What was THE INCIDENT at your secondary school?

Inspired by a thread on another website that I randomly came across throught google.

Every school has some sort of 'infamous incident' that passed into the annals of school infamy and was the sole topic of gossip for months if not years.

What was yours?

Mine was the head teacher had an affair with another teacher. Both were married. It all became public on the last day of term and neither of them came back the following term. Just disappeared. No one talked about anything else for a long time.

Outing myself here.
We had a school disco and we used song 'I'm too Sexy' by Right Said Fred.
The nuns banned it. That was as scandalous as it got.

Two female teachers were lesbians. It was a Catholic school and although homosexuality was becoming more widely accepted it hadn’t quite reached our small norther town and certainly not the Catholic school. One of the teachers was very quiet, gentle spoken, would regularly cry with the stress of high school teaching or just having to deal with the shits that we were as teenagers. The other a very stereotypical manly looking p.e teacher, lots of rumours about her making advances against girls, one girl left the school, the rumour was she’d had an affair with the p.e teacher. All these years later I actually believe the rumours. Although I moved away a lot of my school friends still live in the town and surrounding villages, everyone knows everyone’s business. Quite a lot of them are teachers themselves now teaching in our old high school, one was the daughter of another teacher at school when we were there, they have said that everything at school as 100% true, the teacher in question became a headmistress who was eventually forced into early retirement after an investigation into sexual harassment and bullying was launched. Even if I hadn’t have seen the newspaper articles I think I’d have believed she was capable of anything.
I am wondering whether this was my school! Was it a girls school?

When the 15/16 year olds went on strike!! Made the local papers. Can’t remember why though!! It was around 1977.
Wonder if it was the same school but ours did that too in 77 or 78 - girls striking to wear trousers, made the evening chronicle!

But more famous was when our form tutor Mr Madison bought a brand new MG metro and parked it at the top of a long flight of steps. But forgot to put the handbrake on. He didn't believe us when we told him his car was rolling down the steps 😂😂

Oh Lordy this dragged up so many memories. My kids went to a school with so many ‘incidents’ that became ‘lore’ but believe me, they were all true!
Firstly Dep Head was fired for hitting a parent at a social event- that was a huge shame because he was brilliant and was provoked. The following year all of the schools brand new computers were stolen by a pupil, he literally walked out with them and passed them over a wall to his ‘driver’.
There’s a few more but one of the most infamous was the last day of school and some of the 5th yr kids broke in and let livestock (goats/sheep) into the school building. It was crazy behaviour but these kids were ‘untouchable’ and the following year when my son got to the end of his 5th yr, so as not to risk a repeat, they were all sent home a day early so never got to even say goodbye to their mates- I swear this had a huge effect on all of them.

On a residential geography field trip we were given freetime in a seaside town one afternoon. Some of the upper sixth got drunk, and the headboy was caught shoplifting and punched the shopkeeper.

A few weeks later the head of geography had to go back to the seaside town with him for his court case

On the same trip.on the way home the coach dropped one teacher off before we reached school and as we drove off the back seat boys all mooned at her out the back window (1980s)

PotteringAlong · 17/10/2021 18:29

Severed head in the long jump pit - someone had killed someone, dismembered the body and chucked it out over various junctions of the m6 if I remember rightly.

2 6th formers (my year) caught having sex in a cupboard but then isolated together, which seemed odd even at the time, where they just carried on having more sex Confused

Newpuppymummy · 17/10/2021 18:29

PE teacher was gay and had a relationship with a female pupil. It’s only just occluded to me this was child abuse!!

Quickchangeartiste · 17/10/2021 18:29

@TravellingSpoon

A teacher who was sentenced for possessing child pornography. After that came out a pupil he had taught at another school came forward and stated he had been abused by the teacher and he went to jail for a further 2 years. That part was after I left though.
We may have been at the same school! Or just a lot of dodgy teachers out there in the bad old days …
GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 17/10/2021 18:30

Aeons ago, but the new headmistress decided to ban Christmas present giving between pupils - even though for most of us it’d have been something so small and cheap anyway.

I was in the 6th form at the time, and virtually the whole school - at least the older ones - ignored her edict and exchanged more presents than we would have anyway! There was a seriously revolutionary atmosphere - added hugely to our enjoyment of the last day of term.

The head was of course ‘greatly saddened and disappointed’ and all of us who’d disobeyed her officious rule were summoned to her study to be told what a disappointment we were. We were defiant and refused to give a stuff. The queue was hundreds long!

It even made made the local paper - revolution at X Girls’ School! It was a grammar and supposedly the best for miles, so we really chortled at that, too.

Riv · 17/10/2021 18:31

Very tame incidents in comparison to others.
A newly qualified teacher had an affair with a 5th former (15 yea old) He had to leave, but later married her and they're still together.
"some boys" (Wink ) threw a very popular form teacher into the nearby local pond one lunch time at the end of the school year. He took it in good part (in the end).

