What's good from Morrisons?

I've recently moved house and am now in the delivery area for Morrisons (as well as the other major supermarkets). Am thinking of giving Morrisons a go for food shopping as I've not shopped there before and fancy a change. What's particularly good/bad to get?

It will be delivery only as the actual store is quite a long way away so I doubt I'll visit in person.

@HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime my mum was in bed when the shopping arrived (works nights at a different Morrisons) so my dad got the shopping in and apparently he just accepted them. I took some and we made orange juice, orange sorbet and an orange drizzle cake, had one each for lunch for a week. None of us like marmalade or I suppose we could have made that.

@'d myself., that's was supposed to be to @IcedCoffeeAlways

I’ve been guilty of just taking the shopping in myself and ending up with some ridiculous things 😅 usually from Tesco though! At least it was something that could be used 😅

NotMyCat · 09/10/2021 12:46

@IcedCoffeeAlways those beetroot ones are amazing! Toasted with cream cheese

InFiveMins · 09/10/2021 18:31

Their bakery is by far the best of all supermarkets Grin their fresh cream desserts are amazing.

BitterTits · 09/10/2021 18:34

Their guacamole is the best supermarket one.

HermioneWeasley · 09/10/2021 19:06

OMG I had forgotten the toffee pecan roulade. I try not to buy it too often as I tend to eat the whole thing.

My local one had just opened new hot counters of wraps, pizzas, pasta, chicken and these amazing waffles. I’m going to get so fat.

ISpyCobraKai · 09/10/2021 19:18

The rhubarb trifle is definitely going on my next order.
If you're on a budget, or just want some handy frozen veg, the broc/cauli/carrot mix is surprisingly good for the price.
Also the big samosas.
It's my favourite online supermarket.

wonkylegs · 09/10/2021 19:21

I was unsure about Morrisons when we first moved here but they are actually really good
We always seem to do ok with fruit and veg. I only shop once a week and it lasts.
Love their doughnuts,
Thick granary sliced loaf
Truffle Brie (cheese counter) and cheese counter Stilton & Somerset Brie are also good
Steak & Ale pie (fridge cabinets)
Fish from fish counter is generally good although sometimes stock is a bit low.
The best frozen oven chips are good oven chips
Their own brand sanitary towels - plant based and very comfortable
At Christmas their bakery panettone is awesome
Bluebird bitter when they've got it
Generally they are a pretty good all rounder supermarket and ours has really great staff which makes me go back rather than Sainsbury's or Tesco (almost same distance)

wonkylegs · 09/10/2021 19:23

They also do palm oil free peanut butter - it's just peanuts - you need to stir it as it separates but it's really nice.

YourWinter · 10/10/2021 00:49

OP if you've been getting your meat in Asda you're going to really love Morrison's.

And to the poster who said don't eat pies, pastries and cakes... when you've finished chewing your celery, you might just find that a fabulous pie or pasty works wonders on your mood. A lovely steak pie or cheese pasty cheers me up every time!

Blackmagicqueen · 10/10/2021 07:10

At one time i would have agreed with the commenr above from YourWinter. However, Asda's lean beef steak mince is actually lovely (never any grizzle or fat) and so is their turkey mince and whole chickens!I had some absolutely awful butchers over the counter sausages and a horrible steak from morrisons so things have changed abit since i last had meat from there.

Eeiliethya · 10/10/2021 11:53

The chocolate and nut home brand Cornettos. Think it was 2 boxes for £2 and they don't scrimp on the bit of chocolate in the bottom of the cone (best bit imo).

Also the meats are good, like mince and chicken etc are regularly on 3 for a tenner.

Also the deli, there sandwich fillings are great.

Eeiliethya · 10/10/2021 11:57

I meant "their" sandwich fillings 😱.

EachandEveryone · 12/10/2021 16:11

I’m scrolling through this now while I’m shopping😂 there’s no rhubarb trifle!

SnowAndIcicles · 14/10/2021 09:23

We just moved to an area with a Morrisons and honestly we've been really disappointed.

The bakery items are awful (though that could just be our supermarket), the smoked salmon was incredibly salty and their halloumi was so salty it was inedbile and we threw it away. We've not been impressed by the fruit and veg either. Don't know why people rate it.

DotBall · 14/10/2021 09:58

One thing I love about our local Morrisons is that it does fabulous Meat and Potato pies on the deli - takes me back to my childhood in the north west even though we live 250 miles away now.

Blackmagicqueen · 14/10/2021 10:11

Not sure when you last had one Dot but they are very much potato pies now with the meat nowhere to be found.

takingmytimeonmyride · 14/10/2021 10:17

Damn I love Morrisons! But they opened here and then closed a few years later.

I used to have a loom through their yellow label stuff, always good bargains to be had. They used to sell of the cooked pasta from the salad counter in massive bags for 10p so I'd buy it and make tuna pasta salad.

Their fresh fruit and veg was always good too, and their meat.

Why did they leave? Why? 😩

SentDeliveredRead · 14/10/2021 10:18

Nooooooooo, I don't want to hear bad things about Morrisons, make it stop Grin

Blackmagicqueen · 14/10/2021 10:19

Wink beware of the bread-y icing sugar covered doughnuts @SentDeliveredRead

Maskless · 14/10/2021 10:26

Ginger and mango Wensleydale!

About a month ago and tbh I quite like the mostly potato pie. Takes me right back to the ‘Catholic pies’ of my youth 😋 (Catholic pies are Butter pies, meatless so Catholics could eat them on Fridays).

Blackmagicqueen · 14/10/2021 11:13

Morrisons need to rebrand them to potato pies.
