We got married in secret too due to other reasons. Told the family a year later. It was such a nice and non-stressful day.

Only MIL disagreed, the rest was happy for us (it helped that marrying in secret is a bit of a tradition in my family)

I'm posting partly in curiosity as I've always wondered how that would work, getting an officiant to lie, and then dealing with family wanting to sign the witness form.

They may not be, you know. We got married with two witnesses because neither of us had the time, will or patience to organise something big, and we only told family several years later, by which time it was far too old a story for anyone to get exercised about.
