We had a red lentil and vegetable cottage pie and cauliflower cheese.

It’s all cooked from stuff from bigger bags eg - a few handfuls from a big bag of lentils, half a sweed, two sticks off a celery, 2 big carrots from a bigger bag etc, bit of flour milk butter etc to make the cheese sauce etc.

I’ve probably over estimated but I’ve rounded it up to costing £8 total, did the 3 of us tonight and will do dinner tomorrow plus two small portions of the pie have gone in the freezer for dinners for DD on the days she’s not having the same as us.

So about £1 per portion

Elephantsparade · 13/10/2021 18:03

2.25pp. King prawn korma, roast cauliflower and an oven baked rice. The prawns and spices were quite a lot

Eileen101 · 13/10/2021 18:03

About 75p. Just tomato pasta sauce and spaghetti for us - a quick turnaround was needed.
DD has a wheat intolerance so her pasta bumps up the average a bit...

The price labels on the bag or the receipt are usually a give away.

But that said I’ve no idea what bread or milk or other staples cost so perhaps your question wasn’t so daft after all.

confusedofengland · 13/10/2021 18:11

Chicken curry:

Chicken £1.70 (Aldi yellow sticker)
1/2 pot natural yogurt 35p
1 spoon curry powder 20p
Squirt lemon juice 5p
Stock cube 5p
Tin tomatoes 30p
1/3 bag rice 15p
Pittas 20p (Tesco yellow label)

Total cost: £3.20
Per person (2 adults, 3 DC) 64p

SillyBub · 13/10/2021 18:11

We're having sausages, home made Yorkshire puds, carrots and broccoli with Bisto gravy. The eggs for the Yorkies are from a friend's hens so the nicest expense is the sausages. Whilst I don't know the exact cost as I don't do the shopping, it's not very much tonight.

bluechameleon · 13/10/2021 18:11

We are having a chicken curry which I made at the weekend and froze, so I can't remember exactly what was in it, but this is an approximation:
Chicken thighs £4.30
Coconut milk 85p
Peppers x 2 £1
Onions x 2 60p
Spices ?
Stock pot 50p
Possibly some other ingredient I've forgotten
= approx £2 a serving
Plus mini naan each, poppadoms, mango chutney, raita so probably about £3 a serving altogether.
The children may well just eat naan, poppadoms and carrot sticks but DH will polish off whatever they don't finish so it will balance out.

StormyTeacups · 13/10/2021 18:11

Cheapo tonight

Jacket potato: £1 for 4
Tin of beans: .60p
Cheese: .50?
Salad: 50p

£2.60 / 5

Roughly 52p each. Plus power for oven.

Looking at that we should eat them every night! 😂

Yesterday was chicken tacos, so a bit more
