I only ever hear these words on MN.
Do the people who use words like these actually use them in rl?
Equally do people who use the f and c words a lot on MN use them as much in rl?
Just curious Grin

I've always said both gosh and crikey in every day life.

lughnasadh · 12/10/2021 12:07

I use all of them, but I know my audience when it comes to fuck and cunt

OldTinHat · 12/10/2021 12:13

I always use gosh and crikey interspersed with the odd blimey.

imnottoofussed · 12/10/2021 12:22

I rarely swear, I'm more likely say Jesus, Jeepers, Jeez, for gods sake, flipping eck, stuff like that. I don't think I've ever said gosh or crikey though.

GothicaAutistica · 12/10/2021 12:24

I don't mind the big bad four letter words, but they need to be used when the situation calls for it, not just dropped into common conversation for the fun of it.

I do say "Oh my gosh." I don't know why anyone needs to bring Gd into it. If you don't believe in Them, don't invoke Them. If you do, it's better not to take Their name in vain.

I used to say "Crikey, Moses!!" quite a lot in frustration. Less so now, though.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 12/10/2021 12:25

These are my work annoyed/exclamation words. Its a polite way to express yourself.

At home its more like 'oh FOR FUCKS SAKE'

LowbrowVictoriana · 12/10/2021 12:25

I say gosh but would tend to say cripes rather than crikey. Also love a good blooming.

Being in the habit of saying those words helps stop me saying fuck to the wrong audience!

notacooldad · 12/10/2021 12:27

Gosh, crikey, blimey, flippin heck, good grief are all used in our house even by adult sons.
One son will dramatically stare Oh. MY Gosh!!! when he thinks I'm pecking his head too much!!🤣🤣

BadgeronaMoped · 12/10/2021 12:27

We always gently mock the people on the antiques roadshow with the "my goodness!" and "gosh!". I've been known to say "blimey" if I'm in a situation where swearing is inappropriate Grin

BadgeronaMoped · 12/10/2021 12:28

I do love a good "God almighty!".

LazyMareofEastown · 12/10/2021 12:29

I say crikey but only ever in an overexaggerated and godawful Australian accent a la Steve Irwin.

Gosh is horrendous. It's just so Famous Five pollyanna-ish and when I read it on here it makes me cringe.

Samanabanana · 12/10/2021 12:29

I use both and throw in the odd yikes too. I also swear like a trooper. Know your audience Grin

LowbrowVictoriana · 12/10/2021 12:31

Can you imagine on the Antiques Roadshow if, on being told that that scabby old painting they'd had for years was worth £30K, the punter then exclaimed "Fucking hell!"

Would have to be shown after the watershed!

GothicaAutistica · 12/10/2021 12:31

I must admit to being a bit bewildered when an atheist friend of mine suddenly exclaimed "Oh Jesus!" It just seemed so weird coming from a non-believer.

I'm mildly religious, but not Christian, by the way.

GothicaAutistica · 12/10/2021 12:33

@LowbrowVictoriana maybe some of them actually do and they have to either cut it or reshoot the scene! GrinWink

GemmaRuby · 12/10/2021 12:33

I would say non-believers are much more likely to say Oh Jesus. I have a friend who is a practicing Christen and finds it offensive/upsetting used in that way.

GemmaRuby · 12/10/2021 12:34

*Christian

IhateBoswell · 12/10/2021 12:34

I don't say gosh but I do like a crikey, usually said sarcastically.

JorisBonson · 12/10/2021 12:35

I'm a crikey O'Reilly fan. Also a "cripes" if the moment suits.

ChorizoJacketPotato · 12/10/2021 12:38

I do.

NigelSlatersXmasTaters · 12/10/2021 12:39

I say Gee Whizz sometimes 😂

NigelSlatersXmasTaters · 12/10/2021 12:39

Gosh is so fake and weird though

Siriisatwat · 12/10/2021 12:40

Yes my ex husband.

It used to drive me bonkers.

He uses it in a condescending way if you know what I mean.

SommerTen · 12/10/2021 12:40

I say gosh at work when I really want to say shit

FairlyOddmother · 12/10/2021 12:42

I use Blimey, and also Yikes; not averse to proper swearing if the situation/audience is appropriate
