Other than the big stuff like love, family, support, a good job... what are the small things that make your life better or give you a lift?

For me, it has to be good music, interesting podcasts and fresh flowers. Oh and a new notepad and a pen that writes nicely.

A clean tidy house with nice smelling Yankees burning
Lazy afternoons to potter & bake with DD
Long baths before bed
Proper cotton sheets & a down duvet
Nice coffee & bread
House plants
Walks in the woods or at the beach
The odd wreck up with my girlfriends

NearlyNearlyThere · 12/10/2021 14:26

A cooked breakfast every day.

IBelieveInAThingCalledScience · 12/10/2021 14:42

A very long run followed by restorative Yoga, while lovely DH entertains the children.

Hot shower and snuggly butter soft bamboo and cashmere layers.

Neroli (happy scent) or fir tree candles/oil scenting the room.

Hazel flavoured double espresso and a good audible book while waiting in the car at the school gates.

My Peloton bike/classes.

Hearing DD using her iPad AAC, which does text to speech with a cute little Scottish girl's accent. DD has ASD.

Finding a good new book series.

Hiking with DH and DC in the Autumn and Spring.

Trying a new recipe that comes out beautifully.

Planting seeds and watching them grow.

LadyofMisrule · 12/10/2021 14:53

Cats.
Being inside on a torrentially rainy day.
Audiobooks.
Nice pens.
My heated throw.
Snow.
Cats.
Cooking with beautifully sharp knives.
Seeing scraps turning into compost.
Sea swimming when it's really cold.
Perfume.
Badedas.
Did I mention cats?

My DH just bought me a massive pack of fake tattoos and that has made me really happy, not just for what they are but that he knew what to get me, and not just flowers.

My brother died last week so he thought I needed something to cheer me up.

I love fake tattoos, no idea why but I am now covered in them everywhere that can't be seen, purely for my own amusement.

Not like the time I put the remnants from a kids pack all down my left arm before doing the school run in a t shirt. It looked particularly bad as it was a mix of butterflies and pirate ones, they were a bugger to get off.

knackeredcat · 12/10/2021 15:12

Cuddles with my cat
Crisp and bright autumnal days (not soggy grey ones 😄)
Freshly brewed coffee
Paddling in the sea, especially as the sun sets
Fresh flowers
Making, the smell of and eventually sampling my mulled wine
Nice stationery
Eyebrows, eyelashes, hair and nails done
A good shower particularly after housework
Fresh bedding
The sights/sounds/smells of a nice Xmas market (York)

This has really made me laugh for some reason.

In a good way.

Sorry about your brother Flowers

My cat, spin class and a G & T

toolazytothinkofausername · 12/10/2021 16:21

Biscuits kept by the kettle Grin Gotta have a biscuit to dunk in that tea!

MintJulia · 12/10/2021 16:24

Music. The view from my kitchen in the morning, of sunrise over water meadows.

Freshly ironed bed linen, a lazy lie-in with coffee.

TheMagiciansNiece · 12/10/2021 16:36

An electric blanket
Reclining sofa
Wooden tongs so I don't burn myself in the toaster
Swan Vesta matches instead of cheap ones

FindingMeno · 12/10/2021 16:45

Caramel latte and feather pillows.

SixTwirlingTutus · 12/10/2021 16:55

Oh and deffo my cat. My 17 year old grumpy arse tortie (grumpy arse tortie has to be a tautology surely) who has a limp and one eye and who last night chased a fox away from a dead pigeon and who sleeps on the bed of my disabled son and nibbles his hair when he has nightmares.

My heart.

ThreeKneeRepeater · 12/10/2021 16:59

My granddaughter.

Finding some great books in the library.
Cocktails.

lucysmam · 12/10/2021 16:59

Coloured pens! If they're glittery too, all the better! My shopping list is usually a riot of colour, as are the crossings out on my patterns as I finish a row, and my to do lists. If it doesn't need to be in a 'sensible' ink colour, it isn't!

CornedBeef451 · 12/10/2021 18:00

@Morgan12 thanks.

My thigh "tattoos" are particularly good, they take up the whole thigh and one is a colourful lions head and the other is monochrome clock/flames thing. Both are awesome and make me smile every time I go to the loo.

Just for reference I am nearly 45 and have one, small, real tattoo.

Plantstrees · 12/10/2021 18:03

Christmas - making things and decorating everything. Just thinking about it all makes me happy.
Being outside somewhere pretty and natural, fields, woods, beach, etc
Taking photographs of the natural world - today I photographed a lovely caterpillar.
Making holiday plans
Cold sunny days - this lovely October weather is perfect for me.

BringPizza · 12/10/2021 18:08

My garden, and spending time in my greenhouse. Walking my dog on the beach.

Burnerphone21 · 12/10/2021 21:51

Living close enough to the sea to be able to get the the beach in minutes and enjoy year round dog walks on the beach.

Dolce gusto coffee machine god I love it. It's at the caravan and it's so much better than the posh delonghi one at home.

My lovely little mini rex rabbit god he is divine. He's getting a friend soon I've banned the dc from choosing some random rescue I only want another mini rex.

The idiot cocker spaniel that's as intelligent as father Dougal but he's v funny.

Decanting all sorts of things into matching jars.

Himalayan salt lamps we have 3 so far.

Burnerphone21 · 12/10/2021 21:51

The library being open again and the independent cafe that's in there. I love the librarians they know the dds names. I missed them so much,

DaphneDeloresMoorhead · 12/10/2021 21:57

DaphneDeloresMoorhead · 12/10/2021 21:59

@LazyMareofEastown

Going out for dinner a few times a month with DP

Sex

Fancy coffee on a weekend morning (even better when combined with Matt Tebbutt's forearms on Sat Kitchen).

Box sets with posh snacks

Doing my nightly skincare routine. Nowt fancy or expensive but just makes me feel relaxed and happy.

@LazyMareofEastown

If you like true crime stuff have you ever watched Seconds From Disaster ? There are loads of episodes on YouTube and I am utterly obsessed with it

Fontaine33 · 12/10/2021 22:03

What a great question and have loved reading all the posts. For me:
Mooching about the house in my pjs at the weekend with coffee
Inspecting my garden and checking on the plants
My cat
Feeding my family and friends with massive roast lunches
Wine club (first rule, we don’t talk about wine club)
Cheese
Married at first sight Australia (apologies - it unbends my mind after work)
Fresh bed linen
Going out for dinner with my husband
Music
Reading history books
White Company Seychelles

DaphneDeloresMoorhead · 12/10/2021 22:04

@Justcashnosweets

A clean house, but especially my bedroom all clean and tidy, with fresh bedding, candles on and fresh flowers. A really good cup of coffee in the morning. Unexpected wildlife sightings like seeing deer on my drive to work, or badgers snuffling about in the undergrowth, and the lovely shapes made my flocks of starlings.
Oh I love this - I get very excited on the drive home from work on my 1600 x 0200 shifts if I see wildlife. The most exciting is an owl in flight although the night I saw several deer in various different villages (it's a 30 mile drive) was also fab.
specialsauce · 12/10/2021 22:06
