What was THE INCIDENT at your secondary school?

Inspired by a thread on another website that I randomly came across throught google.

Every school has some sort of 'infamous incident' that passed into the annals of school infamy and was the sole topic of gossip for months if not years.

What was yours?

Mine was the head teacher had an affair with another teacher. Both were married. It all became public on the last day of term and neither of them came back the following term. Just disappeared. No one talked about anything else for a long time.

It was the boys who made a bomb then took it round to a teacher's house to blow him up. He wasn't there so they set it off anyway, it didn't do that much damage. The Police were involved but it was decided it would be best for the boys not to go through the criminal justice system but instead to remain at school to complete their education, although they were isolated from the other kids when not in class.

I still can’t think about the Incident at my school without feeling traumatised, let alone write it down, even though I wasn’t involved.

Starfish1021 · 17/10/2021 19:08

Biology teacher having an affair with a sixth form pupil. She had his baby, but didn’t leave the school immediately. The English teacher that got drunk at the same pub as all the sixth form students and often came on to some of the boys. He eventually left/sacked

Head of Department in an inappropriate relationship with a 15 year old girl from the school. He was rightly jailed for his stupid predatory behaviour but I felt for the girl, she was from a troubled home and victim blamed by some staff and pupils.

Mummyoflittledragon · 17/10/2021 19:09

I don’t remember any Earth shattering scandal. Massive fight between our school and rival school, which I only found out about after the event. I was pretty sure when in the 6th form that a girl was dating a teacher but they were very discreet and I didn’t talk about it as I’m not a gossip. The one thing, which really stays with me is the death of 2 students in 1987 when the Zeebrugge ferry, The Herald of Free Enterprise capsized.

NewlyGranny · 17/10/2021 19:09

Y11 boys running a prostitution ring pimping underage Y9 girls. Went on at lunchtimes in various on-campus locations; contraception was the cling film from their lunch boxes secured with elastic bands. The brains behind it was the Head Boy. "Clients" were charged $2.50 and the girls got 50¢. This was late '60s. The girls were what we would now call vulnerable and were probably groomed by the high profile older boys pretending to be their boyfriends. 🤬 All hushed up to protect boys' reputations as some had influential parents.

EspressoDoubleShot · 17/10/2021 19:12

I have never read anything as galling as that on mn @NewlyGranny
Utterly grim

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 17/10/2021 19:12

A freestanding wall collapsed in high winds at break time, falling onto the students sheltering from the wind
A girl was crushed to death 🙁

Sproutpie · 17/10/2021 19:13

@Mercedes519 I think we went to the same school. Also a girl got fingered in the art supplies cupboard during the lesson. The geography teacher and maths teacher had an affair that was messy. Neither of them ever smiled, she was a complete bitch to her pupils.

janj2301 · 17/10/2021 19:13

in 6th form a girl got pregnant (out of wedlock in the 60s) she only had triplets!!!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 17/10/2021 19:13

Teachers having an affair at my school too. The male teacher was sacked, he and his wife were both teachers at the school.

Also we had a teacher who was allegedly sacked from his previous job as a uni lecturer as he had a relationship with a student.

Georgyporky · 17/10/2021 19:13

Teacher who was perpetually pregnant/on mat leave.

Her DH was found guilty of "importuning" - front page news that her DH was homosexual whilst it was still illegal.

GinPin2 · 17/10/2021 19:15

Cannot think of anything at all apart from, there was a boy in my class, when we were 13 year olds, who collapsed from a brain hemorrhage in the gym.
Sadly he died after a second minor operation having survived the first major operation. Sad

Biscoffee · 17/10/2021 19:15

A teacher was murdered during the school day.

An alcohol music teacher who would drink vodka from a cup during class. She was lovely and a friend of my family. Her sister had died when in her 30’s and she never got over it. Another one of our teachers would have lunch with her and it was my job to heat their soup up on a Bunsen burner in the science lab. I loved both of them. They were lovely women.