SlamLikeAGuitar · 17/10/2021 18:31

The rumour always circulated that the terrifyingly huge, grouchy maths teacher who’d taught at the school since my parents attended, used to dangle students caught smoking in the toilets out of windows by their ankles.
Another eccentric food tech teacher always seemed a bit unsteady and flighty, and the rumour was that she sipped vodka all day from a water bottle. That rumour was proven very much true when she passed out drunk in the staff room one lunch time. Needless to say she wasn’t seen again after that Confused

@Nutrigrainygoodness

Our science teacher put a student on the floor. From what I remember the student ran at the teacher and the teacher wrestled the student to the ground, maybe a bit aggressively. Was gossip long after he left (years after this incident)
This reminds me of our chemistry teacher carting a pupil through the school kicking and screaming, he was carrying him under his arm like he was a naughty toddler having a tantrum. Although we were shocked watching it, it was quite comical to watch too. The teacher was easily 7 ft tall like a bean pole, very gentle, the last teacher you would expect to loose his temper. The lad he was carrying was in my year and got kicked out shortly after.

Another teacher hit one of my classmates in RE, I think he forgot the years of hitting kids had passed. The lad who got hit was very restrained. It wasn’t common knowledge at school, but he was quite a skilled boxer and went on to box professionally after school.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 17/10/2021 18:33

We had some terrible times in my school when I was there. In year 7 there was a female teacher sent to prison for child abuse - she had been grooming boys and would go to the leavers events and have sex with them. This was back in the early/mid 90s so it was very rare for a woman to be even investigated or accused of these things so it was really shocking. A girl a few years younger than me died at our local hospital after playing on the escalators, it was a tragic accident and hopefully her death was quick. We also in 1997 (I think) had a really sad case where a teenage girl went missing, it was thought she'd run away but she had been murdered by a male pupil she had been kind to (he was known as a horrible person and a bully and he made my blood run cold even then but we would never have imagined him capable of this).

Mumoblue · 17/10/2021 18:36

A girl in the year above mine was arrested for making multiple fake bomb threats. The school got evacuated like six times, and we all just had to stand on the field for ages. I don’t actually know if they charged her but I saw her in the police car. Teachers were very keen for us to never mention it again.

Another girl in my maths class got pregnant at 14. She left school for a bit to have the baby, came back but kept having to leave in the middle of the day because her mum would phone her and whinge about looking after the baby. I hope she did alright in the end.

OhWhyNot · 17/10/2021 18:36

Out school (all girls) had a planned fight with another girls school. All the pupils knew about it and about 200 marched off chanting fight fight. This was all over a boy

We watched from a window of the local department store. Next day it was rumoured a knife was used (they had all gone from the canteen)

It made the Sun cartoon Grin

Another a teacher and a pupil relationship, well he was abusing her. The story he would tell is that she babysat for him. The police arrived one day and he went off with them never to return

In my middle school the woodwork teacher would have lunch with a pupil in his cupboard. He disappeared one day never to return

10yearwarranty · 17/10/2021 18:38

Mr Blow the music teacher (yep, you couldn't make it up!). Found by police to have a runaway 6th form girl under his bed. I think they ended up marrying, it was quite an age gap.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 17/10/2021 18:39

Head teacher was found to be having sex with a year 5 pupil (Year 11 in current times) He was arrested, charged and sent to prison, this was happening on a weekend due to him giving her tennis lessons. The mother reported it when she found out, she was also having an affair with him.

NotFrozen · 17/10/2021 18:40

PE teacher was fired for apparently being a lesbian. An assembly was called to tell the entire school and a letter sent home to parents. Disgusting homophobia. It was a religious school. In hindsight I think she was probably only in her 20s, it must have been terrible for her.

MydogWillow · 17/10/2021 18:41

A pregnancy at 12
2 x heavily pregnant while doing O'Levels
Had two incidents of train track suicides Sad so many pupils delayed for school
Planned fight with a rival school (all girls...Confused) with forks stolen from the canteen and chains taken off the loo cisterns. (Was the era of Warriors Hmm) Was taken very seriously and lots of buzz around the school but came to nothing.

ArabellaScott · 17/10/2021 18:43

Someone bringing an unexploded ordinance into school and playing football with it in geography. Army called in and a ontrolled explosion in the playing fields, once the teachers worked out what was going on.

QueenAdreena · 17/10/2021 18:45

A stabbing.

The PE teacher at my school was a lesbian too. She was having it off with the Head of English. The music teacher was rumoured to be an old perv, the physics teacher was said to rub his cock along the edge of the desk, drugs were freely used on the back field and one girl was taken into care after driving a stolen car into the front of an off-license.

A grammar school education isn't all it's cracked up to be!

BarefootHippieChick · 17/10/2021 18:48

Mine got burnt down, it was hated that much!
