One of my all time favourite films is Brief Encounter.

@Adamine

One of my all time favourite films is Brief Encounter.
Brilliant film. Also My Left Foot.
Adamine · 03/10/2021 20:10

My Beautiful Laundrette is a brilliant film as is My Left Foot.

CatNamedEaster · 03/10/2021 20:10

@Xiaoxiong love The Castle! I saw it when I went travelling to Oz and I still (mis)quote it 20 years later. Every time DH or DS come home with a piece of plastic tat I do my best/worst accent: "Dad could never understand how we got it so cheap" or if it's something I actually approve of it's "that's going straight to the pool room." They don't even know the film but i still do it.Grin

My Old Lady is a lovely film. Maggie Smith is a tenant in a Paris apartment inherited by a young man.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 03/10/2021 20:10

Hidden Figures - based on a true story about women at NASA.
Keeping Mum - British comedy with Maggie Smith, Rowan Atkinson & Kristen Scott Thomas
Rocketeer - boys own fantasy film with Timothy Dalton

Where do we go now

StorminaBcup · 03/10/2021 20:11

@summerhouse you might also Jojo Rabbit if you haven’t already seen it. Great film, funny but very dark. And I’d also recommend Sound of Metal and Nomadland (Frances McDormand again if you like her).

Adamine · 03/10/2021 20:11

Cry Freedom
A World Apart
Shadowlands

Clawdy · 03/10/2021 20:12

Cinema Paradiso
Fishermans Friends

Vicliz24 · 03/10/2021 20:13

Top Secret is fabulously funny . Truly Madly Deeply . A Walk on the Moon . Life is Beautiful ( as long as you can bear war stories)

Ekofisk · 03/10/2021 20:17

This Is Spinal Tap - but you do have to turn it up to eleven.

Kind Hearts and Coronets for a bit of nostalgia (and Alec Guinness playing most of the parts).

gelert5619 · 03/10/2021 20:17

Spring in Park Lane
A 40's film with Michael Wilding and Anna Neagle
Cannot watch it too many times!
Black Christmas
A horror from 80's with Olivia Hussey about an american campus and the girls in the house get strange phone calls..... girls leave to go home for Christmas but do they leave.... Watched it recently and still spooked me. I don't smoke but smoked 4 of my flatmates cigarettes when I first saw it at the cinema.

heymammy · 03/10/2021 20:18

Paper Planes
Hidden Figures (not really hidden but a gem all the same)

emlouwat · 03/10/2021 20:19

Hillbilly elegy

Needhelp101 · 03/10/2021 20:20

Pride is absolutely wonderful. One of my favourite films!

cheesegloriouscheeseyum · 03/10/2021 20:22

All the Christopher Guest films are excellent.
Secrets and Lies is great.
What We Do In The Shadows - I adore the TV series and the film it's based on is utterly brilliant.
Somebody has mentioned Locke, fab film.

Orphlids · 03/10/2021 20:22

Great thread.

Headhunters,
Heavenly Creatures,
Bitter Moon (a bit crap I think, but I just love it!),
Untamed Heart.

Level75 · 03/10/2021 20:26

Wild Tales: m.imdb.com/title/tt3011894/
It's fun, cathartic and totally crazy.

BigcatLittlecat · 03/10/2021 20:26

@WithLargeTableMouse

Shag. It’s not the English meaning of shag, it’s an 80s coming of age dance movie along the lines of Greece. I love it 😍
I saw this at the cinema! It was a 15 and I was underage!
user1471464702 · 03/10/2021 20:26

Lars and the real girl

Sherrystrull · 03/10/2021 20:27

@Lesina

Fried Green Tomatoes At The Whistlestop Cafe. Wonderful
Have u read the book? It's even better than the film!
Maharajah20 · 03/10/2021 20:27

@Watto1

The Commitments. My favourite ever film! And if you can find the sequels (The Snapper and The Van), they are fab too.
Brilliant films! 😍
StorminaBcup · 03/10/2021 20:30

“ Hillbilly elegy” loved this too, Glen Close was fantastic!

Great thread OP.

WinniePig · 03/10/2021 20:30

Hors de Prix (Priceless) - brilliant French romantic comedy starring Audrey Tatou. She wears the most beautiful clothes 😍