A school friend. One of twins. She was very petite. Very child like. She became pregnant at 14. I’ve no idea who by. She left school and went to a mother and baby home after her uncle who was a priest arranged it. I never so her again and 50 years later I still think of her.

A very cruel teachers solicitor husband being imprisoned for fraud. I still can’t feel sorry for her.

The nicest boy in the school being run over and dying of his injuries.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 17/10/2021 19:16

Tragically, a girl got pregnant and her own father was the father. To our credit I think we were all appalled by this rather than scandalised/gossipy. I remember a sense of absolute shock that anything like this could ever happen.

Somanysocks · 17/10/2021 19:16

Did you all go to St Trinians? I can't think of any scandal at my school, the only thing that happened after I left was it caught fire.

Onlyfoolsandhorseswork · 17/10/2021 19:16

The year before I started two girls went to be registered and the left the school grounds
There was a fire in the block they where meant to be in and two firemen died that day trying to find them

It was the gossip for years

Sleepyteach · 17/10/2021 19:17

New boy at school in year 10 (had been either expelled or managed moved from his previous school) took a shit in the stair well we all had to walk through on our way out of the building. He thought it made him look hard, everyone else thought it meant he didn’t know how to use the toilet.

In year 8 a girl tripped in the corridor and impailed her cheek on the coat pegs. They were removed not long afterwards but the thought of it still makes me wince.

Geography teacher lost his shit and threw a chair at my friend and upended her desk because she was being a pain in the arse.

Thegirlhasnamechanged · 17/10/2021 19:18

There was the time the textiles teacher was found absolutely sloshed in the supply closet

Or, and this is really THE incident

There was an electrical fire that caused half the school to burn down. On April Fools Day. All the students were sent in that morning anyway (amongst bemused firefighters) because no parents believed it despite it being in the local breakfast news 😂

ohtwatbollocks · 17/10/2021 19:19

12 years ago my teacher slept with me, someone saw us out late at night and it got all over school, I was 16 when we slept together, but it happened days after, before that he had been messaging me and texting me. Took me starting counselling as a 25 year old to realise it wasn't really me that was in the wrong, but my other teachers and my parents were all really shit so I assumed it was me!

Cookingbynumbers · 17/10/2021 19:20

Year 11 boy got two Y11 girls pregnant on the same french exchange trip.
Still makes me cringe at how differently the girls and the boy were then treated, like he was some stud and they were dirt.
Lots of staff affairs and we knew about all of them.
Drugs raid on the school just before the exams in Y11, except the main dealer got wind of it and managed to hide it all using the very straight girls as mules. I’ve never actually admitted to my part in that one. But they found nothing.
The after parties following school productions were legend, for the couples that formed (and split fairly quickly) and the alcohol and drugs going on.
Part of me still hopes the younguns now get to kick back without major repercussions tbh.

itsgettingwierd · 17/10/2021 19:21

There was one in my ds school.

Kid pulled a knife on another in class.

The victim was ds. He never went back. School informed me of incident.

School then tried to deny it happened and stated that if it has everyone would be talking about it.

Ds now in 2nd year of college.

Since he started any pupil from that school who finds out his name brings it up!

I'm amazed the school even thought something like that would be kept secret - let alone unmentioned 🤦🏼‍♀️

OhWhyNot · 17/10/2021 19:22

MydogWillow Shock other girls schools were fighting too in South London

An ex supply teacher who would call us naughty girls and lift up our skirts with his walking stick was in the paper earlier this year for historical sexual abuse at an elite boarding school. Not at all surprised

bluebeck · 17/10/2021 19:23

So many!

Two married PE teachers having a long term affair.

Music Teacher, who was married to English Lit teacher, had sexual relationship with 14 year old student.

Student ran amok with a rifle and shot all the rabbits in the quad completely outs self

DeborahAnnabel · 17/10/2021 19:24

Our wonderful headmistress had been “seen” at AA. It most likely was true however it saddened me and does to this day that I know this, that the confidentiality had been broken.
