Free.

Baby gets dinner provided by nursery.
I've been at a free piss up with work.

His father (who left us 2 months ago so doesn't count) has fed, bathed and put baby to bed (for once).

I'm almost home and will straight to bed. DS will wake around 6.45 and we'll all be well rested.

ToastieSnowy · 13/10/2021 21:15

All from Aldi:
Sausage £1.99
Potatoes for mash 59p
Bit of butter 5p
Branston beans 42p
Doughnuts 27p (yellow sticker in Asda)
Or
Cookie. 12p (yellow sticker in Asda)

Total £3.44 to feed 1 adult & 2 teens.

Quite impressed with myself tonight, I have succumbed to take aways for convenience lately and had forgotten how cheap cooking your own food can be.

Underamour · 13/10/2021 21:19

Beef mince £2.50
Sweetcorn £0.33
Mexican flavouring £0.75
Torilla £.99

For five so about a pound each. Nobody is very hungry at the hungry

I made slices of pork with garlic and onions plus mashed potatoes and broccoli/white cabbage.
Meat €4.00
Veg €3.50
Milk, butter, salt, stock cube etc. €1.00
Fruit €2.00
2 glasses of Wine €1.00
Half a bar of Ritter Sport dark chocolate €1.00.
€12.50/3 = just over €4 per person.
Not counting fuel costs.

My weekly shop is €150 for everything, so €7 per person per day.
During lockdown I went as low as €5 for three meals a day but that was time consuming because I was buying in bulk, cooking dried beans, portioning whole chickens etc.

Moment

Gingerwarthog · 13/10/2021 21:21

Split pea and vegetable soup (homemade)
Half a bag of split peas = 25p
Two carrots = 10p (40p a bag)
One red onion =31p (85p for three)
Small piece of butter= 30p at the most
Bread (Tiger sliced loaf) = 85p for the loaf - we used half, say 42p
Total = £1.38
Four helpings with 2 slices of bread = 34.5p

Bumpinthenight · 13/10/2021 21:25

So £6 for 3 of us = £2 each.

stillonthattightrope · 13/10/2021 21:26

Ingredients box curry tonight so quite expensive.
£4.37 per portion.

I've paused for a couple of weeks as we're a bit skint so will get a good discount voucher shortly to start up again. 😄

juicyjanuary · 13/10/2021 21:26

Takeaway
Indian lamb chops
Vegetable curry
Chicken tikka
2 x Nan breads

£0

(But only because the lamb was raw inside. I complained and got the offer of a free takeaway next time I order).

SquirrelFan · 13/10/2021 21:32

Two salmon fillets 2.50
One chicken thigh (marinated, from butcher) 1.75
One cup of basmati rice ~50p?
String beans from farmers' market - I actually have no idea - £2?
About £6-7 for the three of us?
Oh, and wine Blush

ShrikeAttack · 13/10/2021 21:36

Good question!

We had tandoori chicken, two packets of organic thighs, about £7 each, so £14
Tub of yoghurt, fresh ginger, garlic, spices, £2 = £16

Mushroom pilau, Mushrooms £1, rice 50p, onion and spices 50p = £2

Bombay potatoes (double carbs ahoy!) Potatoes £1, onion, garlic, spices 50p = £1.50

Raita yoghurt £1.80, 1/3 cucumber 25p, 1/2 onion 10p, large tomato 50p, fresh corriander 50p, mint from garden = £3.05

Gujerati carrot salad, a couple of carrots, mustard seeds, lemon juice = £.75

Coriander chutney, rest of the bunch of Coriander, various other bits £1.20

Poppadoms, mango chutney, maybe £.50

So £25 for four but DH and I will have leftovers for lunch tomorrow.

Approx £4.16 per portion.

Inextremis · 13/10/2021 21:39

Meatloaf and mash - so:

Pork and beef: €3.33 (used the second half of a meatloaf mix I made with 2 of the '3 for €10' offers in Tesco)
Breadcrumbs - maybe 10p? 2 slices from a white sliced loaf
1 carrot, 1 onion, 1 stick of celery - 20p total?
1 pack streaky bacon - €1
1tbs each of ketchup, maple syrup, mustard, apple cider vinegar (40c?)
Plus 1/3 pack of €2.49 potatoes (83c), butter and cheese (say, 50c?)

Works out around €3.18 per person, though there was about a third left over

Dutchesss · 13/10/2021 21:42

Frozen haddock - £5
Cous cous - 50p
Tin vegetarian chili - £1

Genuinely have no idea! I buy food shopping online for the week and dh does a butchers run on a Friday!
Tonight we are having gammon egg and chips with a salad of all the bits that need using up:
Gammon £18
Random assortment of herbs/oil/seasoning £3
Potatoes probably a third of a bag? So £1.20 ish?
Oil to fry chips £2
Eggs - free (have our own chickens)
Salad stuff - lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, cucumber, spring onions, lemons honey mustard etc for dressing - about £6 all in.
So possibly £30 and 4 of us will eat so £7.50 a head?
I’m not good at knowing prices of things as I tend to just click on what I need so a lot of the costs are guessing other than the gammon as it had a price sticker on it when dh unwrapped it. I also don’t cook much so I have no idea what other things get used Grin

cloudtree · 14/10/2021 17:48

Total cost £2.03 for all 4 of us (51p / portion)

Kezzie200 · 14/10/2021 18:29

liveforsummer · 14/10/2021 18:35

Veg chilli and tortillas for 2. Enough to have with jacket potatoes tomorrow. Might be a pound for each serving? We're not including wine, right? Grin
