I’ve had some pretty nasty migraines & my c section recovery wasn’t the nicest.

What’s the worst pain you’ve ever been in and how long did it last?

Getting stung by an insect in Australia (I don't know what it was), but the pain started in my hand and ended up being my whole arm and half my chest, feeling like it was on fire, stabbed and crushed at the same time. They gave me morphine and that barely dented it and it took three days to fully fade. Two kids, natural births, epidural with the first (ok so didn't feel much with that one), gas and air with the second, that pain didn't come close to the sting.

MatildaIThink · 03/10/2021 10:28

Just asked my husband, it was a Jack Jumper Ant.

cricketmum84 · 03/10/2021 10:33

Meningitis was the worst pain in my entire life. I couldn't even lift my head. I was given morphine when I got to hospital and the relief was just heaven. It lasted 5 days but that first night at home when it first started was just awful.

And I have given birth twice with only gas and air. Labour pains didn't even compare to that.

Waking up a few days after a gall stone operation with something very very wrong.
I'm still not sure what exactly. Either bile left around in my body or a stray stone making its way to the liver.
Either way, it was horrific. I had no idea it was even possible to feel that bad.
It was slightly more manageable sitting up, so I spent 3 days bent over, clutching my stomach. I even slept like that!
At one point I needed a scan and they had to give intravenous morphine to get me to lie flat.
((Shudder))

All four wisdom teeth out at the same time. For about 3 days I stared at the tv like a zombie just waiting for the time I could take the next lot of painkillers. I could only take paracetamol and ibuprofen as I’m allergic to stuff like codeine.

BrushMySmush · 03/10/2021 10:53

Contractions at about 24 hours in and a kidney infection, I was passing blood and I was not in a good state.

felulageller · 03/10/2021 10:56

Corneal abrasion. I wanted to pull my eyeball out!

bridgeofslides · 03/10/2021 10:57

Root canal well the infection leading up to it.

Closely followed by crash sections and migraines ans sciatica. House?

Breastfeeding a newborn with tongue tie.

Every feed I'd cry ask to go back and do labour again rather than feed.

Made worse cos he seemed to feed forever and every gulp felt like knives. And of course I loved him but was desperate to rip him off me.

Lasted a few days and I went on to feed him until he was 2.

  1. frozen shoulder. The sickening pain lasted 2 weeks. Painful for 2 years.

  2. meningitis headache. A week.

  3. smashing my toe nail off. 2 weeks.

  4. 2 labours. 7 hours in total.

tickledtiger · 03/10/2021 11:04

C section recovery although having a newborn baby makes it bearable. Smile

StCharlotte · 03/10/2021 11:05

Shredded hamstring. Lasted weeks.

MojoJojo71 · 03/10/2021 11:06

Post op complications following a rectocele repair. I developed a haematoma and even loaded up on morphine I screamed bloody murder in the recovery room until the consultant took me back to theatre. Quite embarrassing as I work there and still can’t quite look that consultant in the eye.

ilovebagpuss · 03/10/2021 11:10

Quinsy when I was at Uni I tried self medicating drinking cheap Sherry but just threw it all up. Painkillers were not touching it and it went on for a few days until I got some antibiotics. Burst ear drum god that was a night of pain then it burst.
Labour and being stitched up with no anaesthetic not even a bit of local I felt every stab and pull through of the stitching line.
Not surprisingly the hospital was later outed for the worst maternity unit.

Knocking an arthritic joint (brief seconds of intense, insanity inducing pain)
Epileptic fit (tonic clonic)
Gallstones
Caesarian section when epidural didn’t work (they stopped very quick)
Chronic everyday pain - RA

Squaffle · 03/10/2021 11:34

Not in any order but:
-Childbirth
-Meningitis headache
-Ruptured appendix
-And I have a very special place in my heart for the post-lumbar puncture headache. Honestly one of the most awful experiences, like having your head crushed in a vice.

Imatwinmum · 03/10/2021 11:34

@ParkheadParadise

Heartbreak When my dd died the physical pain was real. My body ached. It's 6 years this month and a part of me is still in pain.💔💔 The pain of losing your child is the worst pain imaginable.
So sorry. I don’t think any pain could ever compare Flowers
SlamLikeAGuitar · 03/10/2021 11:38

Shattered my hip 8 years ago.
I wasn’t awake for long after the initial injury, so I don’t remember the pain of it. But when I woke up in hospital a couple of days later, fuck a duck Shock! On waking up, I was pretty swiftly lulled back to sleep with hardcore pain killers after some quick brain function checks. The recovery was disgusting pain-wise.
Definitely worse than childbirth.

Flufferty · 03/10/2021 11:40

Pancreatitis

catlovingdoctor · 03/10/2021 11:43

Having chest drains removed after open heart surgery. They just really stung as they left my body...none of the painkillers could touch it. Thankfully it only lasted a split second as they were taken out but nothing I've ever felt compares.

Mammyloveswine · 03/10/2021 11:46

Breast abscess.. much worse than labour!!

user1493494961 · 03/10/2021 11:50

Back pain spasms.

MumOfTwoChildren · 03/10/2021 11:52

Knee pain, I have a condition called Chrondomalacia patella, feels like growing pains, cramp and stitch all at the same time inside the knee joint. I've had 2 c-sections, multiple other surgeries, injections into my kneecaps, broken bones, stubbed toes, trapped fingers and stood on many of my sons lego blocks but nothing has been as bad.

The constant slow tearing during back to back 9lb childbirth, tearing my clitoris and spiral tear of my vagina with no pain killers (not allowed due to other medical issues). I went into shock, and was very poorly, unable to be moved from the delivery room for days, hallucinating and suffered from ptsd for years. Emotional pain from it was that it affected DS’ and my bond.

A hideous migraine had me collapsing in a&e and genuinely planning how kill myself rather than continue with the pain. I still feel scared at how the pain pushed me right to the edge of wanting to live or die.
