Hot chocolate - milk or water...

So everyone in my house minus me and dd are hot chocolate fanatics, DS absolutely loves them, so went shopping with a friend, was picking up a pack of hot chocolate, they always say mix with hot water.... now we’ve always made ours with milk despite what it says on the packet, friends says she always uses water. I don’t even drink it but the thought of it being mixed with water makes me cringe.... so are you a water or a milk person?

Always hot milk in this house, it has to be the stuff in tins not the sachets.

neededafart · 14/10/2021 21:09

Milk here too

dementedpixie · 14/10/2021 21:09

I buy the one that tells you to mix with milk
Some already have milk powder in them so you'd add water

Oh yeah, has to be the tins... we’ve got a couple on the go right now, Lindt, malteasers, options, galaxy and now clippers as Ocado subbed it for the one we actually order.

Milk always.

I could never be friends with someone who uses water

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 14/10/2021 21:10

Milk! I don't buy the stuff which says you have to mix with water.

Definitely milk - making it with hot water feels miserably Dickensian Grin

Thepurpleturtle · 14/10/2021 21:11

Milk 100%

IhateBoswell · 14/10/2021 21:12

Milk, even if it said water.

Flufferty · 14/10/2021 21:12

Milk

Rainbowshit · 14/10/2021 21:13

You've bought shit hot chocolate if it says mix with water. Milk always.

SylvanasWindrunner · 14/10/2021 21:14

Always milk! Water is nowhere near as nice.

JudgeRindersMinder · 14/10/2021 21:14

Milk. Making it with water is for savages!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 14/10/2021 21:14

Milk.

And you need to get a Velvetiser Wink

uhtredsonofuhtred1 · 14/10/2021 21:14

I was shocked last week when my PIL asked me to make a hot chocolate and they looked horrified when I went to make it using hot milk only. They make it like a cup of coffee, powder, sugar, splash of milk and the rest hot water 🤮 looked like gravy

OddsNSodsBitsNBobs · 14/10/2021 21:20

Milk, have they tried Sloanes? It's to die for!

NauseousNancy · 14/10/2021 21:22

I am so snobby about my hot chocolate since I got a velvetiser a few years ago. I couldn’t go back to anything else now!! If you have a house full of hot chocolate lovers it would go down very well!!

LittleMysSister · 14/10/2021 21:24

Both for me :) I make it like a tea.

Xfox · 14/10/2021 21:30

I'm clearly a bit feral - for the powdered milk ones I do 1/4 milk, mixed to a gloop, then topped up with hot water.

SylvanasWindrunner · 14/10/2021 21:32

I make it with milk, marshmallows, sqooshy cream on top and then sprinkled with either cinnamon or chocolate powder. Hmm now I am going to go make one Grin

seriousandloyal · 14/10/2021 21:46

Always milk

swapsicles · 14/10/2021 21:51

Proper hot chocolate powder needs milk
The instant sachets are supposed to be used with water, so depends which one you're using.
I really like the one we have at work but checked the ingredients and it's just cocoa powder and sugar, so simple but tastes really good although not quite mastered the ratios of sugar/cocoa/milk at home yet!

GTAlogic · 14/10/2021 21:58

Milk. Always. The nicest hot chocolate I've made was when I stirred some chocolate curls or shavings into some warm milk and single cream. I also stirred in some vanilla paste whilst heating up the milk and cream.

nocoolnamesleft · 14/10/2021 22:05

Water only in dire emergency. Definitely better with milk.
