Creamy Cajun Hotdog Stew £3.00 mostly on fresh ready to eat hotdogs £2.50 and 1/3 tub of soured cream, otherwise just spices, Tabasco, tomato and garlic purées and some frozen mixed peppers and chopped frozen onion.

Margarita pizza was on offer 75pence 2/3rds eaten, rest for tomorrow so 50pence

£3.50 for 4 people so 87.5p per person

TheLastLonelyBakedBeanInTheTin · 13/10/2021 19:44

If I do the hot dog stew with cheap hot dogs I can take £2 off that and sometimes needs must!

MrsFin · 13/10/2021 19:44

For two people: "naice" sausages from the butcher (3 each) £3.50, cabbage from the fridge and potatoes from the fridge.

I hate calculating, I never do this.

Tonight I made teriyaki salmon with rice.
Used 3 salmon, leak, carrot, red pepper, ginger, garlic, sesame oil, dashi soup powder, Japanese vinegar, mirin, soy sauce, s&p, rice flour, corn flour, and rice.

Salmon was £12. 50 for 6, so it's about £6. 25 for salmon, plus vegs and rice and other ingredients, so maybe about £8/£9 in total? so about £3 a person?

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 13/10/2021 19:47

Yesterday’s dinner would have been way more expensive up front - 6 huge free range organic chicken thighs in a homemade curry with yoghurt and ground almonds, plus a vat of dal tadka, which we had with rice and naan and a cucumber and tomato salad. But the two main elements made 5 meals each so it’ll still work out cheap overall.

Just finished eating the fish burgers and they properly hit the spot!😋😋

Xiaoxiong · 13/10/2021 19:47

If it's made from something you bought 5 months ago, didn't get round to using, and bunged in the freezer before it went off, now defrosted because you are all out of cooking mojo, does that count as free? Asking for a friend...

LucyGrey · 13/10/2021 19:47

Too much. We had McDonalds though at DS2's request because it's his birthday. Last night was much cheaper (homemade lentil and bacon soup) probably around £1 pp if that.

Sausagis · 13/10/2021 19:48

Southern fried Chicken 10pc £3, cooked 6 so £1.80
Coleslaw, yellow sticker, 40p

£6.10, 4 people, £1.53 each

Iwab82 · 13/10/2021 19:49

Mince 3.50

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 13/10/2021 19:50

Sorry not 5 meals each. 5 meals. Still it’ll work out hardly anything per person.

playmelikeasymphony · 13/10/2021 20:10

I’m eating a bowl of rice krispies reading this thread. I’ve been out all day (was treated to lunch, had a burger) and needed something quick.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 13/10/2021 20:12

We had a pasta bake - chicken, a head of broccoli, a good shake of frozen peas, carton of single cream, a splash of white wine, a teaspoon of tapenade, and a clove of garlic. Plus pasta cooked in a stock cube. Maybe £1 per person, but in reality the only things that were bought were the broccoli and the cream, the rest was in the freezer/cupboards.

LynetteScavo · 13/10/2021 20:12

Well it was £8 with of ingredients - I cooked enough for 4 people, so £2 each. Two people didn't turn up, so atm it's £4 eachHmm.

One of those people just waltz in with a McDonalds give me strength DS2 might eat some later...I really don't want to have it for lunch tomorrow as it's definitely not my favourite.
