What was THE INCIDENT at your secondary school?

Inspired by a thread on another website that I randomly came across throught google.

Every school has some sort of 'infamous incident' that passed into the annals of school infamy and was the sole topic of gossip for months if not years.

What was yours?

Mine was the head teacher had an affair with another teacher. Both were married. It all became public on the last day of term and neither of them came back the following term. Just disappeared. No one talked about anything else for a long time.
@Chipsinthewoods. I went to the local village 'rival' school! Did not know about Lions. From a circus on the Green?
Must be honest, not the school I went to but a story from a teacher at dd school. I was dubious but it checked out on google Grin

Female teacher who was married to a male teacher had an affair with another female teacher - all at the same school. Anyway the "not so secret" affair officially came out leading to both female teachers deciding to leave. Both are still together, happy and teaching at other schools.

At my brother's school a female art teacher in her early 30s was seeing and got pregnant by a sixth former. Apparently this wasn't her first sixth former either. She may have also been married as well but not sure.

@thisisnotmyllama

My friend tripped over while queueing for lunch and cut her knee open on a fire extinguisher (not sure how!). There was lots of blood and another friend screamed because she could see the bone. Friend whose knee it was didn’t even feel it happen! She had to go to hospital and have seven stitches, internal and external.

A girl in another year died from an asthma attack at school. Her older sister, who was also a pupil there at the time, went on to become famous and I’ve seen an interview with her where she talked about her sister’s death and that the teachers just had no idea what to do. I’d like to think that wouldn’t happen today.

Two other pupils died in road accidents during my time at secondary school as well. Three deaths in seven years - seems like a lot!

Did you go to an all girls school in West London? The senior school I went to, a girl died of an asthma attack at school (I only ended up at the school because my sister got in after passing the 11+ and they only had space for her because of that poor girl). Also the older sister of one of my friends/classmates was killed in a road accident - there could also have been more road accidents involving other years!

14-year-old girl gang-raped in the toilets and gave birth at 15 years old.

One boy in my year hanged himself after being caught with cannabis in the school. His parents were very strict. Such a waste. I still think about him 30 years after the event.

I posted up about thread about the biggest thing ever happening at my school was a few year 10 girls stepping over a three foot wall. I guess reading all these threads, I must officially have gone to the most boring and bland school in the U.K !

BlackeyedSusan · 21/10/2021 18:35

Which makes you very lucky redhilary

Some very sad stories on this thread. Some show how much pressure is on teens at that age of life, and how important a supportive school environment is for students.

There was a rumour that our maths teacher had been in a porn movie. It turned out it was true! Someone had the VHS tape and most of the students got to see it, it was copied, etc. It was when he was much younger but certainly him. The boys were jealous because he was in a threesome, and it was hard not to imagine him naked in class Blush. It was totally denied, but he left at the end of the school year.

akitamiss · 21/10/2021 19:54

Our history teacher left class in a rush one day, and left a bag in the class. Some of my class mates looked through the bag and found a "sex diary" of sorts. A few pages were photocopied for later reading, and the book put back in her bag.

The pages were a great source of interest. Were they real events? Fiction? She was married with two young kids, but had she really slept with her BIL? Had a wank in the imperial war museum? I still wonder!! There was a suggestion to photocopy more and leave them in the head office, but luckily we didn't do that.

I was in secondary school during the tumultuous 60s and early 70s on the US.
One of our most popular cheerleaders , along with her father and grandfather was murdered by her brother during the Thanksgiving Holiday..very, very, very traumatising as the family was known and liked by all...it was rumoured that he had a flashback from LSD he'd consumed at a party. It had to be something like that because he was a model student, athlete, school class representative who seemed to adore his family

TrickorSweets21 · 06/11/2021 19:34

Also, didn't realise that we had a future serial killer in our midst! He was the nicest fellow although he was a bit of a class clown who entertained me since I sat beside him in political science class. His kind, single mum worked at the school so she was terribly embarrassed by his poor behaviour....At the 20th class reunion I asked a classmate where Joseph was as I had some old photos to give him....the response was..."Well, ummm, Joseph is incarcerated" the chap didn't tell me why and I didn't ask because I was so shocked...how could Sweet Joseph have wound up in prison? Made a beeline over to some other friends and asked them why Joseph was incarcerated...the answer...He had killed multiple young ladies over a few years timeHalloween Shock and buried them in his mum's garden thereby causing him to be classified as a serial killer..I am relieved to report that he is still in prison and will never see the light of day outside of the walls.

The incident I remember is a boy who had been constantly bullied suddenly flipping out and putting one of the bullies in hospital. Think that was year 10.

AlistairCamel · 06/11/2021 21:52

There were a couple of pupil teacher relationships. One an actual teacher and lower sixth, another was a trainee teacher and an upper sixth pupil who was nearly 19. That one you could tell the teachers felt very uncomfortable about as the situation was more complex.

The thing that stands out in my mind was an upper sixth pupil making out with a ski instructor (from an external school trip company) on our coach, in full view of everyone. The actual teachers were stunned and didn’t know what to do. They seemed to ignore it and waited for a service station until the middle of France to break it to the teacher in charge of the trip to deal with. By the end of that trip she was broken and vowed never to run a ski trip again.

thisisnotmyllama · 07/11/2021 10:05

@Rememberallball No, it was an all girls school but not West London.

Heatherjayne1972 · 19/03/2022 12:50

Affairs between teachers and pupils seem to be almost run of the mill back in the years before safeguarding. Sad times
We had a man with an axe chase two boys outside the school
And a rumour about two siblings who were sleeping together apparently.
