What's good from Morrisons?

I've recently moved house and am now in the delivery area for Morrisons (as well as the other major supermarkets). Am thinking of giving Morrisons a go for food shopping as I've not shopped there before and fancy a change. What's particularly good/bad to get?

It will be delivery only as the actual store is quite a long way away so I doubt I'll visit in person.

I love Morrisons - proper treat going there instead of Tesco but it is bit of a trot!
Love their chicken en croute.

DotBall · 09/10/2021 08:21

Meat and Bakery.
However, in our area they are the worst for crap substitutions.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 09/10/2021 08:57

@DotBall my mum ordered 10 individual oranges, they didn't have any so substituted for 10 bags of 5 oranges, so she ended up with 50! Entirely ridiculous, why wouldn't you do 2 bags of 5?????

whattodo2019 · 09/10/2021 09:18

OMG just reading all these heavily processed foods is horrific!!! Please don't buy these ready made pies, pastries, cakes etc they are soooooo bad for you

theThreeofWeevils · 09/10/2021 09:22

Oh shut up and eat your celery, dear.

Cazziebo · 09/10/2021 09:38

Best fish counter of any supermarket. Popcorn is exactly like the cinema. Good range of fruit and veg. Cakes are good - like a real bakers rather than a supermarket. They do excellent end of day reductions.

Ours is so chaotic though it's not a pleasant place to shop.

Oh give over, don't be so bloody righteous No one is suggesting they buy and eat them all in one session, although... 🤔😀 I'm slightly jealous that you live near a Morrisons OP

maskface212 · 09/10/2021 10:56

I get my regular deliveries from Morrisons and think they are the best supermarket near me.

Their own brand chocolate is only 60p and if better than Cadburys
Their own brand choc biscuit bars are as well
They also do really nice own brand mini cheddars

They do something called 'wonky veg' where you can get fruit and veg that is not quite perfects quite cheaply. They do grapes, avocado, strawberries for around a pound. Avocado are four in a net and that is £2

They get mixed reviews but I really like them.

TheCategoryIs · 09/10/2021 10:57

Reduced fat peanut butter (never seen it anywhere else)
Tex Mex veggie burgers
Honey greek style yoghurt
Their fridge flatbreads are nice, also their the best/finest quiches

lemonyfox · 09/10/2021 10:57

They do something called a pakora dip in their little deli section, it's a spicy minty tomatoey dip and it's absolutely divine. I always buy it and put it on wraps etc.

Jojoanna · 09/10/2021 11:00

Their meat is very good

maskface212 · 09/10/2021 11:02

They also do delivery voucher which is £30 a year and free delivery Tues-Thurs - it may be more now, I'm not sure.

I like them because their drivers are polite and helpful and they are often on time. Only been late twice in the 5 years I've been using them. They also sometimes add little gingerbread men for free to say thanks.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 09/10/2021 11:02

@peridito my local one also have it's for the food bank already bagged up at the entrance with the price on the front, so you just pick it up, pay for it at the till and leave it at the shelving unit. They work closely with the food bank so they get exactly what they need and bags start at £0.50 up to £10 depending on how much you want to donate.

OldTinHat · 09/10/2021 11:04

Their rhubarb trifle...better than the best sex you've ever had!

Frostine · 09/10/2021 11:04

Yes another saying try their Salt & Pepper uncut loaves . Also we like the Comte cheese , the two together ❤❤❤

Eliphanbee · 09/10/2021 11:04

the doughnuts are amazing!

Sorry, Mango are four in a net and are £2. Avocado are six or more and are £2.50

Morrison's do a massive bag of apples which is very good value if you have kids that get through a lot. Their pitta breads are nicer than any other supermarket- fluffy like the ones you get abroad rather than like stale cardboard that rips when you try to fill them that they seem to be elsewhere. The olives with chilli and cheese, their dips such as humours and tzatziki are nicer than other supermarkets too. Absolutely everything from the deli counter but especially the mini pie tray, the chicken curry ones especially are lovely.

IcedCoffeeAlways · 09/10/2021 11:15

@ISaidDontLickTheBin I don’t know that you can get them online but they do individual rolls etc at 6 for £1.50 or something like that. The Beetroot, Raisin and Rosemary ones are unreal 😍 also, the Date and Walnut Cob 👍🏻
At Christmas they sell sausage meat stuffing with cranberry - it makes excellent sausage rolls 👍🏻

@whattodo2019 Calm down 🤣 it’s some pies and cakes 🙄 nobody is recommending hard drugs 😅 personally, I love a bit of heavily processed crap 👍🏻🤣

@HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime Thats a classic 🤣🤣 I’d love to know who on earth does these substitutions! My question though - did she accept the 50 oranges? 😅 and if so, what on earth did she do with them?!

I've found Morrisons pretty good and they have some local produce, cheese for example. Ethically, they have always seemed to be ahead, but who knows whether that will now change.

The soft fruit in our local store was great (not in the UK at the moment) especially the strawberries, which were far better than our local M &S. Bread and cakes all good too.
