I’ve had some pretty nasty migraines & my c section recovery wasn’t the nicest.

What’s the worst pain you’ve ever been in and how long did it last?

Appendicitis. I’ve had 3 csections and have always found recovery bearable but my god, appendicitis was horrendous!

Dontcallmejacqui · 03/10/2021 04:52
@Alpenguin I have the same and have found the curable app a godsend.. I don't work for them.

In my case worse pain endometriosis flares..it feels like someone has filled your insides with barbed wire and poured in some battery acid for good measure.. the wire tightens and pulls and the acid works through your bladder and you pelvic area.. add in a few days of lightning crotch and being ignored by most medical professionals and it's not something I'd wish on my worse enemy.

Saying all of the above my mum suffered with endometriosis her whole life and told me gall stones were the worse.
Brilliant description of endometriosis, especially with the added aggravation of the medics' apathy

Burst gangrenous appendix

Nothing compares not a migraine not my Tina have opening up after 3 weeks after a c section - nothing compares to that

Childbirth. Feeling pretty lucky to say that reading these,.at least it ends.

Ectopic pregnancy. Collapsed on way home from work.

Forceps delivery without pain relief (I was begging for it) where I tore everything up, down and sideways.

makelovenotpetrol · 03/10/2021 07:29

I have arthritis and osteoporosis, so I'm pretty good with dealing with extreme pain.

Worst pain though - my son dying.

Whinginadeville · 03/10/2021 07:32

Childbirth but I think this thread is an interesting reminder of how powerful our bodies and mind are that we parcel up the pain and put it away.

MissSmiley · 03/10/2021 07:35

Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction

I've had gallstones, two sections, two natural deliveries with just gas and air and nothing comes close to SOD

So sorry about your son
vampirethriller · 03/10/2021 07:40

I had an infected broken tooth that turned into sepsis and osteomyelitis. That was much, much worse than the three days I spent in labour!

Canii · 03/10/2021 07:44

Dislocated my knee. Awful.
It was so painful I fainted.

barnanabas · 03/10/2021 07:46

@vampirethriller similar here!
Wisdom tooth abcess. I used to think people saying 'I'd rather give birth than...' was hyperbole, but I've had one completely drug-free labour and birth and one c-section and I would do either again any day of the week rather than have an infected tooth.

MisgenderedSwan · 03/10/2021 07:49

I had a cyst on my ovary - I thought I was dying. I was pale and could hardly breathe - thought I was going to be sick. Then it ruptured and I felt like I'd been shot. Very scary. The other time was when I tore a muscle in my back - couldn't stand up without seeing stars and passing out.

Rockbird · 03/10/2021 07:51

Tooth abscess. If someone handed me a gun I would have shot myself, I genuinely wanted to die. I live with constant excruciating lower back pain and have given birth to two children including a 10lber and nothing beats that abscess for pain.

cultkid · 03/10/2021 07:54

The pain of hydronephrosis when I was pregnant was so bad my face was vibrating

The pain of a c section with a GA and waking up in agony no spinal no nothing and being told I could have only paracetamol and ibuprofen afterwards. Pigs

trappedsincesundaymorn · 03/10/2021 07:56

An infection in my thumb nailbed, never known pain like it. The antibiotics didn't work and, due to having a reaction to codene and ibruprofen, I was only able to take paracetamol. I ended up having to have an operation to save the top of my thumb.

timtam23 · 03/10/2021 07:57

Post-partum sepsis that turned into peritonitis. Terrible pain.
Also I had an infected salivary gland some years ago and ended up looking as if I had mumps, a big swollen mass near my ear. It was incredibly painful to the extent that I couldn't lie down or sleep and I was crying in pain (GP, very annoyingly, thought I was being hysterical and told me I couldn't be in that much pain)

surlycurly · 03/10/2021 07:57

Sciatica for me. Have had lots of back problems and dislocations as I'm hyper mobile- all sore- but I had sciatica this summer and there was one day where I lay in the floor actually crying and moaning in pain so bad I thought I was going mad. It was utterly horrific. I have neuralgia too and even that doesn't compare to the sciatica. Genuinely horrific.

leavesthataregreen · 03/10/2021 07:58

either gallstones or torn ligament in my foot. Both were excruciating.

Flowers that must be the worst pain imaginable.
Kate3150 · 03/10/2021 08:00

Endometriosis….horrible horrible disease which really disrupted my life. Mine was stage 4, I had a lot removed and the difference it made to my quality of life has been incredible.

Kate3150 · 03/10/2021 08:01

@makelovenotpetrol- I’m so sorry for your loss 💜💜💜

HarebrightCedarmoon · 03/10/2021 08:02

I remember the stabbing pain all across my stomach from having an infected chicken pox spot that went septic as a kid to be far worse than childbirth. But there were 23 years in between so it's hard to weigh one against the other. Tooth pain from an abscess is up there as well.

Scoutingformygirls · 03/10/2021 08:02

Ectopic pregnancy - the most extraordinary pain where you know something is dreadfully, terribly wrong. The pain was beyond comprehension and the absolute certainty I would die was terrifying. I was lucky to receive good care but the memories of being on the floor unable to communicate how excruciating it all was will stay with me forever.

Corneal abrasion had me crying for a good few days and no one really cared!

I have given birth 3 times and not found it too bad at all. Could contemplate doing it again without too much worry.

The others I would be much more doubtful about my ability to cope.
