Can someone explain what my son saw?

My DS (14) and his friends went for a walk deep in the woods yesterday. They came across four people standing in a circle with candles and markings on the ground. Two were dressed in all black, very smart, like priests. The other two were in normal clothes and were bleeding from their arms. My son said he saw them cut themselves, they were mumbling something inaudible while the two in all black held their arms in the air and chanted. When they realised they were being watched one of the people in black told the boys they were going to cut their heads off if they don’t leave. I know it’s true because one of the kids filmed it and I’ve watched it. Wtf!?

This thread is gold. I've bookmarked the changing bag thread for later. Can't believe I missed that one. Grin

This is definitely not witchcraft. I practice Wicca and no such thing exists inside a coven or for solitary witches.

I suspect this is a form of satanic ritual which is best left alone. I would encourage your son not to go deep into the woods.

In no way would anyone practicing Magick threaten to cut someone's head off. This is a dark ritual and should be respected and left alone.

I’m just not buying the blessing/initiation/ritual aspect. These would surely be important events to people who would treat them with the associated reverence. I don’t see how the (absolute shit) attire of the two and what looks like an horrendous fake wig of the one in a robe fits that billHmm.

I’m thinking it’s more likely a rehearsal for some self-filming stupidity with Halloween coming up. I’d say they met up and two of them looked at the other two and said they didn’t realise it was an actual dress rehearsal, the other two thought it had been fairly clear and they even had the props (pumpkin etc), there were a few tense moments and then they all plodded off to do the rehearsal. They were embarrassed at being caught by OPs son and friends looking like such dicks (with two ill prepared at that) and overreacted.

they will learn to become much more balanced, it is after all, a path of development and each of us have different areas we need to improve.

Yeah let's hope they can refrain from threatening to decapitate people next time. They could perhaps reflect on this in their professional development plan. Ffs.

This is a parenting forum populated largely by frazzled, middle class premenopausal women. We've been excitedly arguing about a second hand changing bag in a charity shop for several weeks now. The chances of any of us having insider knowledge of satanic forest rituals are quite slim, tbh.
This has made my day!!! Lewes and Brighton are popular for cults. But there are some names of experts in this article. www.theargus.co.uk/news/959678.citys-residents-are-the-least-likely-to-follow-a-major-religion

TBH, I think this is fake news.
If it were real, I'd expect where and when for a start. There are not many places you can go "deep in the woods", without coming to the other side, the car park, icecream shop, ranger station or whatever. For that matter, if something interesting were happening in the woods around here, there'd already be a crowd of spectators.

My DH and I were walking in a local woodland area on Sunday afternoon and I saw a person dressed in a long black hooded robe running along a path... My DH saw him too when I pointed it out.
We just thought it was a weirdo!!!

This made me laugh. There’s your answer OP, what your son saw was weirdos in the wood.
Fatredwitch · 19/10/2021 16:31

I can vouch for the fact that, when you go to the woods for a ritual in natural surroundings, some nosey bugger is guaranteed to come wandering by. Our most awkward time was when we had gone to an ancient outcrop of rocks, high on a hill, at twilight. We had set up the candles and cast the circle before we realised that the Territorial Army was in the same area, on manoeuvres. They kept thundering past us, and we kept singing Happy Birthday so that they didn't wonder about the candles. In the end, we decided to just sit down and enjoy the Cakes and Ale. A pagan ritual inevitably involves Cakes and Ale. We like our food.

I wouldn't be surprised if the people in the photo are making a goth video, though it's possible that they are pagans. Some people like dressing up. I am not familiar with people offering their blood but it's not impossible. Some Christian festivals featured people whipping themselves till they bled, in atonement for their sins, and a few still exist. Some Hindu sadhus mortify their flesh to raise their spiritual consciousness. Pagans tend to celebrate the physical body rather than despise it, but it's possible.

As for the threat... Is that on the video? Otherwise I would wonder, knowing how 14 year old boys are, if the lads had embellished their story a bit to make it more exciting. If it's on the video, I would guess that it's a stupid outburst by an exasperated actor or an equally exasperated pagan. The latter seems pretty unlikely, though. Pagans are fairly well accustomed to intrusions.

As for Satanists, they don't really belong in the pagan camp. They are His Majesty's Loyal Opposition for Christianity.

AlfonsoTheDinosaur · 19/10/2021 16:45

As for the threat... Is that on the video?

I thought the threat was more of a hyperbolic warning - 'go away, you pesky kids, or we'll cut your heads off' - than a genuine threat to decapitate.

Oswina · 19/10/2021 17:13

There's a lot if talk of Hell and Heaven on this thread.

One thing I never understood was how you appear in Heaven. It is supposed to be like a utopia, everyone is happy and their best selves. So, does 90-year-old grandma go to Heaven as a 90-year-old or would she deage to whichever she she wanted to be? Maybe she wants to be 18 again. If her grandson dies at age 16, do they chill in Heaven together as teenagers?

If parents and their baby die in a car crash, does the baby stay a baby? Is it really Heaven if the parents still have to do night-feeds and change nappies?

If my father wants to drink too much in Heaven, then it may be his Heaven but it wouldn't be my Heaven...

How can you have one place where everyone is at their happiest when people's happiness so often is not in tune with
other people's happiness?

Well tbf we don’t know either way. OP isn’t exactly forthcoming with all the details.

On a strange thread full of strange comments is it strange that I find this the strangest? There’s many miles of woods near me with no car parks, ice cream shops or rangers stations ( do we have those in UK?)
