So have tv to myself. Have seen all the usual romantic, chick flicky type fims but what's your hidden gem

Not hidden because it's an oscar winning classic but you may have to buy it if you haven't seen it as its not often broadcast these days.

All About Eve - Bette Davis at her finest. It's the film which features the immortal line
FASTEN YOUR SEAT BELTS ITS GOING TO BE A BUMPY NIGHT

The Dish

Return to me with David Duchovny and Minnie Driver.

Blow Dry with Alan Rickman.

Great thread, will definitely check out some of the films mentioned.

What kind of mood are you in? Lots of great films out there! Peanut butter Falcon is a lovely ‘food for the soul’ kind of film, Three billboards outside Ebbing Missouri is brilliant, as is Parasite if you’re ok with subtitles (absolutely not what I was expecting!).

But then I’d also recommend Lost Boys, Rocketman, Blades of Glory….

@colouringindoors

Hunt for the Wilderpeople 😊
I love this too.
Disfordarkchocolate · 03/10/2021 19:01

I love The Family Stone with Sarah Jessica Parker.

You have four of my favourites here, so I am going to absolutely watch the other two you mention (Parasite and Rocketman) that could also be my favourites, I just don't know it yet!
SummerHouse · 03/10/2021 19:04

Just googled parasite, I have seen it. It's a masterpiece. I must take better notice of film titles.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 03/10/2021 19:05

Hunt for the Wilder People is just wonderful.

Years ago I saw a film called Love And Other Catastrophes, which I loved. I need to rewatch it to see if its as good as I remember.

I’m a cyborg but that’s ok

Drop Dead Gorgeous - hilarious mockumentary on beauty pageants in small town America.

Best in Show - another v funny mockumentary, set behind the scenes at a Crufts style dog show

The Family Man - cheesy but heartwarming Christmas film with Nichola Cage

RedRiverShore · 03/10/2021 19:10

As PP said upthread, Life Itself, direct by Dan Fogelman who did This is Us

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 03/10/2021 19:12

I thought The Dig was underwhelming. They didn't really show the scale of the treasures uncovered or give a whole lot of context about what it was and how it got there.

BreadmanAndCake · 03/10/2021 19:12

Pride is one of my all time favourites, brilliant movie and it's on prime at the moment.
Also Sunshine on Leith. Real feel good movie.

Needhelp101 · 03/10/2021 19:15

Two Hands. Cracking Aussie thriller with a great cast (including Heath Ledger and Rose Byrne).

Pitch Black. Perfect little B movie with a very tasty Vin Diesel (also filmed in Australia).

How to be Single.

tunainatin · 03/10/2021 19:15

Alabama moon, watched it with the kids and cried!

Rabbit proof fence. A true story about an era in australia where aboriginal girls with white fathers (sadly often through rape) were taken from their full blood aboriginal mothers and forced to live in Christian camps. One inspiring young girl worked out she could follow a fence which kept rabbits out back to her family. We are not talking about a small fence - you can fit 26 englands into this part of Australia. She took her two younger siblings with her and it took them about a month to walk back to their mother - they lived off the land in the meantime and hid from authorities looking for them. These three woman were still alive when the film was made so there is a nice interview at the end with them.
