What's good from Morrisons?

I've recently moved house and am now in the delivery area for Morrisons (as well as the other major supermarkets). Am thinking of giving Morrisons a go for food shopping as I've not shopped there before and fancy a change. What's particularly good/bad to get?

It will be delivery only as the actual store is quite a long way away so I doubt I'll visit in person.

The Butchers and Fishmongers are great.
Unusual cuts of meat.
I also love the extra special brand pizzas.

Onemorebaby · 08/10/2021 20:44

Don't know if you can have it on delivery, but you can make your own salad. So good! Also their fresh pizzas and fresh desserts. Their deli is amazing too. Sainsbury's is tiny and last I saw tesco didn't have one. Fewer ready meals but more deli and bakery instead. Ours has a proper florist there now

GatoradeMeBitch · 08/10/2021 20:55

Salt and pepper baps
Chicken pakoras
White chocolate milk
White choc and hazelnut spread

Their burgers with bone marrow were great, but as with a few of my other faves seem to have disappeared since Covid/Brexit started to make things difficult. The pretty green cream cake has gone too.

Morrisons own shortbread, best I’ve had, a bargain at 49p!
Morrisons Market Street Deli Habanero Chilli Jam (great on pizzas & cheese toasties)
All their pickles & chutneys are delicious
Morrisons fish fingers
Morrisons The Best Somerset Crunch Cheddar
Morrisons Caramel Rice Cakes (tastes like toffee popcorn)
Morrisons The Best Matured Scotch Beef Mince 12% Fat (best mince I’ve had, better than Waitrose, Marks etc)
Morrisons Jaffa cakes
Morrisons The Best Toffee & Pecan Roulade
Morrisons The Best Prosecco
Morrisons Savers tortillas
I could be here all day

GatoradeMeBitch · 08/10/2021 21:04

The Brittany butter (black wrapper I think) with seasalt

cannaethink · 08/10/2021 21:10

I like their fruit. Punnets of grapes, raspberries, strawberries etc two for £3. Other than that though I find it expensive compared to Tesco, and not as good.
Nice olives with garlic and basil actually… Tesco olives are a bit rubbish.

Chipsahoy · 08/10/2021 21:19

Their cheese straws. Amazing.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 08/10/2021 21:59

I have family that work at Morrisons so don't use their other discount offers as get staff discount but, (and I think this is still being run) if you are NHS, a teacher, emergency services or student etc you can get 10% off, you just need to set up your More card or show your ID at the till. 10% off shopping makes a big difference over a year.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 08/10/2021 22:00

@Chipsahoy oh and their round cheese crumble things.

TurnUpTurnip · 08/10/2021 22:01

I’ve never actually ordered from them but they have the best bakery imo out of all the supermarkets

GatoradeMeBitch · 08/10/2021 22:09

For delivery by the way, expect a few things to be unavailable each shop. Morrisons didn't have the most reliable delivery chain even before Covid/Brexit/petrol shortage.

ApplesinmyPocket · 08/10/2021 22:20

For bread bakers - Morrisons is the only supermarket I know which has fresh yeast in my local store, which I think is way way better than dried for breadmaking. Can't get it in an online shop though for some reason.

As a PP said, I think the Bakery is best of all the supermarkets. Their cream cakes are amazingly good. I like the palmiers best, but they are all nice.

I've not had good experiences with Morrisons Christmas Food to Order, it's been very disorganised IME, Tesco/Waitrose/M&S have been better.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 08/10/2021 22:21

Their bakery steak pies are the stuff of midweek meal glory.

I like their butcher too, as it’s an actual butcher.

ISeeTheLight · 08/10/2021 22:26

Their bread. "The best" sourdough is AMAZING. Their baguettes, buns etc are also very good.

Great quality meat for the price. Steak in particular is brilliant. Much better than asda, tesco etc. I also find their fresh fruit and veg decent- better than our local sainsburys. Deli counter does lovely ham. Fishmongers also good.

Anything fresh really. Amazon groceries (the 2 hour delivery thing) is Morrisons I believe.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 08/10/2021 22:31

Always disappointed in most things I’ve bought

Lookingoutside · 08/10/2021 22:31

Tiger bread! With anything from the cheese counter.

If you do ever visit a store, a full English breakfast in the cafe is a must.

GameofPhones · 08/10/2021 22:38

salt and pepper bread
German sausages
their own-made pizzas

ISpyCobraKai · 08/10/2021 23:07

I've just remembered, the rosemary breadsticks.

YourWinter · 08/10/2021 23:18

Echoing what others have said, the meat, fish and bakery and deli are excellent, great range. Their lamb and beef are really good, and great value, I work in a different supermarket and even with staff discount I can't afford it there - I get most of my shopping in Morrison's.

The Lake District cheddar and Wensleydale with ginger are my favourite cheeses, especially with their sea salt and black pepper scalloped crackers. Salt and pepper bread is really lovely. All the pies and pastries are brilliant. Banana and coconut muesli. Wonky fruit and veg are great, but their soft fruit can be disappointing if not eaten the day it's bought. I like that most of their sugar is by Silver Spoon, British sugar rather than imported. Their organic eggs are very good. And their yellow sticker reductions are incredible!

EvenRosesHaveThorns · 08/10/2021 23:37

Bakery vegan sausage rolls. Crunchy ranch salad

BlackeyedSusan · 08/10/2021 23:40

their prices have gone up massively but they are reliable. I have had some substitutes recently, and some missing items but most things are available.(eg this week: one sub, one unavailable. )

ISaidDontLickTheBin · 09/10/2021 05:50

Thanks all, sounds like it's worth a go - we're pretty carnivorous as a household so interested that so many pp recommended the meat.

We've been mostly using Asda and have had loads of missing items and subs each shop, so tbh the bar is currently set fairly low for Morrisons to be better!

All the bakery stuff and their chilli jam

sandgrown · 09/10/2021 06:14

The egg custard tarts are very good. Hummus. Fresh fish. Spicy prawns from the fish counter . Some of the wines are excellent. The bacon sandwiches in the cafe if you ever visit . The yellow sticker reductions are very good .

peridito · 09/10/2021 08:19

And how about these socially minded initiatives

Customers in need can now go to any Morrisons customer service desk nationwide and ask for a package for ‘Sandy’ or a ‘period product pack’. The customers will then be given a free discreet envelope with sanitary products and no questions asked

www.morrisons-corporate.com/media-centre/corporate-news/package-for-sandy---morrisons-local-initiative-goes-nationwide-to-tackle-period-poverty/

www.morrisons-corporate.com/media-centre/corporate-news/morrisons-launches-family-recipe-box-for-just-30-including-delivery/

which make me want to give my money to this supermarket as opposed to others .

Wonder if things will stay the same now it's been sold and is no longer family owned ?
