in a bin….by other kids…not a teacher!

In middle school a teacher was suspended for accusing me and a friend of 'looking at each other in a woman's love manner'!!
Confused

Headmistress (that was the terminology back then) left very suddenly. At our 40 years since leaving school reunion (gulp) a couple of years ago, we were still comparing notes on the various possible explanations.

There was another teacher who disappeared for weeks at a time. We were told she had malaria. We later heard it might have been alcoholism. Very sad, either way, as she eventually had to leave. She was a good teacher, when she was there.

The headmaster of the boys' school turned out to be having an affair with the mother of one of the boys, which all came to light not long after I left school. Caused something of a stir there, and he left in a hurry.

Fast forward to the period when my own children were at primary school. The head was married with young children. One half-term his wife found out he was having an affair with a teacher. She threw him out. He moved in with the teacher, who was in key worker housing with another young teacher at our school. Awkward for all concerned. He was on secondment at the time to another local school, and it then turned out he'd interviewed the OW for a post at the other school (a promotion for her) without declaring their relationship, and she was the successful candidate. He claimed the relationship didn't exist at that time Hmm but it certainly did within a few days after the interview (according to the housemate). They were apparently involved for quite some time after she moved to the other school. When it eventually fell apart, she moved out and he remained in the key worker housing, paying a very low rent, while earning a small fortune as a head, at which point a member of staff at our school reported him to the council and he was turfed out. His wife served the divorce papers on him in the school playground (not ours, the other school, but the local grapevine was working overtime by this stage, so we all heard). Interesting times!

A year 10 or 11 girl ran away with her policeman boyfriend. He was about 22. Their car got stuck in some soft sand on a beach in Scotland.

It made the national news and they were interviewed on whatever the equivalent of This Morning was at the time.

Comedycook · 17/10/2021 17:59

A teacher attacking a pupil at our school. Lots of us witnessed it including teachers. It was absolutely crazy to see happening. We never saw the teacher again.

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 17/10/2021 17:59

The school was in the grounds of an old house so naturally was haunted. Various reported sightings of an old fashioned lady in a white nightgown, and a creepy picture in the library whose eyes followed you around.

After I left the head was sacked for theft, and fraud to the tune of thousands. I believe he was since found innocent but of course no one cares about that. The supposed scandal is far more exciting. Grin

A teacher who was sentenced for possessing child pornography. After that came out a pupil he had taught at another school came forward and stated he had been abused by the teacher and he went to jail for a further 2 years. That part was after I left though.

“Gym slip mums” as the Daily Record called them. A double page spread including a photo of 6 under 16 year old girls who were pregnant. It showed them from the back, I wondered why at the time because it’s a small town and everyone knew who they were.

Hoppinggreen · 17/10/2021 18:00

Head girl and (female) Head of English.
She flew out to Spain where we were having our post A level holiday and turned up at our hotel.
It was boarding school so plenty of people disappeared under a cloud which was probably pregnancy related

PE teacher impregnating a 4th Yr Shock

Dontknowwhatsnext · 17/10/2021 18:01

I can't think of just one.

We had a student PE teacher who was seeing a friend of mine when we were in year 11.

We had the RE trip where there was 40% sent home after room search as weed and alcohol was found (my year again).

Teacher found dead in mysterious circumstances in the car park.

Student found a (different) dead body. On the walk home from school.

My younger cousin who kept bragging of having abortions, because she thought it made her look older. She wasn't best pleased when I told her mum, my auntie.

At 6th form there was rumour a teacher was seeing student in the year above. She transferred to a college. A year later they were an official couple but both claimed they were when she went to school there.

All caused loads of gossip.

Pebbledashery · 17/10/2021 18:02

Our head of sixth form was abusing his wife, one day he switched and smacked a hammer over her head, she was left in a vegetative state for the rest of her life and he was imprisoned.
What a way to ruin lives.

MrsPnut · 17/10/2021 18:03

Not an incident but an art teacher used to bring his wife to school with him every day and she sat in the car.

Don't you mean raping and child abuse of a 13/14 year old?

Let's call these things what they were abuse and grooming.

Let's not make a jolly he he thread about it. Like the poster who commenting on 'gym slip mums' what about the abuser father?

Threewheeler1 · 17/10/2021 18:05

A bunch of girls in the year below me going to the Valentines Ball and ending up on the front page of The Sun. They were all underage and pictured drunk & snogging grim blokes. They hadn't planned on parents etc finding out they were going so it was all a bit scandalous. What a way to be outed having a rebellious teenage moment!

trappedsincesundaymorn · 17/10/2021 18:05

One of the 5th year (last year at secondary), took a hammer to school and trashed the science lab during a lunchtime.

hopeishere · 17/10/2021 18:06

Dodgy music teacher think he eventually married a pupil.

Drunk geography teacher which was quite sad. In the end some sixth years had to point our to other teachers that Mrs XX was pissed in class in a regular basis. She got help and did come back.

Lots of pregnancies.

thisisnotmyllama · 17/10/2021 18:06

My friend tripped over while queueing for lunch and cut her knee open on a fire extinguisher (not sure how!). There was lots of blood and another friend screamed because she could see the bone. Friend whose knee it was didn’t even feel it happen! She had to go to hospital and have seven stitches, internal and external.

A girl in another year died from an asthma attack at school. Her older sister, who was also a pupil there at the time, went on to become famous and I’ve seen an interview with her where she talked about her sister’s death and that the teachers just had no idea what to do. I’d like to think that wouldn’t happen today.

Two other pupils died in road accidents during my time at secondary school as well. Three deaths in seven years - seems like a lot!

MatildaJayne · 17/10/2021 18:07

Teacher at a primary school I worked at, child abuse images found on his computer. Some doubt as to whether it was him or his son who had access to the laptop. While under investigation a TA had to be in his class at all times.

He hung himself two days before the end of year and as the investigation was still confidential, parents didn’t know why and his pupils were distraught as he was a very popular teacher. Hmm Awful when it all came out, although the school had been following advice very strictly.

NotJustACigar · 17/10/2021 18:07

The brother of our lovely art teacher murdered her parents and all her other siblings. Her ex-husband also taught at the school and he took her put of class to tell her in the hallway. I'll never forget the sound of her anguished screams

The French teacher got pregnant by a 17 year old student and left school.

The English teacher was an alcoholic who hit a student and also had affairs with students.

The science teacher was a creationist.

The shop teacher was incompetent and a boy lost a finger on a circular saw because of it.

This was at a rural southern boarding school in America where I grew up.

Paddingtonthebear · 17/10/2021 18:07

My form teacher passed away very suddenly in my first year of secondary, everyone was very shocked.

In y10 a girl got pregnant and just left without finishing school, everyone was very shocked.

Teacher being hit with snooker balls in a sock

SilverGlassHare · 17/10/2021 18:09

One of the sixth form boys died in a car crash while his parents were on holiday. They’d left him in charge of his younger sister who was also at our school.
